Samantha's First Year (Journal)

March 28, 2001 - Samantha is born at 6:42 PM, weighing in at 8 lbs 10 oz and 22 inches long.
March 28, 2001 - At 7:03 PM she was handed over to her Mom, where she immediatley recognized who was holding her There was a special feeling in the room.
March 30, 2001 - First day at home. Brought home from the hospital in the afternoon and given a tour of the house.
March 31, 2001 - Samantha's first sponge bath at home. (See photo above)
April 01, 2001 - Samantha's first outing. Although a little early to be leaving the house, we took Samantha to the Orgill's to meet her newest friend, Tyra Orgill, who was born less than a 1/2 hour earlier on the same day as her.
April 05,2001 - Samantha is beginning to use her neck muscles to hold up her head. Her umbilicle cord dries up and falls off. Samantha has her first visit to the Dr.'s office. She weighs in at 7 lbs 15 oz. (normal weight loss)
April 06, 2001 - Samantha had her first full bath today. She didn't like it all that much. But, she loves to have her head rinsed under warm, running water!
April 07, 2001 - Samantha played with us for the first time. She opened her eyes big and smiled big! Also, we took her to a restraunt for the first time She slept the whole time...no suprise. (I guess the real trials with taking babies out to eat come a little later.)
April 08, 2001 - Samantha attended her first Sacrament meeting. We went to a friends baby blessing. She got through it OK. (She had the help of a pacifier.)
April 09, 2001 - Samantha went on her very first road trip. We went to Logan to see Uncle Jason fly his plane that he has been working on for his final project in college. She also had her first night away from home, as we stayed the night in Logan.
April 10, 2001 - Her first owie! :( Her Dad was about to bathe her. When he was bringing her over to the sink, her head hit the cupboard. OW! Her Dad felt so bad!! So did Samantha! She cried and had two small scratches on her head to show for it. Sorry, Samantha!
April 11, 2001 - We went to the Dr's to see how everything was going with Samantha. Her doctor is Dr. Wall. (Photo coming) They took a bunch of blood from her heel. She didn't like that. The Dr. said she was a healthy baby! She weighed in at 8 lbs 5 oz. She's gaining back that weight she lost!
April 13, 2001 - Her Dad's paternity leave is over and he has to go back to work. :( Although Dad is not there to help out at night, Mom and Samantha do just fine!
April 15, 2001 - Samantha's first Easter! Her Mom even gave her an Easter basket. She drooled on it...I guess that means she likes it! (Picture coming soon)
April 16, 2001 - Samantha is sleeping 5-6 hours through the night!
April 17, 2001 - Samantha was strapped to Dad in the Baby Bjorn and very happy. Dad leaned over to a mirror to show her how pretty she is! It took a minute for her to look at herself, but she finally did. At first she wasn't sure what to make of it. She looked in the mirror at herself later on today, and this time when she saw herself, she smiled! What a cutie!
April 19, 2001 - Samantha pooped all over her outfit. At least we know her bowels are working.
April 22, 2001 - Samantha attended her first three hour block of church. She did great...with the help of a pacifier. She spit up all over herself for the first time...all over Daddy, of course. She also discovered that it's fun to grab Mommy's hair while she's eating.
April 25, 2001 - Samantha went to Hunter Park with her parents and some of their friends. It was her first visit to a park. It was such a nice day. Samantha's getting bigger. We're not sure how much she weighs, but everyone tells us she's getting bigger.
April 28, 2001 - One month old! Or should we say one month young.
April 30, 2001 - Samantha's smiling big for us when we play with her.
May 03, 2001 - We caught Samantha sucking on her hand! We've been trying hard to keep her from finding it, but I suppose it was inevitable.
May 05, 2001 - She's starting to coo on a regualar basis...when she's happy. The Hillsdale Ward had a Baby Shower for Samantha.
May 06, 2001 - She was blessed during Sacrament Meeting today. She looked beautiful in her blessing dress. Almost all of her Uncles stood in the circle, which meant a lot to her parents.
May 09, 2001 - Heather took Samantha to the Dr's for a quick weigh-in. She's up to 11 lbs 1 oz.!!
