"MONROE PRECINCT.

RICHARD L. DAVIS, farmer, P. 0. Beardstown ; is a native of Kentucky; born April 14, 1826; son of James B. and Elizabeth (Hawkins) Davis, natives of Virginia, parents of twelve children, Richard L. being the seventh child of the family, of whom four are deceased. His education was received in the schools of Monroe Precinct, and he has since been engaged in farming. He was married in Arenzville Precinct, this county, in October 1854 to Elizabeth Buck, born in Tennessee, Nov. 14, 1824, who bore him thirteen children: Joseph, Peter (deceased), Stephen, Mary E., Jasper J. (deceased), Richard (deceased), Jane, Sophia, Jacob, Annie, Andrew J., Richard and Emma. Mrs. Davis was a daughter of Jasper and Sophia Buck; her father was born in North Carolina in 1791, and died March 1, 1841; her mother, also born in North Carolina, in 1789, died in 1867. His second wife, Elizabeth; daughter of Edward * and Ellen Morrison, has born him three children, two of whom are deceased. Mr. Davis has filled the office of School Director. He is a supporter of the Democratic party.

*NOTE: Article above may have omitted Edward's last name (Buck). We think she was daughter of Edward Buck and Ellen Morrison. Newspaper obituary of Richard Lee Davis of 1904 indicates her name was Buck before they married if I read it correctly.

New information from Mrs Carol Orwig quoted here: To update you a little bit on what I have been working on that concerns the Davis Family. It was always kind of a mystery as to why Mary Eliza Buck was never mentioned as a family member of Jasper and Sophia Buck. Mary Eliza married Richard Lee Davis - When she died Richard married Elizabeth Buck, always assumed to be sisters. Wrong. When Jasper came to USA, two brothers came with him namely Stephen and John. It turns out to be that Mary E belonged to that Stephen born Oct. 2, 1788 in England: died Dec. 14, 1854 - married ?? Mary????. Jaspers father:
