Maximum Justice is dead.
Ambushed, almost all its members killed, the assailants had gotten away. The only person who could shed any light on the matter was the mysterious Annette, member of the Sargasso clan and the hero Grimoire's aunt. Once Annette's involvement in Maximum Justice's inception was known High Justice had been keeping an eye on the new super hero group, and when that group was destroyed they came looking for Annette.
She did not come quietly.
But Once she was captured by High Justice Annette was forced to confess her motivations for creating the group. Once High Justice heard the reason they realized that they would need to not only let Annette go but also help her create a new team of heroes to replace the one lost. Each member of High Justice examined dozens of candidates until they paired it down to seven:
The incredibly strong and durable Doctor Sampson-Havok-would provide the team with much-needed power and scientific expertise.
Trained at The Vatican, Paladin's knowledge of the occult, combined with his enchanted blade and armor would prove to be fine assets.
His years on the Motor City Police force had given Matthew Pathkiller skills that would prove to be invaluable to any team, but his heritage as a werebeast made Wolf doubly valued.
A hero's daughter seeking to make a name for herself, Sarah Griffith would provide the team with technical knowhow and as Valiant her protective shields.
Paragon seemed naive and unsuited to the harsh world he was thrust into, but everyone-hero and villain alike-would discover naivety did not equal foolishness, and the strength of his spirit was reflected in his gleaming force field.
Frostfyre was a contradiction, a fiery temper with a streak of cold ruthlessness. In a world of equally ruthless villains the group would need her fiery blasts and her chilling touch.
And finally, a team of neophytes would need a leader. Vortex, was chosen for his military background, unusual powers and his years of experience.
All seven were drawn together, and once assembled Maximum Justice's legal advisor Marion Bradley offered them an opportunity to become Motor City's new defenders they were interrupted by a call from the police. The Company of Wolves, thinking that Motor City was defenseless, was at that moment robbing a bank. It was beyond the police's ability to contain them.
Lucky for the police that there were now seven heroes in town ready for the job.
The seven, joined by the only surviving
member of Maximum Justice, Doctor Kinkaid, flew into downtown Motor City
and engaged the 'Wolves in combat. The battle was short and furious,
with three members captured and two escaped. Vortex and Valiant both
sustained injuries but overall the team did well on their first outing,
and the citizens of Motor City discovered they had new heroes to protect
them.
