Physical Description: Fiona is a pretty girl with short blonde hair and blue eyes. While she is not exactly an avid exerciser she is in decent physical shape and has an attractive figure.
As The Obsidian Girl her body is covered by an inky black substance that renders her face devoid of any features. The substance looks either matte black or glistens wetly depending on how she employs her powers. Fiona sometimes wears a hood.
History: It is tough living up to a legacy. It is even harder to live one down.
Seventeen years ago an unemployed coal miner named Rupert Fleming had been exposed to a cloud of experimental nano-machines let loose during a robbery. The Cavalier managed to collect the nano-bots using his force fields but many of them had already entered Rupert's body as well as several other passerbys. At first there seemed to be no ill effects, but several days later every person infected save for Rupert was dead, eaten from the inside by the 'bots. Rupert's body, for some reason, was able to act as a host for the 'bots. They gave him super powers.
At first Rupert tried to make the powers pay off for him in legitimate ways, but no company wanted him as a representative. Likewise his powers did not offer him many advantages in normal labor. Finally he turned to crime out of desperation.
Rupert turned out to be a surprisingly good super villian. He was fast and tough and had managed to fight off the likes of The Cavalier and Buzzer, and he was more than smart enough to always duck Lionheart. He also became addicted to the thrill of super villainy and would have continued except for one fateful day when riding a tube train an IRA bomb exploded. Rupert was fortunate in that he was in another car and was generally unscathed, but there were many hurt far behind him. He could have walked away or simply helped in human form, but he knew those people needed to be freed as soon as possible or they would die. Rupert transformed into The Obsidian Man and used his super strength to quickly clear debris and rescue those trapped. He saved lives that day.
And
he was finally caught.
The Cavalier and Lionheart showed up and saw what he had done. For this reason and for the fact that he had turned to crime to raise a family and had never harmed a soul, they testified at his trial. For this reason he was given a much lighter sentence. Rupert had prepared to write an auto-biography, go straight and find ways to use his powers legitimately with The Cavalier's help. But the nano-bots in his system finally broke down and they began to eat away at Rupert. He died a few months later.
Then his daughter was born and when she turned thirteen things got pretty strange for her. Her powers manifested during a typical playground brawl and she broke a girl's nose. Her mother would have been sued had not The Cavalier-now retired-intervened on her behalf. Years earlier he had gotten Rupert's widow a job and made sure the family was well cared for. When Fiona began manifesting her power now The Cavalier made sure she would not take the same hopeless road her father did.
But Fiona was a bitter child. She saw The Cavalier and Lionheart as the ones responsible for what had happened to her father, and as she grew up that bitterness turned into hate. A hate that was easily manipulated by Lord Dread, who recruited her for his new legion of young villains when she turned sixteen.
Dread's team fought The Dynamics and lost the first time. When they met again The Dynamics were being defeated but only due to Dread's team possessing superior numbers. It was then that Fiona experienced an epiphany. Kommodo was about to tear into an unconscious and helpless Echo, and The Obsidian Girl turned on her team mate, blind siding her and knocking her unconscious. She then helped the Other Dynamics, who rallied and defeated the rest of the villains.
The Obsidian Girl was taken into custody along with the rest. The Cavalier attempted to speak on her behalf, but Fiona bitterly rejected his help and was sent to prison with the rest.
Then someone sprung her...
Powers: The nano-bots that infected Fiona's father had passed down some of his powers into her, albeit without the cancerous side effects. Fiona Fleming has the ability to create an armored sheath over her body that affords her protection against physical attacks as well as radiation, pressure and tempurature extremes. The sheath is porus to allow her to breath so she is vulnerable to gas attacks and she still requires oxygen to survive.
Fiona can alter the friction of the sheath so it can become sticky enough to allow her to stick to ceilings and climb walls, and slick enough to wiggle out of any grip. She is still learning how to use her powers so she has difficulty altering the level of friction on different parts of her body.
Fiona can fire off bits of her sheath, hyper-charging them and creating a blast of energy from her fingertips.
Fiona has not inherited her Father's super strength, but the sheath is very tough and getting punched by her is like getting slugged by someone wearing a set of brass knuckles.
When matte black the sheath is excellent camoflage in deep shadow and darkness.
Skills: Fiona has taken journeyman courses in computer repair and mechanics.
Personality: Fiona is still trying to come
to grips with the fact that her father was a super villain. She views
her powers as something of a curse; as long as she has them she has a permanent
reminder of where she has come from. Yet the hell of it is use of
the powers is a thrill. Fiona is honestly not sure whether or not
she wants to be a super hero or villain but she has become aware that she
is not an evil person; she is not a killer and does not like hurting innocent
people at all. Basically she is a screwed up teenager who needs a
little guidance.
