R5-D4 was seen aboard the Jawa sandcrawler in Star Wars, and was purchased by Luke Skywalker and Owen Lars just before he blew his motivator. Uncle Owen exchanged him for R2-D2 instead. Some sources say the red droid was deliberately sabotaged by R2-D2, while others suggest he was actually a Rebel spy himself.
