Nintendo Roulette

NSider Roulette is a generalized version of the game show Russian Roulette, where players try to be the last person standing by proving their knowledge of Nintendo Trivia. Those who fail to correctly answer the question will have to face the Roulette & risk "dropping out" of the game.

Preparation

To prepare for this game, you'll need a couple sheets of paper, pen or pencil & a random number generator (like a calculator with a random integer function, a computer w/ a spreadsheet application or 5 standard [6-sided] playing dice). You will also have to know a good working knowledge of Nintendo Trivia. You may put the random number generator aside as you will not need it until the game starts.

First, think up & record around 60 or 150 questions with answers. You may choose to arrange the questions into rounds (5/6) or catagories (10 or so). Each Round/Catagory should have around 10 or more questions as it's possible that your players may be trivia expert. You will need to include multiple choices as the first two rounds are multiple choice. If you prefer to choose to arrange the questions into catagories, you will need to include multiple choices for all catagories.

Registration

Now that you're ready to run the game, it's now time to pick up players. You may choose to either have open registration OR post 6 registration questions (w/o multiple choice). The first 6 players to register or correctly answer 1 registration question. Once all 6 slots are filled, you may start the game.

Gameplay Rules

These are the standard gameplay rules that are normally used in the game, but you may make adjustments as you see fit. Please post the rules in the primary post in the game thread so everybody know the rules.

  1. Questions are displayed for everybody before the challenger chooses another player
  2. The challenger has 48 hours to post their choice OR the challenger will be forced to answer the question themselves.
  3. The challenged player (as selected by the challenger) will have 72 hours to post their answer. Failure to answer the question will be marked as wrong.
  4. Multiple choice will be available to the challenged player for the first 2 rounds.
  5. During the 5th round (2 players left), the challenger may choose to answer the question themselves OR give it to their opponent.
  6. Player may NOT EDIT their answer once it's posted. Any player who edits their answer will automatically be marked as wrong. If the challenger edits their choice, they will be forced to answer the question themself.
  7. All decisions by the Game OP are FINAL & cannot be contested.

If a player answers a question correctly...

  • The challenged player receives the current value of the question.
  • The challenged player becomes the challenger.
  • The drop rate increases by 1 (up to 6)
  • Game continues

If a player answers a question incorrectly...

  • The challenger takes all the stars from the challenged player
  • The challenged player faces THE ROULETTE
    • The Roulette spins the number of slots at the current drop rate (up to 6 slots)
    • If the player's slot number DOES NOT show up:
      • The player becomes the challenger
      • The drop rate increases by 1 (up to 6)
      • The game continues
    • If the player's slot number DOES show up:
      • The player is removed from the game (aka "Dropped Out") & the round ends
      • The drop rate returns to 1
      • The question value increases
      • The player with the lowest score becomes the starting challenger for the next round

In case there's a tie for the lowest score, the player who has been the most active in the game will become the challenger.

General Gameplay

At the start of the game, each player is given 1,000 's & the player to register becomes the challenger. If you are using catagories, the challenger gets to pick the catagory for that round. Give the challenger a choice from 4 catagories. If the challenger does not pick a catagory promptly (give 48 hours), then you pick a catagory at random. Again, as stated in the rules section, you post the question & ask the challenger who they want to challenge (feel free to make comments, pointing towards who they believe will fail at the question). Once the challenger has posted their "victim", you repost the question with the possible choices (during the first 2 rounds) & asked the challenged player to post their answer.

If the challenged player is correct, add the question value to their score & post another question with them as the challenger. If the challenger player is incorrect, they will have to face THE ROULETTE & you will have to use the random number generator to see if the player stays or goes. Just to make it simple in the explaination, I'll be using dice. Take the number of dice equaled to the drop rate (if the drop rate is 3, then use 3 dice) & roll them. Make sure that the values on the dice are ALL DIFFERENT & reroll any dice until this is achieved. Compare the value on the dice to the player list & check if the slot number of the challenge player is shown on the dice. If so, that player drops out of the game. In the event that the drop rate reaches 6 (the max in the game), the round goes to "Sudden Death" & the first player to incorrectly answer a question drops out of the game.

Once players have dropped out of the game, you replace that player's name & their score (which should be zero) with "---OPEN SLOT---". AT NO TIME SHALL ANY OF THE PLAYER CHANGE SLOT NUMBERS FOR THE DURATION OF THE GAME! The only exception is during the 6th & final round, which is the bonus round where the last standing player faces THE ROULETTE alone.

The question value is based on the round & must get progressively larger as the game proceeds. You can choose either a logarithmic or an incremential approach, but here's the rough idea on the question value per round (incremential / logarithmic)

  • Round 1 -- 1,000 's / 1,000 's
  • Round 2 -- 2,000 's / 1,200 's
  • Round 3 -- 3,000 's / 1,500 's
  • Round 4 -- 4,000 's / 2,000 's
  • Round 5 -- 5,000 's / 3,000 's

During the 6th Round (aka the Bonus round), the player decides how many of their hard-earned Stars they're willing to risk & they may choose which slot they would like to play on. There's 4 ways you can run this round:

  1. Simple Chance -- No questions, just the player vs. THE ROULETTE... which 1 less slot per bout (6 slots, 5 slots, ect.)
  2. Standard Chance -- Player vs. THE ROULETTE... one more drop zone per bout
  3. Simple Challenge -- Player gets asked 5 questions & surviving THE ROULETTE increases the drop rate
  4. Standard Challenge -- Player is asked 5 questions & the game runs as normal

Each time the player survives the bout, the Stars that they wagered are doubled (up to 32x their wager). However, if the player drops out in the bout, they lose all the Stars they wagered. The Player may choose to stop after any bout. This round will last no more than 5 bouts.
