Better known as a member of The Northern Pikes, Bryan Potvin enters
the world of solo artist, with his first solo debut release. Very smooth and very polished
Heartbreakthrough suffers only from it's lack of ability to really excite the listener.
Maybe it's just me, but missing is the playfulness that took the "Pikes" to some
of their greatest successes. Potvin does ably shows his abilities as a singer, songwriter,
guitarist providing an introvertive and moody approach to this predominantly pop release.
I can imagine what Potvin had in mind with this album and I think he probably succeeded. I
just feel he missed the mark ever so slightly. His arrangements are lush and show maturity
in their construction and Heartbreakthrough is solid, nice and polite. A good effort in
fact, but for me, I'd prefer a little more "Breakthrough" and a little less
"Heartbreak." |
