All Through the House
by
Sheryl Battin
Twas the night before the night before Christmas
And the whole house was a mess
The children were bored
The keyword was stress
There
were cookies and crumbs
All over the kitchen floor
While dogs, cats and kids
Reached out for more
And dad in his
baseball cap
And I in my Christmas Tee
Had just settled in the den
For a long wrapping presents
spree
When out in the yard
There arose such a din
That we sprang from the
couch
To see which kid was done in
Away to the front door
I rushed with all possible speed
My heart was pounding
As I wondered who was in need
As I threw open the front door
On that cold, dark, starry night
My eyes were dazzled
By beautiful bright lights
For out on my lawn
What did I see?
But wreaths, lovely decorations
And lights in every tree.
I suddenly realized
There was silence around me
And noticed all my
children
Playing together so quietly
There in the living room
Everything was neat and clean
The presents were all wrapped
And the tree didn't even lean
The kitchen was shining
With every dish
put away
Someone had even scraped
Up the play clay
With the soothing sounds
Of carols in the back ground
I went to my chair
And I sat myself down
I realized I had no reason
To feel guilty
Everything was done
And it was even a day early
So here is the wish
That I'm making for you
May all of your wildest
Christmas dreams come true
