Nate Sallie: Inside Out
It's the new "Christian" boy band, just without the band, and a little more guitar than Plus One or True Vibe used. Nate does have a good voice, and throughout the CD the music is catchy, but if you want more good news than that, you're gonna have to dig.
There's only about two outright Christian songs on this CD, which in itself isn't bad, if the songs at least have uplifting themes. But half the songs on this album are either 1) love songs, 2) ambigious songs (is he singing to God or a girl?), or 3) they would be a love song if you took out the one line that makes a vague reference to someone's paying the price for my eternity.
"It's About Time" is one of those theme-type songs, talking about not wasting any more time, and the lyrics are clever. "Inside Out" has potential, singing to the girl he's about to date that it doesn't matter if she's not ready, cause "I'll always see you from the inside out." Not bad, except he never says anything about the girl having anything good inside, he just says he sees it. Oh yeah, and the fact that he says her hair doesn't matter to him, but he lists his own hair stylist in the CD jacket. Huh?
But all lyrical complaints aside, where this CD really fails is in variety. There are two songs with the same point: "trying to get you back." And the whole CD has that groovy-poppy-boybandy sound, with almost enough guitar at points to classify it as "rock" (almost).
Good singing. Catchy music that all sounds the same. Occasionally clever and usually shallow lyrics. That's the jist of it.
