Houston, TX - -Melanie Carter and Chris Lloyd led the TSU men's and women's track and field teams to a eighth place finish with 28(women) and 30(men) points at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Indoor Meet Friday night at the Bill Yeoman Field House at the University of Houston.
Carter finished first in the womens triple jump with a distance of 41-01.50 and Capricia Majors with the top finisher in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5 feet 2 ¼ inches for a third place finish.
Leondra Early was the top finisher for the Lady Tiger in the women’s 60 meter dash prelims (7.87 – 13th) and the 200 meter dash (26.83 – 10th). Brandi Sewell (60 meter – 8.20 – 19th) and Amber Laws (200 meter – 28.10 – 17th) were also top finishers.
The women's relay team (Krutricia Simon, Tremedia Bryce, Raquel Campbell, Jere Chambers) also finished second in the 4x400-meter with a time of 3:58.95.
Tremedia Brice posted a 5th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.05. Fellow runner Krutricia Simon came in 6th with a time of 59.26.
Other top finishers for the Lady Tigers were Racquel Campbell (800 meters – 2:28.19 6th), Demarris Williams (women’s long jump – 16-08.75 9th), and Charlotta Smith (shot put – 31-04.00 11th).
On the men’s side Chris Lloyd finished first in the mens 400 meter dash with a time of 48.44. Brandon Garner (50.45 – 6th) and Edward Brown (x50.46 – 7th) were the other two top finishers.
Chris Phillips qualified for the mens 60 meter dash with a prelim time of 6.90. He finished 2nd in the finals with a time of 6.86
Other top finishers on the mens team were Stephen Vaughn (long jump – 23-06 – 2nd), Kalan Lewis (high jump – 6-06 - 6th), and Shawn Jenkins(60 meter hurdles – 8.22 – 7th).
The Tigers with travel back to the University of Houston on January 19 for the Houston Indoor Invitational.