May 11, 2001 - Mom and Dad went on their first date since Samantha was born. As a result, Samantha was dropped off at her very first baby sitter, Aunt Kelly.
May 12, 2001 - Picnic at the park with Mom and Dad. (Picture above)
May 14, 2001 - She gets sick with a stuffy nose and has reason to be miserable. She still manages to be a happy baby, though.
May 17, 2001 - She still has a stuffy nose so we took her to the Dr.'s. He said she has a cold. She was weighed while she was there and weighs 11 lbs 13 oz.
May 18, 2001 - She started to make sound and talk a little today. When Mommy says, "a goo" she tries to mimic her.
May 23, 2001 - We took Samantha to the movies with us for the first time. She did great, despite the loud volume.
May 25, 2001 - Mommy fed Samantha ice cubes. She liked it a lot and when it melted away she would open her mouth for more.
May 26, 2001 - She mimiced Mom when she said, "Cold, cold, cold." She would make the 'ck' sound. We went to Iosepa out in the west desert for a Luau today. It was anything but cold.
May 28, 2001 - She's two months old today and getting bigger!
May 29, 2001 - We found her with her thumb in her mouth today.
May 30, 2001 - She went to the Dr's for her first set of shots. She was smiling and playing with Mommy until the first of the needles started poking into her leg. Then she started screaming and looking at Mommy as if she had been betrayed. Samantha is in the 90th percentile in both weight and length. She weighed in at 12 lbs 5 oz. and is 23.5 inches long. The Dr. also said that she has an earache. Poor thing. (She likes the taste of the medicine they gave her for it!)
June 01, 2001 - She found her voice today! She talks to us and is so cute! We went camping up Little Cottonwood Canyon at the Tanner's Flat campground. She must find the outdoors quite relaxing, because she slept the entire time!!
June 05, 2001 - Dad and Samantha mowed the lawn together today. Samantha was acutally just along for the ride in the Baby Bjron. She loved the sound of the lawnmower.
June 06, 2001 - Mom had to go to a meeting at her work (LDS Hospital). Samantha went with her and must have had some flashbacks to the womb. She cried and fussed the whole time she was there.
June 07, 2001 - Mom went back to work today. (part time) She started out with a whopping 12 hour shift. Mom did fine, Dad did OK. He had to watch her after he picked her up from Aunt Kelly's. Dad found out that Samantha likes to cry more than he realized, which isn't much, but more than he realized. When Heather got home from work she cried too. She just held Samantha and realized that since she was born she hasn't missed a single day of her life. Now she has and was a little bit sad about it.
June 08, 2001 - Jason and Heather Slack found out that they are having a little girl in three months. Samantha will have a cute little cousin to grow up with. They will only be six months apart.
June 09, 2001 - We went to the air show at Hill Air Force Base with Jason and Heather. Samantha would open her eyes wide in wonderment when she heard the loud roaring of the planes as they passed overhead.
June 10, 2001 - According to Heather, Samantha gets excited when I come home from work in the morning. She knows that when she hears the alarm beeping that I'll be up to greet her soon.
June 12, 2001 - Samantha likes to be propped up on the couch and watch T.V. when we're watching it.
June 14, 2001 - She loves to lay on the bed in our room and stare up at the twirling fan. It makes her happy.
June 16, 2001 - She is able to "kick" herself around a little bit. Especially when she's lying in bed with us.
June 17, 2001 - Samantha may have been sick today with what her Dad had a couple of days ago and with what her Mom has today. She's not feeling too hot, but still makes the effort to be a happy, little girl.
June 19, 2001 - Samantha sits up when we hold her hands and help her.
June 20, 2001 - She is vocalizing more and more everyday. She moves her lips and mouth as if she is trying to form words.
June 21, 2001 - Aunt Kelly tended her for 9 1/2 hours today. Her cousins, Zach and Natalie love to give her kisses.
June 24, 2001 - Tyler and Heather had to play and lead music at the nursing home today. Samantha came along, of course, and made a lot of old people very happy.
