I worked in Amsterdam for 3 months living in the Jordaan area. You
havent mentioned Pascha in De Wolken. Has practiaccally the same
menu as centrum at half the price and one of the best shops in dam, also
dude Paradox claerly is better than Barneysbreakfast bar. Good shout
on the Central and Grey Aera tho you bang on with those mate!
Peace and
love.
15/05/2007
Go out of the centrum and visitit somewhere like the 'Kashmiri
Lounge', good hash, good grass and good vibes. Just off of Overtoom.
18/01/2007
The Dampkring and Grey Area are deffently the best
coffee shops in dam, the largest seletion of weed iv ever seen.

Went over to amsterdam for my friends sons eighteenth birthday - he
had a real eye opener but thoroughly enjoyed his short stay.
Found a fantastic cafe in a side street off Damrak (right opposite
the Grasshopper), cheap, cheerful, excellent service - they
do an all day english breakfast but all the food tasted great....my
only complaint was that we hadn't found it earlier on in our stay.
Lots of cheap coffee shops in the red light area and many of the
little side streets and the hash is a lot cheaper than more popular
places like the Grasshopper.
Service in most of the shops was good and was ruined only by the odd
arrogant manner of a shopkeeper who obviously didn't like tourists.

I was in Amsterdam in September of 2005. I stopped in the Grey
Area coffee shop a few times. Everyone was very helpful and it
was a great experience. Meet many nice people in there and I am
returning again in March. It will be one of the shops I am sure to
visit again. Prices were right, people were nice, and the dope was
good. What more could you ask for?
Not a very big shop, but that’s why there are many of them to choose
from. This one worked for me.

Howdy Guys,
Thanks for all of your tips, they were very helpful for my first
time trip. I had a great time at the Abraxas coffee shop. I
visited about six shops but returned to Abraxas about four times.
Very nice and helpful staff to a 49 year old first time visitor.
The Bulldog next to the Sports Cafe (A great place to eat and
watch sports) was OK but was like a McDonalds or Senor Frogs.
(Smile)
Can't wait to go back!

Hey guys! Just came across your site and enjoyed the usefull info, i
got back from dam monday afternoon(16/8/04) and was just overwhelmed with the
experience, the place is totaly cool, laid back, and the people are very
friendly!
I was apprehensive at first, as i booked the flight first without having
accomodation first, so i was a little apprehensive to say the least! We got to
schipol airport at about 12:30 est(their time!!)and wen we got our luggage we
went straight to the tourist info desk, and asked for accomodation for 5
people(the weekend was my 30th birthday party, and what a party it was!!)and
eventually we sorted that out, and on to the train to dam square, we were
looking for "the Nadia hotel" Raadhuisstraat 51 1016dd amsterdam-holland".
We found it fairly easy, and couldn't fault the accomodation in any way, and
plan to stay there again on my next visit.
Once checked in, we headed straight to a coffee shop"Rockland"just down
from our hotel, where after studying the menu, decided on Northern Lights, wich
i gladly paid 14euro for, my mate purchased some Super Skunk, and we headed over
to skin up while my wife bought some coffies!
The weed was good, very good in my opinion, and so was the skunk, with the buzz
hitting both of us fairly quickly, and giving us both an instant "monged"
state!!
We moved about, had something to eat, went back to the hotel to freshen up, and
then hit the town later that nightending up in the "Grasshopper" where i
purchased some "Jack Herer", my mate getting "Bubblegum", I got a big bud, I
mean big, for 40euro, and duly skinned another superb joint. We stayed until we
were all(the 5 of us) severely stoned!!
This kind ofbehaviour went on all weekend, but here are some of my personal
highlites....
1-buying weed legally from a guy behind a counter, in a shop!
2-smoking weed legally, in a shop, with other people !
3-visiting madame tusauds off my face, an i mean off my face!!
4-visiting the cannabis museum 5-visiting the cannabis college-very informal!
6-the variety of cannabis on offer
7-the strength of the hash, in my opinion it was stronger than the weed,
especially the polum or super polum.
8-the red light district-what an eye opener that was!
9-the people-well friendly
10-everthing about amsterdam itself wich leaves me to say, on a final note, that
was my best birthday party ever, and i am definately going back, soon, real
soon, thanx for listenin, toke on!!

