Troop 541's Policy

Please save this newsletter for future reference since it covers most of our troop’s policies.

Troop Rooster

The troop rooster has been made available to all parents.  Please use it to get to know other parents, pass along information, and coordinate carpooling.  Keep in mind; if you should happen to miss a meeting, it will be your responsibility to call one of us to get any updates.  We do not want any girl to miss out on advancements.

Meetings

Help your daughter to remember meetings by having her wear her vest, uniform, or Brownie T-shirt on meeting days.  Not only will it give her a sense of pride, she will definitely be eager to join her troop.

Health Matters

If our daughter misses school due to illness, she should not be at meetings or events scheduled for the same day.

Fundraising

Brownie Girl Scout Troops are allowed to participate in a maximum of two fund-raisers per year, one of which must be the annual Cookie Sale.

Try-Its and Other Awards

Try-It badges encourage girls to try new things and learn about the world around them.  Girls complete four out of six activities in order to earn a badge.  Although most Try-Its are earned as a troop, your daughter is welcome to work on them independently and sometimes can be easily done as a family activity or through school/organized sport participation.  We highly recommend frequently referring to the requirements for each Try-It in the Brownie Handbook.

Discipline

Girl Scouts promise to follow the Girl Scout Law at all times:

I will do my best to be

Honest and fair,
Friendly and helpful,
Considerate and caring,
Courageous and strong, and
Responsible for what I say and do,
And to

Respect myself and others,
Respect authority,
Use resources wisely,
Make the world a better place, and
Be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girls are encouraged to resolve conflicts by themselves and to do so peaceably.  Time-outs are used only as a last resort for unacceptable behavior.  If a child continues to show aggressive behavior after an adult has try to calmly resolve the problem, then we must contact the parents to come pick the child up for their own emotional safety.  If the problem becomes chronic, especially if it disrupts meetings and/or upsets other children, we will contact you to discuss a solution.

Internet News

For those families with Internet access, Troop 541's web page is located at:

Brownie Troop 541 – www.oocities.org/troop541us/Brownies

Here, you will find a troop calendar, events, general troop information, and links to other Scouting sites.  The girls may add more features later.   I would like to see that happen .  Every effort has been made to conform to the Internet safety standards advocated by the GSUSA.  Girl and adult members’ last names, addresses and phone numbers will not be published on the Internet nor will they be provided to anyone other than troop parents or Girl Scout staff.
