Project #1

Early Humans and the Rise of Civilization

Pretend that you are a staff member at a museum and you have to design an exhibit on the people of Mesopotamia.

Your exhibit should clearly address this question: Which group of Mesopotamians made the most significant impact on history?

You may pick from one of these groups: Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Chaldeans, or Persians.

In order to convince the museum trustees that your choice is the best, you will create a presentation for their next meeting. Your presentation must include these elements:

An imaginative exhibit title that will attract museum visitors.

A five-paragraph persuasive speech that outlines your choice for the exhibit. You speech must include an introduction that clearly describes what group you think the exhibit should be about.

a)      Two body paragraphs that explain and give supporting evidence for your choice

b)     A third body paragraph that explains why other groups were not selected. As supporting detail, pick one group and show why it did not make as           significant an impact.

c)      A conclusion that repeats your position and reminds the trustees of your main points.

d)     Visuals of at least two artifacts that you propose to have in the exhibit with a three- to four-sentence caption describing each object and its significance.

e)      A rough draft.

f)       A typed, final draft with proper grammar, spelling, and a bibliography of the sources for the information provided in your presentation.