June 25, 2001 - We went Geocaching together as a family. It's a new "sport" that her Dad really likes and that Mom and Samantha just tolerate. While Daddy was carrying her and ducking under a tree to find a "cache", one of the dead tree branches that was hanging down caught her in the face and scratched her under her left eye and on her head. It was her second owie given to her...once again by her DAD! What a meanie!
June 26, 2001 - Samantha got her first letter in the mail today! It was from Grandma and Grandpa Stokes. They expressed their excitement to meet her for the first time in just a couple of weeks!
June 27, 2001 - She cracked up when Mommy and Brooke were playing "Holly the Hippo" with her. Holly the Hippo is a little stuffed animal that she loves.
June 28, 2001 - She's three months old today! She's getting bigger everyday and more exciting every hour!
July 02, 2001 - Daddy was playing with her on the bed and bouncing her and she laughed and laughed! We caught it all on video too! She also got her very first package in the mail from Grandma and Grandpa Slack!
July 03, 2001 - She watched her very first neighborhood fireworks show at the Stapley's annual block party. Her Aunt Cami saw her for the very first time. Cami, Crystal and Ginger came home from Wisconsin today!
July 04, 2001 - We had a BBQ with friends today. Three of Samantha's little friends came with their parents. We got a very cute picture of Tyra, Kimber, Ashton and her all in a row in their car seats.
July 05, 2001 - She held her bottle all by herself today! It was a small-sized bottle that was only half full, but it's a start!
July 06, 2001 - Sam's Mom took her shopping at Baby'sRUs today and Samantha was being so cute. She was cooing and being so happy that everyone that passed commented on how cute she was! (Nothing that we don't already know!)
July 07, 2001 - She ate rice cereal for the very first time. Also a moment that we caught on video. She made funny faces and wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but she ate it just the same. She was especially perplexed by the spoon that wasn't shaped like anything she had ever had in her mouth before.
July 10, 2001 - Samantha has been spending a lot of time in her swing as of late due to the fact that her Mom and Dad have been tring to get the house ready for her Grandma and Grandpa Stokes when they come home on Friday. Thank goodness she likes it there!
July 13, 2001 - Grandma and Grandpa Stokes come home from Milwaukee! Finally, after three long years (or short depending on whose perspective you're coming from) they are back home and anxious to see their new granddaughter!
July 16, 2001 - She is being clingy lately! It must be all the "strangers" in the house now?! When we hand her off to someone she's not quite sure about, she screams and cries until she's back in the arms of her parents. It makes her Mom and Dad feel good to know that she thinks of us as her protectors, but it doesn't do much for everyone else!
July 17, 2001 - She ate half a jar of sweet potatoes today! It was her first vegatable and she liked them a lot! It would seem that she prefers sweet potatoes over rice cereal!
July 18, 2001 - No sooner then giving her her first vegtable does she have her very first fruit! She ate rice cereal mixed with apple sauce.
July 19, 2001 - Samantha is getting very close to rolling over (from stomach to back). It's just a matter of time before she figures this little trick out!
July 20, 2001 - All the "solid" food she's been eating has been blocking her up! We're afraid she's going to explode since all she does anymore is pee!
July 21, 2001 - Samantha met her Great Grandma Stokes for the first time today. She is 93 years old! Due to Samantha's fear of "strangers", she greeted her with a nice, healthy scream!
July 22, 2001 - Despite her recent clinginess, she allowed Sam (Ginger's boyfriend) to hold her in the Sacrament meeting while we sang a song for Grandma and Grandpa Stokes' Homecoming.
July 24, 2001 - She drank pear juice for the first time. We watched fireworks with her friend Tyra at a park in Salt Lake. She celebrated her first 24th of July!
July 25, 2001 - Samantha was lying in bed with her Mom and Dad and was on her stomach. After a little while she was tired of being on her stomach and she decided to roll on to her back! (For the very first time!) On another note; the pear juice must be doing something for her because she pooped a weeks worth of poop today! We had to wash ALL of our bedding!
July 26, 2001 - Samantha still loves the piano. After having her leg squished (by her Dad) she was pretty upset. Dad took her upstairs and played the piano for her and she calmed down immediately!
July 28, 2001 - Samantha, with the help of her Dad, sent her Mom a Birthday card over the internet.
July 29, 2001 - Samantha is talking all the time. Especially when she plays with her toys.
