Houston, TX -- Jere Chambers, Tremedia Brice, Brandon Garner and Chris Lloyd were all top finishers as the Flying Tigers Track and Field team competed at the University of Houston Indoor Invitational in the Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus on January 19, 2002.
The women received solid performances in most of the events, including the sprints and field events. In the relay events, Jere Chambers was one of the top performers placing first in her pool of the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.12.
In the 400 meter dash, Tremedia Brice (59.16), Krutricia Simon (1:00.28) and Caresha Scales((1:01.40) all finished first in their respective groups with Latisha Galloway (1:03.19 – 2nd) and Charmaine Gibson (1:04.97 – 3rd) also showing strong finishes. The women’s 4x400 relay earned a second place finish with a time of 3:58.77 and Latrice Wynne (2:31.76), Ruth Milor (2:35.74), Brandie Edwards (2:36.06) and Markeita Rhodes2:37.29) placed two-five in the 800 meter dash
In the field events, Melanie Carter placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 40-07. Other strong finishers were Damarris Williams (Long Jump – 16-07.75), and Capricia Majors (High Jump – 5-01.75).
Noeleene Harris was the top distance finisher placing second in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:33.33.
On the men’s side, Brandon Garner, Chris Lloyd, Vincent Butler and Edward Brown were the top finishers in the 400 meter dash event. Garner (50.19) and Brown (50.79) placed 1/3 in their group and Lloyd (48.40) and Butler (51.25) placed second in their pools.
The men’s 4x400 relay teams had strong showing their respective grouping finishing with times of 3:18.60 (1) and 3:36.53 (4). Shawn Bender (800 meter dash – 2:02.29 - 3) and Shawn Jenkins (60 meter hurdles – 8.20 - 6) were other top sprint finishers.
John Bullock (4:39.88) and Chauncey Hardy (4:59.06) were tops in the distance competitions, finishing 11 and 17 in the 1 mile run.
Stephen Vaughn and Brandon Smith were the top field event finishers in the Long Jump pools. Vaughn finished 9th in his grouping with a leap of 22-09.75 and Smith jumped 20-07.00 for a 12th place finish.
The Tigers with travel back to the University of Houston on February 2 for the Houston Run Sport All Comers.
