REAL NAME: Sorcha Regan
AGE: 39
OCCUPATION: Owner of Regan’s Book Shoppe
AFFILIATIONS: High Justice
BACKGROUND: Born in Limerick, Sorcha was
the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter. She had a normal childhood,
insulated from much of the violence that plagued Northern Ireland, and
while her sisters grew up and got married, or went to college, or went
off to live in the United States, she settled on moving to Dublin to help
run her grandfather’s book store. She had developed a keen interest
in literature and went to school part time while she helped him with his
research. It was also about this time that he began teaching her
magic. At first she thought he was senile, but after a while she
actually began understanding what he was talking about! It was then
that he revealed her destiny. Every generation had a guardian to
protect the Earth from the another realm, one made up of the essence of
Man's dreams. Creatures inhabited this other realm, creatures anxious
to walk our Earth, and sometimes these creatures would find a breach that
allowed them to enter our world. These breaches were especially common
in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, hence a guardian was especially
needed here. He was that guardian, and as he grew older it was her
task to take over.
Her apprenticeship was harsh
but with his aid she learned what she needed to know. After a time
she became a public super hero when she intervened during a shooting between
British troops and IRA terrorists. She was able to end the altercation
without bloodshed, but the act allowed the IRA to escape. The Irish
branded her a hero while the British Army branded her a criminal.
Lionheart was asked to intervene and bring her in. Reluctantly she
took up the mission, but once she confronted The Morrigan (as she was now
being called in the press due to her raven-like tattered cloak and mastery
of birds) the British hero discovered she was not some IRA terrorist but
simply someone trying to prevent bloodshed. Lionheart decided to
turn a blind eye to anything The Morrigan did.
Over the years both heroes found
themselves helping one another. An unlikely friendship developed,
and eventually both found themselves part of High Justice.
PERSONALITY: Sorcha is an abrasive person who does
not get along well with others. Years of dealing with the terminal
stupidity of Catholics and Protestants-both British and Irish-has made
her bitter and cynical. She does not make friends easily or often
but when she does her friendships are lasting. Many consider her
relationship with Lionheart unusual, but their relationship goes beyond
political boundaries and they are the best of friends.
POWERS: The Morrigan is the guardian that stands
between our conscious reality and the dreamstuff that lurks beneath.
She has inherited various magical powers along with her charge to make
her a worthy guardian. The most common powers she has displayed have
been flight, physical resilience, super human strength (although nothing
nearly approaching someone like Lionheart), and the ability to pass between
shadows. When she dons her tattered black cloak she also dons a field
that reacts to the unconscious fears all men and women. People are
nervous around her, they react to her presence in an unconscious and negative
way that gives her a subtle edge. She is also able to call upon the
hidden dreams and fears of any person and manifest them, stunning them.
The Morrigan is also able to control flocks of birds, most notably ravens
and crows, and is able to see and communicate through them.
APPEARANCE: Sorcha is a handsome woman with reddish
blonde hair. As The Morrigan her hair turns bone white, her skin
takes on a deathly pallor and her eyes grow milky. She wears black
boots, a loose black costume for freedom of movement, black gloves and
a large tattered black cloak.
