The Swift
From the opening banging notes of the piano, the band's intentional Keith-Green-like sound is obvious, yet since it's a band, the guitars add a nice balance. "Come On" is catchy, but there's no verse or anything; it's just a repetitive chorus that sings the title 29 times. "More Than Gold" is an excellent worship song. "Wake Up" has the best balance of the two melodic instruments: the guitars get loud, but the piano can still be heard. "Moshing Machine" is clever and funny, except that The Swift isn't exactly the kind of band that anyone would mosh to. The Keith-Greeny-feel on those songs is almost nonexistent. Next, "Soften Your Heart" sounds the most like the classic artist, and the lead singer even sounds a bit like him, but the song stops abruptly.
"Almost There" is kinda bland, and we wouldn't be missing anything if the lead singer stayed off the high notes. "Under the Sun" makes up for it, though, complete with a good message balancing Solomon's "nothing new under the sun" and Isaiah's "God will do a new thing": "If there's something new, it could only come from you, You're the only thing that's new under the sun." "Surround Me" makes a nice finisher for the CD, but even though it might be creative to sing five seconds of each of the first ten songs in your close, it doesn't necessarily fit together lyrically.
The lyrics are good, sometimes simple, sometimes clever. The band does a good job with the Keith Green sound they tried to achieve, yet they didn't clone him either. If you liked Keith Green or enjoy piano-heavy music, this CD is for you.
