Chuck Prudham... the "Lite Guy" in 1998. He's
the one that, among many other things, hit the spotlights at just the right time to blind
the crowd during "the sun is shining, in this rainy city." {A Trooper show
wouldn't be the same without it.} He was with Trooper in '92 for the "Ten"
tour, and he came back in '98. Here is a very brief interview with him.
First, some basic tech stuff. How long does it normally take to do the
equipment?
{Chuck} "It takes
about three hours to set up, and one hour to tear down."
Who's the hardest band member to set up for?
{Chuck} "Smitty,
just because his gear has to be set up a certain way for his guitar sound."
How do crew members usually get hired?
{Chuck} "By word of
mouth, and friends."
If someone wanted to be a crew member, what would you
tell them?
{Chuck} "GO BACK TO
SCHOOL!!"
In a venue, people treat you different because they
know that you're a part of Trooper, the most accessible (and possibly bribe-able) way for
them to get to the band. Yet on a street, you're a regular guy. Do you ever want to
switch the two around?
{Chuck} "No.
Fame is a pain in the ass. However, I wouldn't mind switching wages."
What's the most outrageous thing that somebody's done
to bribe you?
{Chuck} "Offered me
fellatio." Whoa! *Censored* :-)
What's the most common lie you hear?
{Chuck} "'The
Guitarist said it was cool if I __________ (fill in the blank)."
What is the biggest thing you've learned about touring
with Trooper that you didn't expect or know before?
{Chuck} "The number
of fans out there."
Ra talks about people he gets to meet and opportunities
he gets to enjoy because of his celebrity staus. Who are some of the people you've
gotten to meet?
{Chuck} "Joe Clark,
April Wine, Pat Bentar, Harlequin, etc."
What other bands have you worked with?
{Chuck} "I have
worked for Darby Mills and the Unsung Heroes (3yrs), Patricia Conroy Band (1yr), Doug and
the Slugs (1yr), One Horse Blue (3.5 yrs), plus done lites for Econoline Crush,
Headstones, various Top 40 bands in Vancouver, etc."
He's been busy. As a free-lance Lite Tech, he
learned what he knows through on-the-job experience. And it looks like he's gotten
lots of it. Thanks, Chuck!