My wife and I went to Amsterdam in December 2003. Although
we are Texans, we are no strangers to the sacred herb, and feel that
we have some important input to make about the various
establishments. First, we visited the Bulldog. The service was
terrible. They were extremely rude, and even though we tried to be
polite, we were made fun of and ignored. We are not ugly Americans,
but were treated as such. The first herb we procured was the White
Widow. It was the equivalent to the shit I smoked back in my college
days over a decade ago. It was a nice buzz, but certainly was not
the intensity warned about in all the tourist journals. Since it was
only about 9 A.M., we went to the pancake shop next door to eat.
That was an excellent and accomodating establishmnet. We were jet
lagged and checked into our hotel, and chilled for the rest of the
day. Our second day, we first went to the Abraxas. They were
very polite and we obtained Hawaiin Ginger. This was a nice setting.
This herb was very smooth. The staff and surroundings were top
notch. Next we were off to Barney's; there, we decided to buy
the much lauded AK-47. Indeed, quite potent. My wife who has quite a
tolerance felt she had to take a fifteen minute nap. The
surroundings here were decent, and the staff was excellent. After my
wife awoke, we tripped on over to the Hunter's Bar. We
requested something sweet tasting, I forgot the name. It was not
ultra-potent, but it continued the steady buzz from the AK-47 blast.
We met some fellow Texans studying abroad. Overall, the Hunter's Bar
is very good. We then tripped from there to the red light district,
but that is another topic, for another website. The next day, we
slept most of the day (God, jet lag is a bitch). We then decided to
go to the Grey Area. I asked the guy at the counter what kind
of smoke did Willie Nelson toke up while visiting their
establishment. He said it was the Bubble Gum. We started smoking it
there after rolling a good sized fatty. After a few tokes, it was
apparent that our exit was the only thing from letting this lone
employee go home. So, we put it out and went Barney's where we
procured some hash. On our last day, we went to Tweedies,
since it was down the street from the hotel. They did not have much
of a selection, but the staff was nice and the place was roomy. We
bought some weed with the word Thai in it. It was very mild, but we
enjoyed the surroundings. I recommend going there if you are
visiting the museums or Vondel Park. From there we went to the De
Dampkring. This place was top-notch, a great selection with top
quality herb. I drank some beer too and spoke with some of the
locals. We talked about fishing, camping, and they kept asking if I
owned guns and if I like to hunt. I said yes to both, and they kept
asking about it, like it was some mysterious occurence. I expected
to get a negative reaction, but I didn't. They just wanted to know
details. I told them hunting and gun ownership in East Texas was as
normal, as sitting in this bar and smoking pot is to them. Well, we
enjoyed our stay. The only thing we will do different next time is
that we are going to fly first class and avoid The Bulldog. Thanks
for your attention.

Two brilliant coffee shops in dam i went to are the
Doors coffeeshop, right out of the station and about a five
minute walk. Small but friendly with good music and nice selection
of solids, mr scuff was my fave.
Second favorite was the Last water hole hidden round the
corner from the Stones coffee shop. There are 3 pool tables they
sell pints, bonus, and they have a crazy anti coke snorting device
in the bogs, wicked! Permanently stoned. Cheers

I just came back from a longer journey to
Holland. I stood at Zandvoort. Two Coffeeshops there that I
visited.
YANKS - big
coffeeshop, good quality weed and hash, prices a bit higher than elsewhere (but
not as in A'dam). Western Saloon Style, I liked the interior and the friendly
staff. However, I never stayed longer than a drink there.
LA PAZ - bar like
coffeeshop, very special interior, many TV's, good quality weed and hash, prices
same as Yanks. Friendly service and their prerolled joints are worth the price.
Nearly the best deal prerolled's I ever had when I compare price and high.
I travelled around and visited some other coffeeshops. One I really loved. I
spent hours there - I only could visit it one time. But I'll go back there!
It is the coffeeshop ANYTIME
at Bergerweg 24, 1815 AD Alkmaar, Netherlands If you want to visit
there prepare not to see it at first sight. I had to check with the housenumbers
until I found the door. Interior is very simple. The owner is very friendly and
has an excellent choice of weed and hash for the best prices I found. But beware
- this is an old hippie coffeeshop - nothinng fancy. But on the other side,
people told me that the prices for drinks remained unchanged since around 20
years!!! And if you pay the drink you believe it. The owners prerolled joints
are smaller than usual. They contain less tobacco, I loved them. He even sells
pure weed joints. I bought a Manali hash there that beated all the Nepal tempel
Balls and Super Skuffs etc. And the Northern light special - 100% biological -
was one of the finest weeds I ever had in my life - and I was at A'dam before
they had coffeeshops and smoked in Vondelpark, so I had quite a lot to compare.
You guess it - this was my wavelength. But even if you don't want to sit there
for hours, go there to have the quality! And have a toke from the big vaporizer,
that can be used in the corner of the bar! And if you buy more than a gram you
get free Papers and Filters.
Other coffeeshops:
Haarlem:
Willie Wortel Sinsemilla
- okay, part of a bigger bunch of shops. Goood quality, prices higher than at
Alkmaar or Arnhem.
The Thehuuis - very
big list of weeds and hash, small shop, prices same as others at Haarlem.
Maximilan - Quite
common shop, bought a very good Thai weed and a Afghani charras (often called
gold) for a price lower than the others at Harleem, and I got free Papers and
Filters. I was in three shops more at Haarlem, they were not special.
Arnhem:
Lucky Coffeeshop - I
spent hours there around New Year, good quality, good prices, good vibrations,
friendly and fair owner, not very crowded, really worth a visit. I recommend it.
Okay, hope you liked it, have a good time and bamboule!

Just got back from a week in Holland, mostly of course
Amsterdam. Visited the obvious choices - The Dampkring - Go there, I smoked the moonshine (hash/resin) expensive at 20.40 Euros per gram, but you dont need much (there are a couple of slightly cheaper 'cold pressed' grades of it which are great too) really;) Very pleasant.
The El Nino bud is really incredible too, I think about 12 Euros per gram.
The Greenhouse - Nice place, nice smoke. Got some Kali Mist again about 12 Euros p/g. Very strong high, put my head out a bit actually;)
AK47 (12 p/g)and some pollen (12 Euros .5 gram) from the BlueBird. Both very
sweet smokes.
And other wonders which I forget I'm soooo cained...

I do feel that there were not enough coffee shops mentioned down Haarlemerstraat (I think that's
how it's spelt). This is a great area of Amsterdam. The market is held there on weekends and there are
loads of coffee shops, and it's only a stone's throw from the central station. Me and my two friends
stayed in the Hotel Arrivee, which although being expensive had some great people working there. When you step ou of the hotel door, there are 2
coffee shops just over the road - Popeye's and Pink Floyd. Popeye's is brilliant, with really friendly
staff, and a great little area downstairs with chess boards etc. In the other, there is a really friendly
English guy, who seems to know his stuff. Another great thing about Haarlemestraat is that
there are so many places to eat. there are two Kaas -Brood shops and a really cheap Italian restaurant. Well that's about it really.

Hi good people. we wanted to reccomend all of you a great coffeshop in the center of Amsterdam, called
"Betty Boop". Betty is a rather small place with a warm atmosphere. they have a fair menu of all the usuals of amsterdam, that every coffeshop, including Betty, is trying to convince us it was the first to have it in Amsterdam. A very clean place, you can drink and have chocolate bars. there are several computers logged to the net, and a games machine that i completeley addicted to after the ninth or tenth jiont. did I mention their space cookies?
04/05/2001
Two things come to mind when I think of the coffee shop entitled 'Grey Area.' 1:
If there were coffee shops in america this is what it would be like (american
owners), 2: Best herb I smoked in Amsterdam (***personal opinion***). I smoke
AK-47, Double Bouble Gum, and the famous Grey Mist seprately in one of theyre
provided _glass_ bongs. Then I descided that I wasnt stoned enough (well I had
lost all sense of judgement by then), so I rolled an extra large spliff with the
3 strains entioned above (all mixed). Now, I must reinderate: DONT TRY THIS AT
HOME (only a.dam =).Other than having the hugest trip of my life (its amazing I
stayed awake), I was stoned for hours, and hours....and hours! It was smooth and
top quality. I expecialy like their American 1/8ths (3.5g), since it made me
feel right at home. Its the 4th of May and I am returning to A.dam on the 8th
just for Grey Area! it pays to be an American stoner living in london (80$ US
Plane tickets! Go KLM!). If you have a chance, and are by the dam, give em a
visit! They have a great map on their site to direct ya to theyre humble (and
extrmely nice..friendly etc) home in a.dam!

