New stuff with the Scout.
Again, it seems last summer was the last time this was updated. The noise I mentioned was a bad camshaft. It had a rounded off lobe, so at high speed, the lifter couldn't follow the lobe, and would smack down, hence an odd noise that was only present at high rpm.
My dad and I restoring a 1977 Scout II. This was a sport utility made by International Harvester from 1961 to 1980. It was the first sport utility except for the jeep.
It's really rusty. In fact the winshield frame was so bad that the wipers fell out. We've since replaced the frame with a restored metal frame. Eventually, though, that will get replaced by a fiberglass piece. In fact, everything but the roof is going to be replaced with fiberglass pieces.
Well, the top has been restored. We cut out the rust, and added metal and a little bondo to smooth it out. I must say, dad did a nice job. Then it got painted with a white DuPont Emeron paint. We don't recomend the Emeron unless you have a real paint booth. The overspray doesn't dry immediately, which results in everything getting a light coat of paint. It came off, but it's a pain.
The engine work is done. We installed an MSD ignition and a Mallory distributor. It also gota Holley fuel injection system, the Digital Pro-Jection unit. It's a 750 cfm throttle body style.
It also got a custom made exhaust system. It's a true dual exhaust. We added a set of Stan's hedders. Then we custom made the rest, using 2.5" tubing. It's also got dual 27 inch glasspacks. It sure sounds nice, even though I don't think all of our neighbors appreciate it. Unfortunatly, I think the fiberglass is burning out of one muffler, which means we'll have to replace it. We are seriously thinking about putting a pair of FlowMaster 2 chamber mufflers on it.