August 01, 2001 - Samantha went to the Dr. today and got four shots. (Two in each leg.) She weighs 16 lbs 11 oz (95th percentile) and 25.6 inches long (95th percentile) and her head is in the 100th percentile. The Dr. said she's a healthy baby.
August 03, 2001 - We drove to St George for a family vacation. Uncle Jason and Aunt Heather came with us, but in seperate cars.
August 04, 2001 - Her Dad read her the "Choo-Choo" Book in St George and she really liked that a lot. She loves to be read to. She also likes to be hung upside down. She was hung upside down by her Dad and then layed on to her stomach. She then rolled from her stomach to her back for the first time. She went swimming in a big, indoor pool today.
August 05, 2001 - She scratched Daddy's back when he was going to sleep tonight. That was very sweet and thoughtful of her.
August 06, 2001 - We went to Las Vegas today. She liked the lights and noise. On the way back to St George she had a rough time, but that was the only time she got sick of her carseat.August 07, 2001 - We went to Bryce Canyon today and started Samantha's National Parks Passport. We also drove through Zion's Park but didn't have time to stop.
August 08, 2001 - We went to Cedar City to pick up Uncle Richard. We all went to Zions Park for Slack Family Reunion. There was a huge thunderstorm that trapped us under the pavillion for over an hour.
August 15, 2001 - We went to JCPenney for Samantha's very first professional portraits. She was very cute.
August 17, 2001 - We went to the Thomsen's to visit Bridger Max Thomsen, Clint and Meadow's new baby. While we were there Samantha decided to show off and pooped up her back, all the way to her shoulders. We had to give her a bath at the Thomsen's!
August 20, 2001 - She stood up by herself when Dad propped her up against the couch. She holds herself steady with her arms.
August 21, 2001 - We went to the Zoo today as a family. It rained so hard, we all got wet!
August 23, 2001 - We drove to a lake called Smith and Moorehouse to go on a family/friend campout. At night we would sit around the campfire and Samantha loved it! She was very fascinated by the fire.
August 24, 2001 - While camping, we went on a hike and Samantha rode on her Dad's back in the REI Piggyback. She was hungry and tired and complained almost all the way. She didn't cry, she just complained.
August 25, 2001 - We came home from our camping trip and went straight to Manti for a Tolman Family Reunion. It was at a haunted house outside of Manti and it had a waterslide that Dad took Samantha on. She was a little startled, but seemed to like it still.
August 26, 2001 - We went to church today in Sterling, Utah. Then we drove home after a very long weekend.
August 27, 2001 - Samantha ate a whole jar of sweet potatoes. She's never eaten an entire jar before.
August 28, 2001 - She turned five months old today. Her Aunt Crystal was speaking Spanish to her today and she thought that was pretty funny.
August 29, 2001 - She grabs for ANYTHING that is in front of her face now. If she can gets a hold of it, the object goes directly to her mouth.
August 30, 2001 - We moved to South Jordan today.
September 01, 2001 - We drove to Cedar City to watch Uncle Richard play football. It was her very first football game. She got a fake tattoo on her ankle to show her "team spirit"!
September 02, 2001 - We drove home from Southern Utah. Samantha likes to look at her Dad when he's trying to drive. She kinks her neck clear back and stares and waits for him to look back at her. When he does glance back, she gives him a huge smile and waits for him to look back again. It's so cute! It makes him want to look back all the time and makes it very hard to drive!
September 04, 2001 - Samantha is rolling around everywhere. But still only from her back to stomach. And after she's on her stomach for too long she gets really mad.
September 05, 2001 - She gets around on her back by scooting her bum around. Mom puts her down on the floor and leaves for a minute, and when she comes back Samantha has moved clear across the floor to the other side of the room!
September 07, 2001 - We picked up her first portraits from JCPenney today. She's so cute! When we change her diapers, she holds her legs up for us. Such a good girl.
September 10, 2001 - Samantha says "Mama" when she cries.
September 13, 2001 - She's rolling from her stomach to her back.
September 14, 2001 - She's ticklish on her collar, just like her Dad. Whe we tickle her there, she laughs like crazy.
