![]() CRST, Oklahoma City, OK was a 48 state carrier of dry freight. It was a team operation, which means that there were two drivers to a truck. They had several terminals across the USA. I worked in the OK
City yard. I was living in Amarillo Texas at the time. |

Getting the
job After leaving TLC, I needed a job quick. I did not know a good company from a bad one at the time, so I took the first job I was offered. |
My Job Description
When I first started driving I was put
with a trainer. Then we were assigned a partner to drive with. We drove all over the
country and were gone for weeks at a time. The truck we were given to drive was a cab
over, and it had one bed in the back.
The Good Points
I would like to add a good point here,
but I can't...
The Bad Points
Too many bad thing too mention here. I
was making 9 cents per mile. It was a team opperation, with a truck with only one bed. We
layed over nearly every night. You had to unload all of your loads. They would only pay a
fraction of what the lumper wanted. Away from home for weeks at a time. Working 7 days a
week, with an average payckeck of $220. The list goes on and on...
Why I Stopped Working There.
My partner and I picked up this load
going to St. Paul MN. It was Ramon Noodles, stacked to the roof from front to back. The
trailer was wall to wall noodles, thousands of boxes stacked on the floor. Dozens of
different sizes and flavors. We had to deliver this load to two different warehouses, for
the same company, on the same block.
We called our disbatcher and told him that we would need a lumper to unload this load for us. He gave us authorization to pay $45. The lumper wanted over $200. Our boss told us we could pay the difference out of our pockets or unload it ourselves.
We unloaded the trailer ourselves and we were done the next day. It took two days for us to unload that trailer and we split the $45.... When we got back to OK City, I cleaned out the truck and went home and found another job. They called me after a couple days and asked if I was coming back to work... They were shocked that I told them no.
