With a successful 1998 season behind them, the Tradewind’s Softball team prepares to take the field for 1999. The 1998 season included many memorable moments including a stunning 17 run, late inning comeback to help secure a share of the Williams tournament title. Other accomplishments included a top 13 finish at the ASA state tournament and a top 9 finish at the USSSA state tournament. With 12 returning players from the ’98 team, this year should be exciting.

GET INTO SHAPE!

Tradewind’s owner and coach, Steve Soesbe, urges all his team members to get into playing shape prior to the start of the season. Soesbe himself has been playing racquetball and lifting in the offseason to get himself ready. The better prepared you are coming into the year, the better we will fair in the early tournaments.

Soesbe is getting a new home.

Starting sometime in the spring, Steve and Connie Soesbe will be building a new house on the lot where they currently live. It will probably be required for all softball players to lend a hand in this event so it doesn’t carry on into August or September. Steve has already talked with a few members of the team regarding their responsibilities on the house. For those that haven’t been contacted, you will be.

Bendicksons to have a baby!

Lee Bendickson and his wife are expecting a baby sometime in June/July. While ecstatic over the news, Steve Soesbe asked Lee; "Couldn’t you of timed it a little better?" Lee will probably miss some of the season but has complete confidence in Tim Simodynes to fill in for him. (Just for the record, Tim does have good timing with his childbirth.) Good luck to the Bendicksons.

Slezak takes on a new look.

For those of you expecting to see the same old Shawn Slezak this season, you will be sorely disappointed. Due to a change in his work status, Shawn is now clean cut and looking good. Shawn also has dropped between 30 and 40 pounds since Christmas. Hopefully other players will feed (no pun intended) off of Shawn’s example and will be ready to go.

Getting Started

As in years in the past, when the Tradewind’s Softball team starts its preseason drills depends on the weather. Steve will be getting in touch with people sometime in the near future to solidify his plans for positions and whatnot. If you have any questions regarding Tradewinds Softball or just want to check in, you can e-mail Steve at sodapop53@webtv.net.

See you in the Spring...
