What kind of contract will I have to sign to have a Trueblood Kitten?

If you purchase a kitten from us without breeding rights, then we require that the cat not be used for any breeding purposes.   We will not force you to neuter any kitten.  However, if accidental breeding does occur, we require that compensation of any sort not be incurred for the offspring and that all contract conditions apply to the offspring.  In case of willfull violation, Trueblood Siamese will at its option require the return of the kitten/cat and all offspring or the economic equivalent thereof.

How do you define "willfull violation"

A "willfull violation" is defined as breeding for compensation of any sort, or as multiple "accidental breedings".

If I purchase a kitten with breeding rights, will I face any breeding restrictions?

No, we do not have any breeding restrictions or covenants.  However, we will refuse to place a kitten with any individual(s) whose sole purpose is the breeding of kittens.

How do you define the "sole purpose of breeding kittens"?

In general, if the kitten/cat spends the majority of the day locked in a cage with minimal human interaction, we consider this to be an unacceptable condition which meets our definition of "sole purpose of breeding kittens".  We reserve the right to refuse sale to anyone who falls under this definition.

How is the price of a kitten determined?

Business model considerations aside, in general the price of a kitten is driven by its show ring potential and breeding potential; these two variables become more defined as each kitten matures.  Therefore, the best time to get the lowest price is while the kitten is young.   If you are interested specifically in a show quality kitten, it may be best to wait until the kitten is old enough to determine its show potential, albeit the price may be higher.  This is why many breeders put "conditional reserves" on their kittens.

What is a conditional reserve?

A conditional reserve is a stipulation that the kitten you are purchasing may be withdrawn from sale if it turns out to be show quality.

Do you have conditional reserves?

No.  Such policies are not in the best interest of our customers or our kittens.  Many breeders are reluctant to give their customers top quality kittens, viewing the pet owning general public as a dumping ground for their failed experiments, preferring to reserve show quality kittens to themselves for their own self interest.

What kind of health guarantee do you offer for the kitten?

We guarantee that the kitten/cat will be in good general health at the time of sale.  We also guarantee that the kitten/cat will be free from any genetic defects that affect the quality of life of the kitten/cat.   For these reasons, we breed for maximum genetic diversity and give our cats/kittens full veterinary health care.  Our liability is limited to an exchange for a new kitten.

What is "maximum genetic diversity"?

In simple terms, it means only breeding cats from distinct genepools. This is diametrically opposed to the common practice of only breeding from a handful of popular lines, based solely on name recognition.

How do you support genetic diversity?

We scour the globe for genetically distinct pure Siamese genepools.  This is a difficult and expensive process, yet it is well worth the benefit to our cats and customers.

What do you feed your cat/kittens?

We primarily follow the Feline Future diet.  The Feline Future diet is a natural, raw diet based on foods that are biologically appropriate for cats.  Preparing this type of diet can be very time consuming and expensive, therefore, it is a good indicator of how much any breeder truly cares for their cats and kittens.

We realize this diet is not possible for everyone.  For that reason we expose our kittens to a wide variety of high quality dry and moist foods.  At a minimum, we recommend Hills Science Diet brand cat food.

What type of cat litter do you use?

We use all natural wheat bran.  This litter is non-toxic, bio-degradable and safe for kittens and the environment.  In conjunction with the Feline Future diet, we have virtually no litter box odor.
