Getting the job
While I was still working at Werner a was talking to Brent Redmond Transportation Inc. (BRT) At the time they had a small yard in Fresno and they had an add in the Fresno Bee. I went down there and talked to them about a job. They said that they only ran on the West Coast and they did pay well.

My Job Description
This company hauled mostly produce, from packing houses to the customer. There were allot of pick ups and drops involved. Up until now, almost all loads  picked up in one place and deliver in another. Now this was different, there would be several pick ups or several drops or both. It may take 15 or more hours to load and then drive all night to get to the the first customer then start unloading. It may take 12 or more hours to unload. All without sleep. You were not allowed to stop for sleep, until the load was completely delivered, and your trailer was empty.

Sometimes you would get a run that had one pick up and one delivery, then you could get a little sleep. Ice cream loads out of Union City loaded around 1pm. You had an appointment in Seattle for 5am the next morning. That is about 16 hours to drive 800 miles. You could sleep when you are empty.

The Good Points
I did make good money, the health benefits were good. The ladies in the office were very nice. They did, and still do have nice trucks and trailers.

The Bad Points
Getting a day off was like pulling teeth. You worked 7 days a week and had to ask for a day off. I couldn't get home. Even if my route took me right through Fresno, there wasn't enough time to stop. The customer was waiting for their product. You can not stop with produce, they want it quicker than you can get it there.

Why I Stopped Working There.
I got tired of not sleeping and asking for days off. I was treated like a piece of equipment not a person. Basically, I felt like the freight was more important than the driver. I gave notice and left on good terms.
