Australian Navy Cadets Unit and Cadet Awards (1 and 2 December 2001)

Cadet of the Year Award

Commander Phillips and Commander Gherardin presented the "Cadet of the Year Award".    Commander Phillips said "As I travelled around the Units, Commander Gherardin and I interviewed the Units nominations for the Award of the Cadet of the Year.  I must say that I was amazed and pleased at the calibre and standard of these Cadets and choosing only one of them as Cadet of the Year has been extremely difficult."

The following Cadets received the nomination from their respective Units :

Leading Seaman Kate McDonald "TS Flinders"

Able Seaman Roger Sharp "TS Whyalla"

Able Seaman Grace Thompson "TS Augusta"

Petty Officer Carly Southam "TS Noarlunga"

Chief Petty Officer Matthew Mulholland "TS Stuart"

The Cadet of the Year wins a trip on the "One and All" courtesy of the Ships' Association for which the ANC is most grateful.  Councillor Bruce Johansen representing Her Worship The Mayor of Port Adelaide and Enfield presented the Shield to PO Southam.

Most Improved Unit in South Australia

The Most Improved Unit in South Australia was presented by Commander Phillips and went to :

"TS Noarlunga"

and the Navy League of Australia (SA Branch) Annual Efficiency Shield was presented by Alan Preskett of the Navy League, and the Shield went to :

"TS Augusta"