September 16, 2001 - She ate turkey and rice and she loved it. It's her favorite.
September 18, 2001 - Grandma and Grandpa Slack came from Houston. They think she's the cutest!
September 19, 2001 - Grandma and Grandpa Slack tended Samantha today and had a blast! Her very first tooth poked through today and she wasn't even fussy.
September 22, 2001 - Samantha's cousin, Jaylee, was born today. She weighed 9 lbs. 13 oz. We were in Cedar City watching her Uncle Richard play football.
September 23, 2001 - We went to Logan to see Jaylee at the hospital.
September 26, 2001 - She had a good time in the bath today, splashing around and playing.
September 27, 2001 - Samantha ate her first green food. It was broccolli and chicken and she liked it!
>September 28, 2001 - SIX MONTHS OLD TODAY!! She says "DADA" and she gave us hugs!
October 01, 2001 - Samantha is starting to reach where she wants to go. Especially when we're about to lift her out of the carseat, she'll reach up to us and help herself out.
October 02, 2001 - She's trying to scoot on her stomach.
October 03, 2001 - She likes to play with Mommy and Daddy's nose and mouth and she's starting to give kisses. We went to Logan to visit Uncle Jason, Aunt Heather and Jaylee.
October 05, 2001 - She sits up by herself for long periods of time. We were at the Sterlings tonight and she sat up and played with toys for a long time without falling over.
October 06, 2001 - She sat in a highchair in a restraunt for the first time. All of her Aunts and Uncles and Grandma and Grandpa on the Slack side went to the Olive Garden for dinner and she did alright in the highchair.
October 08, 2001 - We went shopping at the store and put her in the shopping cart set for the first time. She liked it.
October 10, 2001 - Samantha loves to wake Dad up in the afternoon.
October 12, 2001 - We left her on our bed alone, thinking we would both be back soon. She rolled off the bed before we could get back. She got a rug burn on her forehead and was a little upset. We both felt bad and won't be leaving her on the bed unattended anymore.
October 13, 2001 - She's scared of strangers like never before. Even people who aren't strangers, like Grandma, can't hold her because she starts screaming.
October 14, 2001 - We went to Logan for the baby blessing of her cousin Jaylee. We got a picture with all of her Aunts and Uncles and Grandma and Grandpa on the Slack side.
October 15, 2001 - She's trying to get around and go where she wants to go, although it's not quite crawling, yet.
October 16, 2001 - We're now moved in to our new basement apartment. It's on 942 W Park Palisade Dr in South Jordan. Samantha has her own room now.
October 18, 2001 - Another tooth! It's right next to her first one on the bottom.
October 21, 2001 - We attended church meetings at our new ward for the first time. It's the Jordan River 16th Ward.
October 23, 2001 - Today was Samantha's six month check up. She weighs 20 lbs. and is 27.5 inches tall! The Doctor said her head is a little too big so we are getting a Ct scan done on Thursday. Mom bought Samantha her very first doll for being so good during her shots.
October 24, 2001 - Samantha makes her own indian noises by making a fist and putting the back of her hand up against her mouth.
October 25, 2001 - Today was the Ct scan. Samantha did so good. They had to wrap her up in a blanket and strap her arms and legs down. It was hard to hear her cry but it didn't take very long.
October 26, 2001 - We went to a Halloween party at the Maylett's tonight. Samantha dressed up as an adorable pink bunny.
October 27, 2001 - Samantha gives Mom and Dad big kisses with her mouth wide open. We love it!
October 28, 2001 - SEVEN MONTHS OLD TODAY!!!
October 29, 2001 - Mom was on the computer and left Samantha on her stomach. When she looked back a few minutes later Samantha was sitting up. We aren't sure how she did it.
October 31, 2001 - Samantha dressed up in her bunny rabbit suit again and we went to Grandma and Grandpa Stokes house to see all of her cousins all dressed up. We made white chocolate ghosts there and took tons of pictures. It was very fun!
November 02, 2001 - Samantha caught a cold. She is handling it very well.
November 04, 2001 - We went to Logan to visit Uncle Jason, Aunt Heather and our almost two month old Jaylee. We all slept over and had a great time.