I
checked your page before my trip and made it to a couple of the coffee shops on
the your list. The GrassHopper was a nice place...Music was a little loud but
the variety was nice...
One of our favorites on the trip was Stone's Cafe. Nice variety of smoke and a
good place to hang out. Not to mention the toasted ham & cheese are great
when the munchies set in.
Prices are pretty cheap still...It was 12€/1.8-2.2grams. I did snap some pics
of the smoke we picked up and such. Also grabbed a menu from a little place
called the Double Reggea. If you would like I can send ya some of the pics and
feel free to post em on your site :)
23/01/2001
Thanks for making my holiday one to remember, I think
! I came across a coffee that you do not mention on your site but had a
great marijuana menu and a cool vibe Rusland codffeeshop on Ruslandstraat
just off the red light. Defiantly worth checking out next time your in the
dam.

molto psichedleico... stupendo!
18/12/2000
My favourite coffee shop was Blue Velvet because they were really cool
and there was this groovy white cat that slept on the counter all day. I think
the cat was called "Libo" or something but we got loads of pictures
and I got it on video too so we can keep that memory!

I have just returned from a 5 day business trip to Amsterdam. During
this trip my girlfriend and a friend of hers came to stay with me. We
visited a number of coffee shops, however the king of the coffee shops in
Amsterdam, mainly due to the staff and the entertainment (fussball, pool, TV and
fruit-machines) was, we felt, the Dolphins. The Dolphins is based on Kerk
Strasse near to the Leidseplein (Head back towards Dam Sq and take the 1st left
after the 2nd bridge). The gear here is good, the service is personal and
VERY friendly, just the nicest bunch:)
Another one worth mentioning has to be the Cafe De Kroon which is off a side
street near to the Damrak. This coffee shop has got no alcohol (a plus in
my books, particularly when the gear is this good!!) and a nice little seating
area upstairs where you can sit and have a fit of the giggles without getting
self conscious (ask my girlfriend).
I know that when I step off the plane again I will be into the Dolphins
for a calming smoke and a pint before I even check in!!
Enjoy, we did:)

I went to Amsterdam at the end of March 2000.
We only had one night there but we had so much fun and now we are planning our
second trip for a least a week. We visited two coffee shops 1) Extase was
great. There we had some really good space cake. We bought 3grams of
white widow and spoke it all in a day. That was some really good stuff and
I wish we had some now. 2) Grasshopper is the second place we visited and again
I really loved it, mushroom tea is pretty good, not as good as mushrooms but not
bad. We bought a really cool pipe from there and now I tell all my firends
who are going to try these places.

Ciao,
piu niente. Ho portato a casa 2g di WhiteTiger. L'ho provata
appena rientrato a casa.
Voto: 6.
Per niente buona, anzi, un bidone.

