The Storm

By Caleb Warner

All is calm, unmoving and silent as death

Nature is one with the human world

Peace

Suddenly, a breeze picks up

Tiny drops of water start to trickle down

A fracture in the perfect silence

A haze grows in the heavens

Clouds gathering

The Wind grows stronger

The rain falls faster

The storm begins

A rumbling is heard in the distance

Soft, but ominous

The earth trembles at the very sound

The far-off thunder raises a cry

A cry to the firmament

Rent the skies!

Open the floodgates of heaven!

Send the rain crashing down!

Hear the thunder

See the lightning

Feel the Wind

Let loose the raging gale in all her fury

Break bough and branch

The air is torn with the water

Great sheets of hail are descending on the mud

All are kept inside

Away from the storm

In safety and peace

But through all the noise

One solitary figure

Is dancing in the rain

And rejoicing for the thunder

She is singing

Singing a song of a world

Without rain

It is a dissonant chord

In the frantic melody of the tempest

A happy tune

Of a better day

The anger of the downpour seems to falter

The roaring dies down

The lightning ceases

The clouds dry up and float away

On to distant lands

To bless them

Or to curse them

With a storm