November 05, 2001 - Samantha is waving hello and bye-bye now. She is also starting to get shy around others.
November 07, 2001 - Samantha has started scooting backwards. She is really starting to get around.
November 08, 2001 - She said "yeah" and "ya" today!
November 09, 2001 - Samantha loves to clap her feet together.
November 12, 2001 - She is scooting around forwards today!.
November 13, 2001 - Samantha's scoot has officially been upgraded to an army crawl. She is getting very good at it.
November 17, 2001 - Mom got Samantha in the habit of saying "mmmm" after every bite of food. How cute!
November 18, 2001 - Samantha is crawling around far now. She kept crawling over to the plug in the kitchen that she can reach so mom had to smack her hand a little to keep her away.
November 22, 2001 - It was Sami's first Thanksgiving day. We spent the afternoon at Grandpa and Grandma Stokes house. Sami loved the potatoes and rolls. We have a lot to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Especially with such a wonderful baby like Sami in our lives!
November 24, 2001 - We took Sami to Primary Children's Hospital for and MRI of her head today. She had a really bad cold so they had to double check that she would do okay. We decided everything would be fine so they went ahead with the test. They placed an IV in her hand so that they could give her medicine to put her to sleep so she would hold still for the 1/2 an hour test. It was real hard to see her like that. Sami hated the tubes up her nose and fought those even when she was knocked out. Everything went good and her head is just fine. We are glad we had the tests so we don't have to worry about her large head.
November 28, 2001 - We can't believe it Sami is EIGHT MONTHS OLD TODAY!
November 29, 2001 - Sami pulled herself up to her knees to reach a toy on her saucer today.
December 05, 2001 - Sami pulled herself up to a standing position!
December 06, 2001 - Sami is really getting the hang of her sippy cup. She is starting to suck on it with the spill proof gadget in.
December 07, 2001 - Sami had a bunch of first tastes today! She had eggs for breakfast, a little gravy on her mashed potatoes and she scavenged a piece of chicken that mom accidentally dropped on the floor.
December 08, 2001 - We went downtown to see the Christmas lights at temple square. Sami got to wear her cute pink snowsuit and ride in the baby bjourn on dad's chest. She just loved all the lights even though it was very cold.
December 12, 2001 - Sami had her first taste of a Twix candy bar and a sip of Fresca. Of course she loved it! That runs in the family!!
December 14, 2001 - It was Dad's 26th birthday today. Mom and Sami made it a very special day!
December 15, 2001 - We ate at a restaurant tonight and the people next to us commented on how lucky we were to have such a happy baby. Of course we agree.
December 17, 2001 - Sami tasted rootbeer for the first time today. It was very flat but of course she still liked it.
December 18, 2001 - Sami just jibber-jabbed all day today. She is becoming quite the little talker.
December 22, 2001 - Sami loves to listen to Christmas music. She calms right down and plays so good whenever we have it on.
December 25, 2001 - Merry Christmas! It was a wonderful day today. Sami liked opening the first present but got tired of it after that so Dad helped out a lot. Santa Claus got her a crawling Minnie thinking that she would love how it moved around and played music whenever you touch it. Boy was he wrong. Sami hated that every time she touched Minnie it would come crawling at her and she would try to push it away but Minnie just kept coming back. Finally Sami leaned over and bit Minnie on the nose! We sure missed Grandpa and Grandma Slack on this holiday but Sami got a very fun musical ball toy from them. She loves watching the balls go round and round. Grandpa and Grandma Stokes came to visit and see all her new presents. They brought Sami a fun walker/car to help her learn to walk. She wasn't very comfortable with that toy yet but it will come in handy later! We had a very fun day!
December 26, 2001 - Mom had to work today so Sami and Dad got to spend the day together. Sami stood in the musical ball toy and walked all around it while holding on to it.
December 27, 2001 - Sami's third tooth poked out today. It is on the bottom to the right of the other bottom two.
December 28, 2001 - Sami is NINE MONTHS OLD TODAY! She was bouncing to the music playing while she sat on her walker/car.
January 01, 2002 - HAPPY NEW YEAR! Dad had to work tonight so we went to Grandpa and Grandma Stokes house to celebrate the New Year. Sami was a little delirious but awake when the clock struck midnight!
