Invested in community infrastructure needs such as water and sewer; libraries; sport facilities; and the arts.

Finances
First income tax cut in Island history.
Tabled three balanced budgets.
Have paid over $642 M in interest and principal payments on the debt since 1996.
Interest costs as a percentage of debt has declined from 14% in 1997 and has remained at 11% for the past two years.
Through prudent management, have contained growth of the debt at 1996 levels of approximately $1 B.
Refused to harmonize the PST and GST, retaining Prince Edward Island’s tax independence.
No increases to property tax rates in 6 years.
