1. alligator, - a piece of tire in road.
2. alligator radio/station,- a radio that can transmit well, but has poor receive
3. aardvark,- a big rig with a long nose
4. back door,.-  behind you or to the rear
5. back out, - I have finished talking and will now unkey.
6. back quiet, -   I have finished my transmission and you may proceed when ready
7. bear, -  generic term for a law enforcement officer
8. - full blown bear, - state trooper
9. - countie mountie, - sheriff's deputy
10. - city kitty,-  city police
11. - diesel cop - D.O.T. man, D.M.V. enforcement
12. better half, -  your spouse, ie. your wife.
13. big road -  a major highway
14. big truck, -  an 18 wheeler.
15. bird dog, -.  a radar detector
16. bobtail,-  a cab with no trailer attached.
17. brake check, -  traffic that is slowing down.
18. break, -  proper way to gain access to a busy channel
19. boss man,-  your immediate superior/supervisor at work
20. bubba, -  a not-so-formal version of good neighbor
21. bull city, -  Durham, NC
22. capital city, -  Raleigh, NC
23. channel 9, -  "emergency channel"
24. channel 19,-.  the unofficially official "truckers" channel.
25. chicken coop, -  weigh stations
26. container, -  what you call a "regular" 18 wheeler
27. come on, back to you only -  go ahead and transmit
28. cottonpicker, -  a male bonding term for a friend of yours
29. dead head, -  to haul an empty truck.  or Driving empty means you usually are not getting
 paid for the trip, you have to drive somewhere to get a load.
30. diesel car, -  a "real" truck
31. do what?, -  I did not copy/understand your last transmission, could you please repeat it ?
32. double nickel, -.  means 55,
33. driver, -  refers to the person you were talking to
34. eighty fifth street, -  refers to I85
35. fire in the wire, - this means an amplified AM transmission see note 1 bottom of page
36. flip flop, -  a U-turn  or Can also mean the return trip
37. FM,-  am/fm radio
38. foot warmer,-  refers to a linear
39. forty two,-  I understand and agree with you.
40. *four wheeler,-.  anyone who is not a trucker specifically - a car
41. front door,-  in front of you or to the front
42. gold city, -  Goldsboro, NC
43. *good buddy- it now means homosexual  DO NOT USE EVER TO ANOTHER MALE!!!!!!!
44. good neighbor, -  same as driver the person you are talking with
45. hammer lane, -  left lane of traffic
46. hammer down, -  vehicle moving fast
47. han, -   same as driver.
48. handle, -  your name on the CB radio
49. happy happy, -  means happy new year
50. home twenty, -  dwelling. In particular, the person talking's house, appartment, condo, etc.
51. key down,-  when you try to talk over someone that is transmitting.
52. landline,-  Telephone/ telephone call.
53. linear,-  a linear amplifier.
54. local/local information, n,  call for local information (" break for some local information ").
55. log book,-  it's a diary for truckers/one of the things they check at the chicken coops
56. meatwagon,-  name for an ambulance.
57. merry merry, -  means merry Christmas
58. modulator,-  a type of amplifier used for AM transmissions.
59. momma, -  refers to a driver's wife also known as  better half.
60. moving on, -  means you have quit jabbin' and are now driving
61. mud duck, -  a really weak/poor radio signal
62. ninety fifth street,-  I95
63. nodamene?, -  do you understand what I am saying?
64. no doubt, - truck that is used to transport several cars "piggy back"
65. pickemup truck, -  a pick up truck
66. picklestopor commanly known as  picklepark, -  Rest Area
67. plain wrapper,-  term for an unmarked police car.

69. queen city, -  Charlotte, NC
70. radio, -  a CB,
71. radio check, -  a call to see if your radio is working
72. rascal, -  term identifying a person that is known by the speaker
73. REACT, -  nation wide group of volunteers who monitor channel 9 for emergency traffic
74. readin' the mail,-  just listening to the CB
75. right?, what truckers end almost every sentence with or commanly used."ROGER"
76. roger, -.  means "yes" or "OK"
77. rolling on,-  same as steppin' on
78. sand bagging ,-  to listen in on a channel without talking
79. seat cover, -  name for a seat or more specifically, someone who is sitting in the seat
80. shoot you in the back/tail pipe/gastank, -  police operating radar as you drive past them
81. short short, - a short amount of time
82. side piece,-.  also refers to a linear amplifier
83. skip, -.  CB tend to be reflected from the atmosphere.
84. speed limit, -.  what a four wheeler is constantly unaware of traffic
85. stand on it, -  accelerate with a quickness
86. stepping on, -  means same as moving on, or rolling on
87. sugar, -   means " it's always a pleasure talking with you ma'am "
88. taking pictures, -  police operating a radar gun
89. ten-four, -.  means "OK"/ "YES"
90. ten-twenty, -.  location
91. ten-thirty three, -.  emergency
92. ten-thirty six, -  call for correct time
93. turkey day, -  thanksgiving
94. turn signal, -   a light on the back of a vehicle which indicates future direction of movement.
95. walked on ya, -  someone keyed up with you and your transmission was unintelligible
96. whachyathank?, -  similar to right?
97. yard, -  name for the parking lot of a driver's company
98. yardstick, -  name for mile marker on major highways
99. YEOOWW BAAABY! -  When a woman is THAT good looking, you will hear this phrase
100. yonder, -  a specific direction indicated by the speaker

101. how about ya _______ bound? where are all the (police/bears/speed cops) at? (substitute
 NORTH, SOUTH, EAST,WEST in the blank. Keep track of the way you are headed so you can ask the drivers headed in the opposite direction)
102. how's it looking over your shoulder there ______ bound?  EAST, WEST, NORTH, SOUTH
103. how about some local [information] on__________?
104. driver, you have yourself a big weekend right?
105. han, you have yourself a safe one there right?
106. I heard that idea!,- the term forty-two means roughly the same thing
107. "What is your 10-20?")
108. yer comin' in loud n' proud, OR wall to wall and treetop tall! ( your radio has plenty of modulation,  the carrier signal is good,and the readability is excellent. Don't change a thing)
109. someone walked/stepped on ya' there han/good neighbor, try it again. (an idiot who doesn't know when to talk and when to shut up is trying to key up and talk over you)
110. my bird dog is barkin at a really big bird. ( my radar detector picked up a very strong signal, most  likely a police radar)
111. You should have put another nickel in the meter! (when the person you are following makes the traffic light, and you don't, you tell them they should have "put money in the meter" to keep the green light going, because it changed to red whenthe "time on the meter" expired.)

113. Note 1: many CB operators amplify their radios with various devices. None of these are legal in any form for the Citizens Band (FCC Part 95, subpart D, rules 10 and 11)  The purpose of these amplifiers is to strengthen the output signal. The problem is that they are literally made in people's garages...so they generally have poor audio characteristics, and can cause increased interference in telephones, televisions, and radios, answering machines, etc.

114. Note 2: radio frequencies below 50Mhz are reflected off of the atmosphere instead of   travelling on into space like higher wavelengths. This signal bounce, or skip as it is referred to, allows signals  to travel many miles! This is why you will suddenly start hearing foreign speech on the radio, or  people claiming to be from states that are 1000 miles away! The skip is more pronounced during  periods of increased atmospheric ionization, such as increased solar activity, sun spot cycles, and seasonal changes (more heavy in the summer than the winter).