January 03, 2002 - Sami's fourth tooth is coming in now. It is on the bottom to the left of the others. She is really good at drinking from her sippy cup now.
January 05, 2002 - Sami played peek-a-boo with Dad today. She lifted up a pillow and let it drop so she could see Dad again.
January 06, 2002 - Sami has been doing the army crawl for a while now. Today she actually crawled! She was on the hard wood floor during Sacrament Meeting in Logan and she just got on all fours and started crawling around.
January 07, 2002 - Sami clapped her hands together after we sang a song.
January 09, 2002 - Sami wants to be standing at all times now. She pulls herself up to everything and even stands in her crib.
January 10, 2002 - Sami loves to walk up and down the front of the couch while holding on to the side of it.
January 11, 2002 - Sami fell down the first few stairs today at Grandma Stokes house. She got a little bruise on her cheek.
January 12, 2002 - Grandma Slack came to town today to help out while mom has an operation. Sami was already used to her by the end of the day! We are so excited she is here.
January 13, 2002 - Mom won't be able to pick Sami up for two weeks after her operation tomorrow so she held Sami a lot today.
January 14, 2002 - Mom had her surgery today and it went really well. Sami stayed home with Grandma Slack and she was a very good little girl.
January 15, 2002 - Grandma Slack made her delicious cinnamon bread today. Sami just loves it!
January 16, 2002 - Sami loves Grandma Slack! She loves to play with her and fall asleep in her lap while watching television.
January 17, 2002 - Sami can sit down from a standing position now. We also went and saw Beauty and the Beast on a huge movie screen with Grandma Slack. Sami loved the first little while but then she fell asleep in Grandma Slack's arms.
January 18, 2002 - Today Sami starting to say the words "meow" and "arf". She says them very soft but it sounds great. She knows what open and close means now. Grandma Slack has a book that she loves to read. Whenever the man jumps out of the cannon Grandma says "boo" and Sami jumps every time then laughs.
January, 20, 2002 - Sami just loves to sing "I'm bringing home a baby bumble bee." She smacks her hands together and gets so excited! She also loves when Grandma Slack sings "How much is that doggy in the window" it has become her signature song with Sami.
January 21, 2002 - Today was Sami's nine month check up with Dr. Wall. She weighs 21 1bs 7 oz. and is 29 inches tall! She is a very healthy baby! It was great because she didn't have to get any shots at this check up!
January 23, 2002 - Sami loves to blow kisses when she is saying goodbye.
January 24, 2002 - Sami got a forward facing car seat today. She loves to see mom and dad when she rides in the car now. Grandma Slack is still here and helping out so much. Sami is so used to Grandma carrying her everywhere now. Mom is getting anxious to be able to handle things herself again. We have loved having Grandma here to help out. We are so grateful she was able to come!
January, 27, 2002 - Sami's two front teeth are finally poking through. It has been rough getting these teeth in.
January 28, 2002 - Sami is TEN MONTHS OLD today. Mom can finally lift her again.
January 29, 2002 - Today was a rough day. Sami threw herself off of the end of the couch and then she hung onto the bottom of the highchair and couldn't get herself down so she was crying most of the day. It has been really hard trying to get her back on a routine after not having one for two weeks. Sami hardly slept at all today so that definately made things worse.
January 31, 2002 - Sami loves to gasp whenever she sees anything neat. It is just adorable!
February 01, 2002 - It is getting much harder to go out to eat and to the movies with Sami. She doesn't like to sit still for five minutes especially in a new place. Tonight at dinner Sami was very rowdy and she would put her hands over her ears when we told her to stop and settle down.
February 04, 2002 - We didn't see Dad all day today because he has to work 12 hour days throughout the entire month of February for the Olympics. It's hard on Sami and Mom not to see him all day.
February 05, 2002 - Tonight mom and dad left Sami with John and Claudia Orgill while they went to a production at The Conference Center. Sami did good playing with Tyra(their daughter the same age as Sami.) They have a cat and it scratched Sami on the face. Other than that she did really well at her first babysitter outside of the family.
