The Troop 136 Totem
and Bead Program was instituted in 2000 and encompasses
Troop Camping and Activities as of 01 January 2000. The Program is intended to encourage
and recognize Scout participation in Troop and other Scouting programs.
The major emphasis is on overnight camping. Special recognitions for Scouts and
Scouters are part of the program to recognize special Scouting or other
achievements or acts.
The bead program is
based upon the "Scout Honor System" with some adult supervision. "A Scout is Trustworthy" is
the rule of the program.
Upon joining Troop
136, Scouts and Scouters receive a leather totem with "Boy Scout
Troop 136" embossed on it. Leather thongs are then attached
through holes and knotted. The belt slides through this leather totem
and is worn to the user's left or right side. Both Scouts and Scouters
may wear the beads. Beads may be awarded for Special Achievements,
Activities or Events; and are awarded for Major Camping Events and
Nights Camped.
