Herb Smith, bigger, stronger but definitely not faster
In the off season, Herb Smith dedicated himself to the Tradewinds team by hitting the weight room. The results are obvious, as Herb has increased his bicep size by over two inches. The results were also apparent on the field as Herbert hit .588 for the weekend and led the team in homers with three. Said Herb about his gritty performance; "I’ve known all along that I was the powerhouse on this team, the coach would just never let me show my s***."
Kopaska brothers find their niche with Tradewinds’ Softball
Jeff and Jim Kopaska seem to be fitting in nicely with the tournament team. Their speed and agility has secured them a spot with the rest of the elite athletes that make up Tradewinds’ Softball. There was talk around the dugout that both brothers can leg out the forty yard dash in just under a week. Coach Steve Soesbe said he was just happy to have a couple of guys on the team that weren’t related to Marty.
Bendickson comes up with key hit
With two outs in the top of the seventh, down one run in the opening tournament game of the year, Lee Bendickson came up big. With Herb Smith standing in scoring position, Bendickson came up with one of his classic "burns" on an outfielder. Lee smoked a ball over the head of the right centerfielder that scored Herb and ignited a five run inning that resulted in a Tradewinds win. Bendickson was obviously excited as he almost broke a smile while rounding first base. The master of emotion continues to be the sparkplug in the Tradewinds’ engine.
Slezak and Randy Thomas are still MIA
Shawn and Randy, where are you? We all miss you very much and hope you will get over whatever has been keeping you away. Could you guys please drop us a line, just so we know you’re not dead? It sure will be nice when you get your priorities straight.

Name the Player
Related to Chris, Barry and Randy, this player is an electrician from Berwick, Ia. He has two daughters and one wife. He hit .333 opening weekend and hasn’t struck out all year. Can you name the player?
Answer to last weeks Name the Player: Shawn "the big bohemian" Slezak
Matt Pete getting better with age
Even though he complained about playing the outfield on Saturday, Matt Pete still impressed his teammates with his desire and love for the game. The most impressive moment of the weekend was when Matt made a diving catch on the run in the outfield that was waived off by the base umpire. Matt being the professional person he is proceeded to call the ump a series of names and ridicule his every call. Matt said, "Hey, I made that catch; Tony, I mean it, and if that ump can’t see to save his ass, tough s***."
(For the record, it was one hell of a catch, and it was a catch.)
Estochen makes tourney debut
Brad, aka Bob, Estochen (does anyone really know what to call him?) made his Tradewinds’ tourney debut this opening weekend. It was quite apparent that Brad (or Bob) was a little bit intimidated by the quality softball players that were standing along side of him in the dugout. Many times the rookie was heard talking to himself under his breath saying things like "when I grow up, I want to be like Joe Tjaden." And really, who can blame him?
Editor speaks out
I just want to take a second to thank all you a**holes for allowing me not only to do the newsletter, but for also letting me continue to do the stats. I don’t want to hear any bitching about my official scoring since nobody else was man enough to take over the responsibilities. Keep it up and I’ll give Shawn Woods a call and we’ll get his grandmother to coach a team.
Feel free to voice concerns and ideas
Any member of the Tradewinds’ family can submit an article for consideration in the newsletter. Our newsletter staff will look it over and determine whether or not it sucks. If it doesn’t suck, it probably would make it into the newsletter, or then again, maybe it wouldn’t, depending on my mood.
Simodynes wavering on doing a roster
Tim had originally indicated that he would be willing to compile information and complete a team roster. Yeah, right. Seems that Mr. Simodynes has developed a little attitude since he was allowed to lead off the three games on Saturday. Tim hit .500 for the weekend and now considers himself the leading contender for the coveted Tradewinds’ MVP award. Tim was overheard stating "If that a**hole Herb wins it again, we’re going to blows." As for the roster, I guess time will tell.
