One of the primary efforts in the District this year will be the ‘Retention of Scouts through Advancement’. It is one thing to recruit a Scout but the most important aspect of Scouting is the training, skills and knowledge they gain from participating in the Scouting Program and that means Advancement. This year a special Merit Badge Fair is planned for November 22nd. This will give all Scouts an opportunity to earn 3 to 4 new badges and improve their total Scouting knowledge and advancement. Remember it will be very important to register early for the Merit Badges classes.

Also a Cub Fun Day is scheduled for September 20^th which not only will be fun for the Cubs but also will give them an a great opportunity for advancement through the Cub Scout program.

These are just a few of the many programs planned for this coming Fall and Spring 2003 - 2004. We have a full slate from leadership training, outdoor skill development, safety, Camporees, fund raising opportunities waiting for the District Packs and Troops to take advantage of in this upcoming year.

Most importantly a special Thanks to you the leaders of the Packs, Troops and Venturing Programs. With out your dedication and hard work none of this would be possible. I hope you have a feeling of satisfaction that comes from Helping the Youth of our country grow into the Leaders of the Future. Just remember, one of these young people will be a future President of the United States of America … and their feet will be firmly planted on the principles of Scouting… God and Country.