February 06, 2002 - Sami and Dad went and saw the Olympic torch run by at the Pony Express Trail. Then that night we all went to Logan and saw it with Heather, Jason and Jaylee. It was sooo cold! But it was a great experience.
February 07, 2002 - We came home from Logan at 3 A.M. because Sami just could not sleep. We had a bunch of friends over for lunch and Sami had a great time playing with all of them.
February 08, 2002 - Sami go sick and threw up for the first time today. Her face was totally green. It was hard to see her like that.
February 13, 2002 - Sami loves to have a binky in her mouth and one in her hand and switch them back and forth. She even does this while she is sleeping! She can get up onto the couch by herself now. She doesn't know how to get down by herself yet though.
February 15, 2002 - We went to the German House that was set up downtown to host the German Olympians. WE had a great time with the Orgill's there. They had a live band that was so loud! Sami loved the rotkohl that Dad got! A news camera filmed Dad with Sami on his chest in the Baby Bjourn. We never saw them on TV but it was fun being filmed!
February 17, 2002 - We babysat Bridger Thomsen tonight. We were at Grandpa and Grandma Stokes house for Family Home Evening. Bridger was so good. He hardly even cried. Even when Sami took his binky away.
February 18, 2002 - We went downtown to experience the Olympic atmosphere. I was a lot of fun. Sami met the coca cola bear!
February 19, 2002 - Sami is walking along the couch now. She pulls herself up to the highchair and pushes that all around so she can walk.
February 23, 2002 - Sami is starting to obey when we say "no, no" if when dad says "nein." She says "ahhh-oh" now too!
February 24, 2002 - Mom was flipping through the Tv channels really fast and she heard Sami say "woof-woof" so she turned back the channels and sure enough there was a doggy on one of the channels! What a smart girl!
February 28, 2002 - ELEVEN MONTHS OLD TODAY!!! We can hardly believe how big Sami is getting!
March 02, 2002 - Dad tried to discipline Sami today and she gave him a big hug and a kiss. He tried not to let it phase him but Sami continued to give him kisses. She knows how to get to Dad!!!
March 05, 2002 - It was 58 degrees outside today. We all loved the nice weather! Sami is definately getting spring fever!
March 06, 2002 - When we trick Sami and let go of her hands while she is standing she will stand alone for a couple of seconds. But as soon as she realizes it she sits right down.
March 07, 2002 - Sami drank 10 oz. of Vitamin D whole milk out of her sippy cup for the first time today! No more bottles!!! She also went to sleep by herself in her crib!
March 17, 2002 - Sami's favorite show is "Charlotte's Web". She cheers with all the people at the end and she stops when they stop.
March 18, 2002 - When Sami is done eating now she puts both her little hands upa and says "agone!" Just like mom usually does.
March 20, 2002 - Sami slept over at Grandma Stokes house for the first time. Mom and Dad celebrated their Five Year Wedding Anniversary at the Anniversary Inn. Grandma said Sami was a very good girl!
March 22, 2002 - Sami met a bunch of the Slack family at Shirley Smith's wedding at the Salt Lake Temple today. Rachel watched Sami while Mom and Dad were in the temple. She had fun walking around the temple and seeing all the pretty flowers and trees.
March 25, 2002 - We had an early birthday bash with all Sami's Aunts and Uncles and cousins on the Stokes side tonight. Sami took her first couple of steps when Brooke let her hands go. WE were all so surprised!
March 27, 2002 - Sami flew on an airplane for the first time today. WE were on our way to Houston to visit Grandpa and Grandma Slack. She fell asleep before the plane took off. She did really well just playing and sleeping for the 3 hour flight. Sami was so excited to see Grandpa and Grandma Slack! She went right to both of them. She loved their house and all the new toys there. It was like Disneyland for her!
March 28, 2002 - Sami turned ONE YEAR OLD today! We had a great day in Houston. WE went to Galveston Beach and Sami absolutely loved playing in the sand. She loved seeing all the seagulls flying over us. Sami got her very own chocolate cake to eat. She went crazy and ate a bunch of it with her hands. It made a huge mess but what great memories!!! It's been a wonderful year! We are so blessed to have Sami in our lives!
