Echoes VidFic

[The scene opens with a young man stepping up to a mic.  He's blond, clearly caucasian, with blue eyes.  He's wearing black jeans, boots, a white t-shirt and a black leather jacket.  He picks up a guitar and signals to the three other people on the stage with him.  The music starts.  The camera drifts out to show various Japanese and American students clustered in groups.  A banner advertises "Welcome Tokyo 2000 Exchange Students" in both English and Japanese characters.  The boy begins singing.]

I don't know what I was thinking
'Til I was thinking of you

[The camera focuses on Kagome, standing alone and dressed in a blue dress.  She looks lonely and a little sad.  A flashback begins.]

I don't remember a thing before I opened my eyes
And you came into view

[Kagome opens her eyes to see Inuyasha up in a tree looking down at her.  He's been watching over her while she slept.]

I don't know what I was doing
When there was nothing to do

[Kagome smiles at him and asks if he's ready to go.  He nods and they pack up, heading into the forest.  She says that another Shikon Fragment is close and he pauses.  She asks what's wrong.]

Must've been waiting for someone, baby
Now I can see - I was waiting for you

[A shadow falls across their path, and Kikyo is revealed to be standing in front of them.  She raises her bow and takes aim at Inuyasha.  Kagome points to the Shikon fragment Kikyo is wearing on a pendant around her neck..]

Chorus:
[The scene switches back to the dance.  The boy on the guitar is in focus again.]

I'd give up my sight just to see you
I'd beg, I would borrow and steal

[He opens his eyes and looks down at Kagome.  He misses a chord on the guitar, but no one seems to notice.]

I'd cut off my hands just to touch you

[He fumbles, getting back his rhythm.  He smiles at Kagome.]

And tear out my heart so you'd know how I feel

[Kagome looks behind her, and then back at him with a 'who me?' look on her face.]

There's nowhere that I wouldn't follow

[He nods and smiles at her.  She looks away.]

There's nothing that I wouldn't do

[He frowns, a hurt look in his eyes, but keeps singing.]

Because I wouldn't wanna be me
If I didn't have you

[At the word 'you' he gestures to Kagome.  A few girls beside her give her envious looks, but she continues to ignore him.]
 

Driving myself to distraction
Until you got in my way

[Kagome drifts back into her flashback. She once again stands behind Inuyasha opposite Kikyo in the forest.]

I was just whistling Dixie 'til you struck up the band
And they starter to play

[Kikyo fires an arrow and it misses, Inuyasha charges at her, drawing the Tetsusaiga.  Kagome cries out for him to be careful.]

I don't know how I was living
Until you came into my life

[The Tetsusaiga sinks in Kikyo, and she falls to the ground.  Inuyasha claims the Shikon fragment around her neck, and turns back to Kagome.  He smiles as he hands it to her.]

I always knew something was wrong
Then you came along
Baby, you made it right

[Kagome places the fragment with the rest of the jewel and it completes it.  She looks up at him and smiles, he smiles back down at her.  She pushes the jewel into his hands and asks him what he's going to wish for.]

Chorus:

[The scene switches back to show the band.  The boy is still watching Kagome as he sings.]

I'd give up my sight just to see you

[A couple girls behind Kagome give her dirty looks and ask each other 'what's wrong with her?']

I'd cut off my hands just to touch you
And tear out my heart so you'd know how I feel

[Kagome frowns, still lost in her dream world, oblivious to what's occurring around her.]

There's nowhere that I wouldn't follow
There's nothing that I wouldn't do

[One of the girls remarks that she'd die to have *him* look at her that way.  Her friend wonders what's so appealing about Kagome anyway.]

Because I wouldn't wanna be me
If I didn't have you

[Again the boy gestures to Kagome as he sings the last line.  The drummer gives him an odd look, but the boy doesn't appear to have caught it.  Kagome hugs her arms around herself.]

I was alone in the silence
'Til I was hearing your voice

[Back in the flashback, Inuyasha wishes to become human.  His claws, fangs, and ears disappear and he and Kagome embrace.  She starts to cry tears of joy.]

I couldn't see my way clear until you parted the clouds
And you gave me a choice

[Kikyo rises behind the two, and shoots an arrow into Inuyasha's back.  She then tumbles back to the ground.  The arrow pierces Inuyasha's heart, and he falls forward into Kagome's arms.  They tumble to the ground and stare at Kikyo.]

I couldn't pick up the pieces
'Til I was falling apart

[Inuyasha swears at Kikyo, and she tells him that revenge is hers.  She promises to see him in hell,  and that with their karma they'll be spending a long time there.  She smiles sadly and dies.]

I didn't know I was bleeding
'Til your love fixed this hole, baby, here in my heart

[Clutching at Inuyasha, Kagome begs for him to hang on, saying that everything will be all right.  He laughs shakily and tells her that he's going to die.]

I'd give up my sight to see you

[Kagome weeps, telling him that things will be okay, but something in her eyes says that she knows it's a lie.]

I'd beg, I would borrow and steal

[Inuyasha coughs and tells her to keep the Shikon Jewel so she can always remember him.  Kagome cries and tells him that he can't die on her.]

I'd cut off my hands just to hold you

[Kagome continues to cry, and Inuyasha asks if she'll put him on her lap. She places his head on her lap.]

And tear out my heart so you'd know how I feel

[Inuyasha smiles weakly at her and tells her that she smells nice.]

There's nowhere that I wouldn't follow

[Kikyo's dying words of how Inuyasha's karma will damn him to hell forever echo back to Kagome.]

There's no place that I'd rather be

[Inuyasha lies against Kagome, a weak smile on his face.]

This life without you would be hollow

[Kagome touches his face, caressing his cheek.]

This love is a gift, and you gave it to me

[He pushes the Shikon jewel into her hands.]

And baby, I know that it's true

[Kagome takes it and he tries to speak.  She leans in closer so she can hear.]

I'd give it all up in a heartbeat

[Inuyasha promises that he will find her again, no matter what it takes.]

Just to spend every moment with you

[His breathing slows, and then stops.  He dies.  Kagome bursts into tears and sobs on his chest.
The scene returns to the present.  Kagome looks around, and covers her face, ashamed that she's started to cry again.]

There's no place that I wouldn't follow

[The two girls behind her stop looking scornful and ask if she's all right.  She waves them off, and turns, running from the room.  The boy follows Kagome with his eyes as she flees from the room.  As soon as he's finished his line, he jumps down from the stage and takes off after her.  The music abruptly halts, and the other band members stare after him in confusion.]

There's nothing that I wouldn't do

[Outside in the hallway, Kagome breaks down on a chair.  The boy comes out of the door and sees her crying.  He hesitates, looks like he might just turn around, and then shakes his head and goes to sit beside her.]

'Cause I wouldn't want to be me

[As he reaches out to ask her what's wrong the camera shifts to show the reflection of the two in a mirror across from them.]

If I didn't have you

[In the mirror reflection the boy is Inuyasha.]
