BACKGROUND: Monica Frieder was born in St. Louis to a middle class family.  Things were tough but bearable and her parents always made sure she was provided for.  When she hit puberty her mutant power kicked in when she was singing at her glee club.  She wound up permanently damaging the hearing of four other children.  Her parents were sued and suddenly things went from bearable to terrible.  Her parents had to file for bankruptcy, they lost their house and her father began drinking.  By the time she was eighteen he had cirrhosis of the liver and needed a transplant.  Monica needed to get money for the operation and fast.  That was when she was approached by Amp and Flashpoint.  They had read about her power and thought she would fit in with their group.  Desperate, Monica agreed.  She became Acustyx and pulled several crimes.  Her cut of the cash earned her enough money to save her father, but by then she was in too deep.  The police knew who she was and were hunting her down.
 Over the years Monica has been in and out of The Hole.  Her current stretch is supposed to run her twenty years.  We’ll see.

PERSONALITY: Monica is not evil, simply caught in a vicious circle.  She has no appreciable skills so every time she gets out she is given menial labor jobs.  This embitters her and she remembers what it was like living the high life in those brief moments between serving sentences.  So she winds up committing crimes and soon she is back in prison.  Perhaps if she was given some more options she would quit the cycle, but no corporation wants her as a representative and only super villains seem to have a use for her.

POWERS/SKILLS:  Acustyx is able to generate powerful blasts of sonic energy from her mouth that can shatter glass, brick, and bone, and if concentrated even solid steel hinges.  She has refined her powers over the years so she can narrow the beam to only a few feet up to a hundred yards away.  Her skull and inner ears seem adapted to the power as she suffers no ill effect from their use.  In fact her ears are very acute and she can hear in ranges higher and lower than most people.

 Monica was taught some basic hand-to-hand but still relies heavily on her power.

APPEARANCE: Monica has light skin and dark hair, her looks are above average but she could look better if she could remove that expression of fatalistic acceptance.  She does not wear a costume, instead she wears functional clothing with a bullet proof vest underneath.
