Getting the
job After leaving WestWay I moved back to Fresno and went looking for a job that would get me home more often. Getting into regional work was just the ticket. |
My Job Description
I would have to drive my personal car
to the yard in Modesto (90 miles) and get into my assigned truck and go to either Modesto
or Woodland to the Proctor & Gamble Distribution Facilities and hook to a loaded
trailer. Then head up to the Northwest and deliver the load to multiple customers. I may
have 10 stops on one load. Every load was different. One load may start in Portland and
end in Seattle. One may start in Pasco and end in Spokane. We also went all over Idaho,
Utah, and sometimes into Montana. We would load whatever the boss could find coming back
to Modesto, usually paper products. (Tissue paper, diapers, napkins, rolled paper, etc...)
The Good Points
I drove the same truck every week, by
myself. I was paid by the hub. Home every week. Good benefits.
The Bad Points
I drove a cab over. The frieght was
always on the floor and I had to unload it every time. No lumpers. Most stops, the stuff
had to be separated. Even if the stuff is the exactly the same the customer may want some
of them on one pallet and some on another pallet. That means, it was a lot of work to
unload.
Why I Stopped Working There.
The only reason I left this job was to start a new life
outside of California. My wife and I, with my inlaws, wanted to move out of California and
live a slower and cheaper lifestyle in the Midwest.
