Welcome to ‘Carrie Fisher: The Distressing Damsel.’ Why is this site called ‘The Distressing Damsel’? It’s from a famous quote of Carrie’s in which she says that Princess Leia is not a damsel in distress, but a distressing damsel. If you didn’t already know that Carrie Fisher was Princess Leia Organa in the Original Star Wars trilogy…now you do!

Most people think that that is the only thing she’s ever been in. That is certainly not true. She’s been in The Blues Brothers, The ‘Burbs,  Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and many others. She is also the author of 3 best selling and very witty semi-autobiographical novels; one of which is “Postcards from the Edge” which was turned into a movie.

She is the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, who ran off with Elizabeth Taylor. Eddie Fisher is also bi-polar and a speed addict, and Carrie does not speak to him. He also left Debbie with nothing. She was born in 1956 as Carrie Frances Fisher. She grew up as part of the Hollywood royalty and has lived in Beverly Hills all of her life. She also has a brother named Todd. Her debut film role was in Shampoo when she was just a teenager, though she acted on stage as a young teenager with her mother, who was more of the girl next door type. She on the other hand would be the girl with the bagel buns and in the metal bikini.

In 1977, she became known to the world as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. She starred alongside Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. In the sequels she played Harrison’s love interest in Empire and Jedi, as well as it is rumored to have been in real life. If you were looking for Harrison Ford on the set of Star Wars, you’d need to look no farther than Carrie Fisher’s dressing room, according to David Prowse anyway (the body of Darth Vader). The night before the Bespin scenes were shot in Empire, Harrison and Carrie had gone out drinking with Eric Idle, and were drunk during the whole arriving at Bespin scenes. It is one of the only scenes in the trilogy where they are both smiling quite a bit. Eric Idle is very proud of his influence on the trilogy. To this day they are good friends and she even visited his 800 acre ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to go white water rafting.

In 1978, she was on SNL with Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi among others, the day after the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special aired. She landed a role in the Blues Brothers gig. She was also engaged to Dan Aykroyd at the time of the filming of the Blues Brothers movie. He had proposed to her when she choked on a brussel sprout and he gave her the Heimlich manuver. Even though the marriage never worked out, they still are good friends. John Belushi got her into drugs and she battled drugs for almost a decade going in and out of rehabs. John Belushi died from a drug overdose in 1982 and is part of this country's sick anti-drug campaign in which his talent is completely ignored for what it was. She was married to Paul Simon for less than 2 years in the early 80s. It was Richard Dreyfuss who told her she was messed up first. Dan Aykroyd, it is said also was responsible for getting her to go into rehab. It wasn’t just drugs that were her problem though. She was diagnosed as bipolar, also called manic-depressive. She’s been clean off drugs for more than a decade now.

Her first marriage to Paul Simon lasted less than a year. Her second marriage was to Bryan Lourd, who was gay. Her daughter Billie Catherine is by him. She loves her daughter and mother very much and often talks about them. Her best friend is also Penny Marshall, with whom she threw her 47th birthday bash with complete with a Princess Leia standee, an ambulence parked out front, and I.V. bags on every table filled with different colored waters.

She is today a well-sought after script doctor in Hollywood. She is a witty comedian and has learned a lot throughout her tumultuous life. She does a lot of work with bipolar awareness and still does the rounds as Princess Leia, and was at the 2002 Celebration II, as well as she attended the Special Edition premieres in 1997.

She currently hosts an interview show called “Conversations from the Edge” on the Oxygen Network. This site is for crazy Carrie Fisher, whose antics and insight are wonderful to read. She truly is a ‘Princess with a Pen’.
