The Wind
One day the sun shone and I set sail,
Adrift on a dream.
Off I flew in no particular order,
No course, no heading,
No sense, no purpose.
Away I blew, across the oceans
The sky beamed, I noticed
as I wandered beneath it;
The blue I admired, the clouds it acquired
A perfect match in harmony
Then down I looked into the seas
My eyes had spied the life below.
The waters teemed with fish and whales.
They leapt and swam in celebration
Their lives I resolved had no complication.
Across the expanse I continued
Southward I flew, my mind it wandered.
In due time I saw the ice outlined
It measured its loneliness against the tides
Magnificent, regal, its glory defined
To the north I turned and away I went,
I knew not where, no longer content.
Without warning the night appeared
Stars exploding against the blackness
A canvas of perfection now revealed
Yet in that darkness the rage it grew
I raced and drove, my mind no clue
Across the empty void I wandered
Feeling incomplete
The question inside antagonizing
The lack of completion fuels my rage
A whirlwind spins aloft, confusion reigns!
My compass is lost and the pain still grows
No dreams, no compassion,
No life, no hope.
Lowered to the depths of my insanity
Into land I crashed without regard
My fury unleashed
The madness continues unabated
The tears raining down, leaving me inconsolable
Crying now, the water splashing across the plain
Aimlessly I wandered without direction
Unfeeling, uncaring, devoid of emotion
Magic appeared as dawn awoke,
The warmth melting the ice surrounding my heart
Slowly as I lifted my head
A burgeoning mountain arose in the distance
I peered out to spy this latest mystery
Bloodied yet curious, regarding this new apparition
I picked myself up and drifted aloft
Closer I crept, the tower it drew me
Upwards I climbed
To the summit and beyond I peaked
Down to the valley below, hidden in the mist
A lonely figure remained, so out of place
To the pit I dropped, desperate to cling
The despair I witnessed, a friend it seemed
The pain encountered, my pain forgotten
The eagle alone I soon embraced
Her time to fly was all I noticed
Into my hands, her feathers I lifted
Tentatively at first, then finally she blossomed
Her wings and my loft, together we soared
I saw life and love and understood
Our happiness in God’s plan revealed
for fire