We did another long week-end in Amsterdam (also known as
our favourite place in the whole world) from Friday 4 June
through to Monday 7th. We went to loads of new places and visited
some old favourites:
Rasta Baby - close to the station. A sleepy sort
of reggae coffeeshop with a nice little greenhouse out the front
with wicker chairs. Be warned though that in this greenhouse
lives the fiercest grey tabby cat you will ever meet. He has a
permanent scowl on his face and drew blood when we went aaah what
a lovely pussy and all that. Bought some very nice Afghan hash
here but have forgotten whether it was a good deal or not. Can't
have been bad though. And we like mean cats with spirit.
Prix D'Ami - the find of the week-end. In a
little alley off the Damrak close to the station, this
place has live DJs mixing, groovy people, beer if you want it
(and we did), and a good selection of weed at giveaway prices. It
was also a lovely place early mornings when the music was more
mellow. We had many happy hours here and everyone was friendly.
Stones - on a corner on the Warmoestraat
(we think). Another friendly little coffeeshop with a constant
show going on outside. There's a charming view of a sexshop and
you get to see all the customers going in and coming out again
ten minutes later clutching their plastic bags, and there was a
traffic jam outside the night we were there with a car stuck
going the wrong way up the narrow street. This caused great
amusement inside Stones and all the smokers galvanised into life.
Nice beer and groovy house and garage music kept everyone rolling
alone nicely.
Extase - somewhere down the Damstraat.
A strictly-no alcohol coffeeshop run by a very friendly group of
middle-eastern gentlemen. The range of hash was breathtaking and
the advice on quality and origin was really good. We bought some
lovely Lebanese Red which kept us giggling for a day or so. A
real find.
Homegrown Fantasy on NZ Vorburgwaal. A
real favourite with us and was the place where we bought our
first bag of weed on our first visit to Amsterdam all
those years ago. So friendly, so cheap, nice cat, charming
barstaff who seem rather off the pace the whole time. Lovely. A
proper coffeshop.
Paradise - Damstraat near Dam
Square. We always go in here once on every trip, and every
visit is the same as the one before. It's like it's stuck in one
of those time-loops that they have on Star Trek. Great orange
juice (you could stand a spoon in it it's so thick), a perilous
climb to the toilet (actually it's the even more perilous descent
you have to worry about), unrelenting reggae music, friendly
efficient staff and the same people in there every time? Once in
here some years ago, we saw a middle aged European couple come
in, dressed smartly and looking obviously out of place. They sat
down and asked one of the staff something. He went off and
returned with two coffees and a bag of grass, and then rolled a
spliff for the woman. It was obviously her first ever smoke. Her
husband didn't smoke but she looked like she was curious to see
what it was all about. The Paradise was a good choice. Best not
to stick around too long as you might get caught in the time-loop
and be there forever ... sorry I'm getting carried away a bit
now. Probably time to stop and have a lie down.
Thanks for a jolly little website

Sono stato a Den Haag, 50 km da Amsterdam... il
coffe piu vicino a casa mia era THE POINT,
e i suoi coffeee....assegno al the Point VOTO 10!!!!!!!!!!

Too many people think the coffee shop scene
is limited only to Amsterdam and environs, whereas it
encompasses the entire country. I suggest you get out of the big
city and try some of the far reaches of the country. Maastrict
is unexpectedly pleasant. Breda was by far, my favorite
of all, if you get there check out the Paradise Milkshake
Bar, not a tourist to be seen!

Ciao
ormai saranno 6 anni che compio il mio solito
"pellegrinaggio" in Amsterdam.
Grazie ciao.

We spent a crazy New Year's Eve in Amsterdam and the best coffee
shops were:
1. Rokerij, close to the station on the end of
the Singel canal. Great mix of music - drum and bass one minute
and Jimi the next. Really friendly people - sound advice on the
grass the many varieties of which the proprietor has obvious
first hand knowledge and cool bar staff. There are very few
actual seats but here are plenty of cushions, benches and walls
to lean against. They sell beer as well and everything is so
cheap. Could have stayed here all week-end (and have spent many
happy hours here on previous trips) but the explorer must explore
deeper I suppose.
2. M&Ms, on Spuistraat. Again people so
friendly and so stoned that it's a joy to visit. Music can be
variable (and always seems to end up as "middle eastern
swirly music" but it's always a lively place. it was
particularly lively at midnight with new year cakes being passed
around by the owners who then ran out onto the street to
participate in the most disorganised but colourful firework show.
They sell beer.
3. Dolphins, just off the Liedsestraat I think.
This place is cool at any time of the day but early morning is
the best. The shopping channel has never seemed so interesting as
when shown on the TV at this coffee shop. I almost had to ring up
for the wonderful hair restrorer they were advertising until my
beloved pointed out that I don't actually need it. Again, cheap
prices, dancing barmen, a genuinely odd clientele and the
shopping channel all made for another memorable visit.
And there are so many more!
