Bangor

I wasn't looking for another lover

My heart had had enough

Of the lies and excuses I'd been told

Of the promises made and not kept.

One Sunday in July, I found myself at a carnival

Little did I know my life would change.

I walked around the midway

Not looking for another man.

The carnies barked come-ons to play their games

But always wanting me to part

with what little cash I had.

Late in the afternoon, something caught my eye.

He stood about six feet tall

Dark curls topped by a red ball cap.

His size intimidated me, but

He had a nice smile

He motioned me over and introduced himself

By pointing out his name tattooed down his left forearm.

He had a break coming up, he said

I was welcome to join him if I liked.

As we walked around the midway

I found that I liked this man's company

And wanted to spend more time with him.

An opportunity would soon arise.

Late that night, long after the carnival closed,

We got together and talked.

It began to rain and we sought shelter

high in the grandstand.

Tentatively, our lips met, then with more passion we kissed

Soon it became apparent that intimacy was our next step

I felt his hands on my body

as we stripped away the unnecessary layers;

His mouth on my womanhood left me weak and wanting more.

"I'll never hurt you," he said as he entered me

Loving me expertly, gently, passionately

I knew then I was falling in love with him.

Next morning, it was hard to say goodbye

I looked into those beautiful hazel green eyes and knew

Just knew I had met my future.

His touch gentle and sure as he wiped away my tears

"Don't cry, darlin'," he said, "We'll be together soon, I promise."

We kissed goodbye; long, slow, and with as much passion as our lovemaking.

I swear on my father's grave

I thought I saw him mouth the words

I love you.

I believe now, there in Bangor, Maine

That I discovered that there is such a thing

As love at first sight
