Letter
To the President 2001
Sat, 09 Jun 2001
Dear Mr President Bush,
I know you do not care nor want to hear the plain truth, but we as trucking families are not making a living due to the high cost of fuel.
There are families loosing their homes and their lively hoods due to supporting the OPEC nations with out any return from those nations. What you people should do and I have said this many times to you people up in Washington, but you jack butts are not listening is cut off any and all money clothing and food to those nations and we will see the shipment of fuel and more fuel being produced. Many people in the nation agree with me and I can send you letters as such….
We as a nation have voted your butts into office to represent us and we can certainly vote you out of office for you also are ripping off our nation by not listening to the us citizens of the USA as it states in the us constitution
"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of
liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."If this is not true then why have the constitution...
We people of the United states make up the nation.. We pay our taxes for you to do a job for us. You basically are our employees now start acting like you represent us and our nation AND LISTEN TO US.
Now I am asking you for many families can not afford to feed their families whom are trying to make an honest mans living out there.. OR WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THEM ON WELFARE…..
Please lower the fuel prices, cut off any and all help to OPEC then we will see a major difference in the fuel economy & start finding our own fuel resources so we all can live as well.
Remember this….
WITH OUT TRUCKS AMERICA STOPS..........
I recently wrote this to the Atlanta constitution and am sending this letter to the other parts of the nation in newspapers etc.I wish for you to also read this same letter that i have written in hopes that you and me and the nation can work together to resolve this/ these problems we are facing in the trucking industry before there is another strike like on March 20 2000, which mind you I was unable to be a part of due to almost loosing my home, my truck, I did loose my car, my husbands Dually pick up, our phones had gotten cut off and now am in the midst of his cell phone and my long distance getting cut off, and we will be loosing our one and only rig at the end of the month unless some sort of miracle happens from our precious Gov.
Letter to the press:
In response to your last letter at the bottom of this page, I am in the trucking industry & have one rig on the road right now which I am trying to expand.
All we see is very bad news about the drivers and trucks on the road as if we are Typhoid Mary, that we cause all the accidents that are on the roads, & that we are always in the way etc.
Not once has the news media printed anything good to help us change peoples minds as to the way things USE to be nearly 40 yr.'s ago, by printing something good and about safety.
Every truck that is involved in a wreck, whether its the drivers fault or not, (in most cases it is not the drivers fault at all) we get the blame for any and all accidents caused by the 4-wheeler, we do not have the support we need by the media.
nothing has ever been printed that is good in our industry, its all been nothing but bad news that you broadcast. or we hear nothing about the industry itself at all in news or in print what so ever.
All I've seen is slashing and dumping on us by the media, & other people of the nation. Why can't we ever have help from the media?
With out trucks America stops. Please think about that... by this statement, if our trucks on the roads were so bad, then why does everyone have groceries in the grocery stores, clothing in the clothing stores, shoes in the shoe stores and computers in dept. stores and computer stores, lumber at the lumber yards etc. How do you and the general public think all these things got there, fly by their wings?
No. It takes a 18-wheeler to get these things from warehouse to warehouse. Yes we still have a few "cowboys" out there, but most of the drivers have families and are decent Christians.
Some drivers use to be doctors and lawyers, mechanics and machinists etc. Some like our little company is a regular company whom are trying to get out on its own and make a decent honest mans living to support their families and have the satisfaction knowing they are doing something good for the general public and the nation.
We in the trucking industry get looked down upon just like the last 40-yr.'s ago when there were nothing but big, nasty, ugly mean truckers on the roadways.... It's not like that today. Most the drivers are nice, and caring and willing to help people in a stranded situation.
Most drivers out there have families, yes, grant you they do look like slobs most of them but that cant be helped living in a rig with no shower. There are also those whom like to look nice and keep up their homes and families in a nice manor.
We went from middle class and high class people to lower class people living on a shoe string of a budget paying high costs not only out on the roads but here at the house with extra payments of a rig, insurance, equipment for the rig, being away from our families and our families both men and women at Christmas's, anniversaries, birthdays christenings, etc. all the important stuff in a persons life the drivers miss. why? To keep the merchandise on the shelves for people like you and myself to
buy to survive.
All we see not only by the media, but by the public is bad things, and being accused of things such as accidents, when it was not our fault just so the "so called victim" whom really caused the accident can collect $145,000.00 of insurance money. Not thinking what the driver has to pay out of pocket a sum of $2500.00 deductible and the fines that are incurred.
They do not think about the families here at home or the children missing mommy and daddy, so that mommy and daddy can give them a better future.
All they think about is their stinking pocket books. and greed, not how it hurts a family and a persons pride or driving record which can affect a drivers future if they decided to change companies or get out on their own.
The safety aspect that we in the trucking industry, try to teach others. But this nations seems to know best that they either turn their noises up at us like they are better than we are or laugh right in our faces like its not important talking about how to drive around a big rig and to give a rig room etc.
No, all we hear is this driver caused an accident, this driver got shot at cause people hate drivers with the misconception of 40 yr.'s ago, this driver got arrested for speeding when in reality he was trying to get away from a 4 wheeler who was following to close. Etc.
All negativity. Man, I wish you all not only in the media but in the white house, Government, & general pubic could just spend two months in a rig to see what its like and how the drivers have to live out there, with out their families with them, the 4 wheelers cutting them off or not letting them in when a blinker is on for 15 minutes solid, etc.
I wish you all could see what it's like to miss your daughters or sons birthday and your anniversary and Christmas with the family etc.
Its no fun what so ever, it is lonely out there on the roads for these men and women whom want to make your lives, my lives and the nations lives a much better place to work.
Then we have the government taxing us to death, we pay road usage tax, but can only drive in two lanes, we pay ifta, state and federal tax, advelorium, tags, insurance up the ying yang, we pay this tax and that tax. yearly which adds up to between $6000.00 to $10,000.00 a year.
Do you or others whom drive a 4 wheeler have to pay that? No, but you all think you own the roads and wont let drivers in when they need in, you stay on their blind spots were they can't see you, you pass on the wrong side of the truck were it is hard for a driver to see you, etc.
It infuriates me as to how we are treated. Not fairly mind you, and I wish the media would sit down and listen to us... we are not stupid like most think as well, we are very intelligent, smart well educated people and humans, gods children all of us.
Man, I wish you all could help us out to show Atlanta, and the nation that we as truckers and trucking families are not that bad. I also wish you could help us spread the news about truck safety.
We are a rare breed of the nation and not many people can handle this way of life.
I know you will throw this letter away for it plainly states what trucking is all about, the truth, and you nor the nation wants to hear our lives, our stories, or what we are all about, nor will you help us in the media do anything about this.
At least I was able to get how I feel about how we are being treated in the trucking industry off my chest.
Well I will close this letter to you now and should you wish to talk to me you can reach me by phone at XXX-XXX-XXXX or write me at imppy@bellsouth.netThank you and have a great day
Debby Richardson
If we can get help from you Mr. Bush and in your election campaign you stated you are for families is this not correct? We us trucking families make up 3/4 of the worlds population, then why aren't you concerned of what is happening to us our here?.
There are families that can not feed their children, they have lost their homes and livelihoods and everything they worked their whole lives building, and I, my self and my husband is on the verge of doing the same very soon, unless I am able to obtain this small business loan that I recently applied for to keep our heads above water.
Please Mr. President help us I am begging you... I do not beg much to any one but this is mighty important or the whole nation as a whole will go into pot if you do not do something very soon.
Please listen to what I am saying... All of this is the truth for I am a christian woman and do not lie about nothing. Please help us... Please?????
Thank you for your time in this matter
Sincerely yours
Debby Richardson

I am still sending out these kinds of letters to the media and the Government... I alone can not do this alone........
Please write those letters and send them to our Goverment, your legislation, and the media, so we can gain attention to this situation before another trucking family goes out of buisness and looses their homes. PLEASE.........
