Starbuck's Relationshipper Awards
There are many aspects to a website that draw avid X-Philes and relationshippers to return again. For me, this is a combination of a rational, well-organized, easy-to-navigate design (aesthetically pleasing, if you will), commitment by the webmaster or mistress to update often, information, a wide variety of activities or areas to explore, and something that makes it special. A website needs something that sets it apart from every other X-Files Page out there. Trust me, there are a LOT of sites out there. I designed these awards with a number of sites in mind, because everyone's different. Here are my main criteria:
Originality. (IE: You can't have stolen all your pictures from someone else's site without credit given. You need to have something that makes you different and better for being different.)
Completion. (IE: Your site can be a work-in-progress, with updates to come and whatever, but it has to actually be in progress and navigateable without getting errors and under construction messages.)
Content. (IE: Pages that are simply miles and miles of links will not be considered. A multitude of topics is ideal.)
Tact. (IE: Absolutely no pornography, no slander, no racial or any other type of discriminating comments, suggestions or tolerance.)
Creativity. (IE: Your page is nice to look at...simple as that.)
Direction. (IE: If a section of your page contains fan fiction, it doesn't suddenly break out into pictures, articles, or other assorted paraphernalia. Also known as organization. Definately a plus.)
Quality. (IE: Not just any old crap that you found. Interesting material, effort made to provide, for example, high-quality pictures rather than squint-inducing murkiness. Hard to define but easy to see..or not see.)
Maintenance. (IE: No broken links! Hopefully updated since, you know, the last millennia. Has kept up nicely with new information, reviews, whatever you offer.)
All X-Files. (IE: Doesn't need to be shipper-related - see my awards below - but needs to be regarding one subject and one subject only...the X-Files)
My Link. (IE: If you are given my award, you must download the picture to your site and link it back to my address at either http://www.oocities.org/Area51/Orion/6061/ or http://launchpad.to/thexfilesshippers/)
The Awards:
[Winners]
Awarded for outstanding web page design. Met and excelled in all critera given and showed great dedication to providing visitors with the latest information in a clear, interesting way. Originality is an especial asset.
[Winners]
Awarded to relationshipper sites based on meeting and possibly exceeding the criteria listed above. Bronze represents a good quality site. Silver is awarded for impressive qualities and exceeding at least part of the criteria. Gold is awarded only to the highest quality sites, sites that I admire and would strive to be like.
[Winners]
Awarded to sites who meet the above criteria and whose content includes compilations, music videos, collages, icons, wallpaper and other forms of media that are designed entirely by (without exception) the webmaster or mistress and reveal the result of hard work, time, effort, and originality in their products.
[Winners]
This award is given to those sites who have incorporated what could be defined as "shippy" material, in an unbiased way that allows NoRoMo and neutral visitors to visit and enjoy themselves. Dual citizenship is especially evident in reviews, which often reveal a person's persuasion and are difficult to write in an impartial manor. Must have met the criteria listed at the top of the page and have visible evidence of both shippy and neutral material that can be easily accessed on their site.
[Winners]
Uh, although this award pretty much explains itself, I thought I might clarify. In order to win this award, you must have demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to everything X-Files. Particular interests (like David Duchovny, for example) must be accompanied by at least some general X-Files content. It's pretty easy to just surf around and put stuff you find on X-Files or whatever topic on your site in a haphazard way, so I'm still looking for organization, thoroughness, and, of course, obsession!
[Winners]
Not every site is as complete and visually stunning and technically perfect as some of the others out there. Perhaps, as was the case with me, you had to teach yourself 'html' from scratch. Perhaps your site is new. It's complete, but it needs to be bulked up yet. Sites that are high quality in spirit, if not in density right yet, will be awarded.
