"Terms of Endearment"

Maybe they should stick with comedy

A note to all X-Files writers:  While plot and character development are important, and having most of the loose ends tied by the time the credits roll around is an asset, I consider the title most pertinent to an episode's reception by an audience.  Please make note that if you are going to include "endearment" or any other 'warm' characteristic in future episodic titles, it had better darned well apply to Mulder and Scully.  If this is not possible, please inform all shippers beforehand to avoid potentially dangerous levels of disappointment.  The absence of any shippy moments is a mortal sin, untrue to the show (who do you think you are...John Shiban?), and will undoubtedly cause the bashing of your particular episode for months to come on the internet. Please be forewarned.

While this episode showed signs of greatness as far as plot was concerned, I'm afraid it was bitterly disappointing for all us shippers.  Not even five miniscule minutes of on-screen togetherness <scowls>.

However, Mulder does phone Scully several times to check out her opinion and greets her with a hand on the small of her back when she meets him at the hospital (always a good sign). Distracted by everything that is happening, Mulder rambles on about how this fits with the demonic harvest thing, etc.  Scully, getting his attention, leans close to him and says reassuringly:

Quote of the Week:

Scully: Mulder...it's me.  That's your cover story, remember?

While driving to try to intercept Wayne, Mulder has a breakthrough and, before pulling a violent U-turn, says, "Hold on, Scully."  Well, he wouldn't want is one-and-only to be smushed against the window, would he?

Just a side note:  Kudos to whoever picked the music that Wayne (and later his demon wife,.Betsy) cruise to in their red Camaro.  It was Garbage - "I'm Only Happy When It Rains."  How fitting!  I love that song.

Next week's episode is now going to be:
