TS Adelaide farewells
held at Port Adelaide Naval Association |
|
PROFILE Chief Petty Officer Stewart jointed the Unit as a volunteer in March 1981, helping in the canteen for one year, before taking over the store. In 1983 she was persuaded to take up a position on staff, her appointment was from September 1984. Since that date she has fulfilled most roles in the Unit, including Training Officer and Coxswain, but Regulating both in the Unit and on Annual Training camps is where her organisation skills have been the most use to the ANC, especially for weekend camps, outside activities and involvement with community events. She has attended numerous ATC's including joining with Western Australian Cadets over Easter at the Defence Centre Perth (old HMAS LLEWEYN premises), HMAS CRESWELL, the Bi-Centennial Camp in 1988 when approximately 1000 personnel were in Sydney. This included Cadets from England, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden (that was frustrating as they had little knowledge of English) as well as a number of other countries. 1986 she was one of the lucky ones to attend a ten day camp at HMAS CEREBUS for all Australian instructors. While the training was full on, this and information gained has proven worthwhile, although being in the outside pool at 0600 every morning was not fun, especially as some of the lectures went until after 2200 the night before. The new Long Service Cadet Medal, only recently re-introduced, for fifteen years service was awarded in May 2001. FAREWELL TS Adelaide farewelled CPO Jean Stewart last night at a function held at the Port Adelaide Naval Association attended by former Officers, Cadets and current Cadets, Officers and Parents of the TS Adelaide Cadet Unit. Jean was presented by Commanding Officer Lt Bernie Fairhurst with many gifts including plaques from other Cadet Units and a plaque from TS Adelaide and other gifts including a pen set engraved from the Cadet Unit. A supper was provided by the Cadet Unit and included a most beautiful sponge cake commemorating her time with the Cadet Unit. The Cadets and Officers of TS Adelaide will sadly miss Jean, as she is always there and has time and energy for the Cadets whatever their needs. Jean totalled 22 years with the Cadet Unit and had seen many Cadets and Officers change hands during her time with TS Adelaide. We wish Jean Stewart a fond farewell and very
happy and healthy retirement. |
