Who are "Thespians?"

Thespians are members of the International Thespian Society, and have dedicated themselves to producing outstanding theatre. Think of it as a more focused version of a "drama club." Actors, designers, directors, stage managers, set builders, playwrights, and publicists who have proven their commitment to theatre are welcome to join.

How do I join the Thespians?

It's easy! All you have to do is demonstrate your commitment to producing outstanding theatre. You can do this by meeting one of the following requirements :

* Contributing significantly to two productions at Wesley Chapel High School, by performing and/or working backstage and/or offstage.

* Completing two years of study in Drama class at Wesley Chapel High School with a final overall grade of at least a "B" each year.

* Completing one year of study in Drama class at any other school -and- completing one year of study in Drrama class at Wesley Chapel High School with a final overall grade of at least a "B" each year.

* Contributing significantly to one production at Wesley Chapel High School, by performing and/or working backstage and/or offstage -and- completing one year of study in Drama class at Wesley Chapel High School with a final overall grade of at least a "B."

What do Thespians do?

Well for starters, take a look at the Thespians Timeline on the wall in Room 229. It lists everything we've done so far, with pictures, programs, and newspaper articles since we were the tiny "Drama Club" in 1999. This year, you can count on Thespians:

* sponsoring a playwriting contest
* producing and performing the winning entry from the playwriting contest
* writing, producing, and performing an original play, "A Christmas Carol" on December 6 & 7, 2002
* entering District-level competitions, and putting our skills up against a field of 23 other schools at Central Florida Community College in Ocala
* producing and performing a spring play, "The Odd Couple" by Neil Simon on March 28 & 29, 2003
* putting our best acts in District competitions up against hundreds of the best Thespians in Florida from April 2-5 at the Tampa Convention Center
* sponsoring our annual fundraiser, The 3rd Annual Independent Film Festival on April 13, 2003

Interested?

Then get involved! Play auditions are always conspicuously posted in the school, and on the Drama room door, as well as being announced on the morning WCHS News. Even if you don't win a part, or if acting just isn't your thing, backstage and offstage workers are always needed. Watch and listen for postings, and check the whiteboard in Room 229 (the upper right section, in green marker) for upcoming events.

Meetings are held during school time. However, joining Thespians will require a significant amount of after-school time for producing plays and preparing for competitions.
