Name: Aisling Kern Xylia
Pronunciation of Name: Ash-leeng Kern Zy-lee-a
Meaning of Name: Aisling - Vision - Irish Gaelic
Kern - Dark Haired Child - Celtic/Gaelic
Xylia - Of The Forest - Greek
So roughly, her name can be "Vision of the Forest" or "Dark haired
child of the forest)
Age: 10
Birthday: 3rd Dasha (There is another reason it is on the equinox...)
Place of Birth: Burind forest
Likes: Sparklies, trees, big kitties, rhyming words
Dislikes: FIRE, tall mountains and loud travelers who scare the birds away...
Hobbies: Climbing trees, throwing rocks at unsuspecting travelers who happen to walk through her woods, Running and laughing aimlessly.
Occupation: Faux forest nymph/imp/demon/non-human entity
Physical Attributes: Aisling has black, waist length hair, which is usually down, but kept in whatever style she can muster. It is fairly coarse, but still vibrant and shiny. She brushes it daily, then plays with the hair that comes out, sometimes wrapping the entire strand around her brush. Standing at 4'4", she is short compared to the people around her. When people come through the forest, she makes brief and shadowy appearances, hence the occupation of nymph and imp. She has tanned skin from running around outside, and is fairly toned for a child. Her eyes are a deep dark ruby red, and only manage to add to her intangible imp-like cuteness, no matter how penetrating they may be. Yes, though verging on becoming adult, she is still a smiling child. What Aisling lacks in sheer strength and weapons skills, she makes up for in impeccable flexibility, balance and speed. She isn't superhuman, but the balance lets her dash through treacherous spaces faster than most, and her small size, yet powerful legs let her move at around 26-30 mph. Her years of living in the forest have forced her to wear only what Nanoven has given her. Her top is a loose fitting forest green colored tank top which reveals most of her abs and hangs into a V over her chest. Her skirt is the same color as her shirt, and also loose. It is down to mid-thigh and loosely pleated. There is an X of dark red ribbon across her stomach connecting her top to her skirt. On the back of the skirt is a semi-transparent bow with short tails and a large pointed bow part. On her wrists are two thin parallel red bands, of something harder than wood, but softer than metal. Around the back of her head, right above her ear, there is a black band with three large, oval, emerald-like stones. Her shoes are forest green, and are like ankle high boots, with no heel. They have two x's of the red ribbon up to her knees. There is a silver chain hanging down to her chest around her neck. If she is going to be out and about in public or in some meeting, she has a dark grey dress that comes down to her mid-thigh. Is has cuffs and a high collar. There is only one button, which is on her upper right chest and is silver. She wears knee high dark-green shiny boots, this time with a 2 inch heel. Aisling also wears an inch-wide shiny green belt and light grey wrapped gloves (they are like bandages up to her elbow) There is a red lining around the bottom of the skirt, the cuffs, around her neck, down to the shoulder/sleeve seam and down the opening of the outfit.
Personality: Aisling is very childlike, being quite impatient and getting irritated
at small things. That's not all, of course. Being that she is only ten, and
spends most of her time running around throwing things at people, she lacks
social skills and tact. Even when somebody manages to catch her after she stole
some food from their camp, and tries to talk to her sensibly, she'll play rhyming
games with whatever they say, while staring up into space. Getting angry with
her does people no good either. She'll just flip away, laughing and trying to
get to play a game of tag. Her tendency to steal food and cause general mischief
in the woods has caused travelers to refer to her as the elf, imp, demon and
nymph that haunts the Burind forests. She doesn't think of anything she does
as bad, unless someone tells her otherwise. Then, she'll put on a sad face and
pout innocently while apologizing. Sometimes, if the person reprimanding her
isn't someone she likes, she'll make faces at them, but if Nanoven or some other
respected character tells her something is bad, she pays attention.
She is 100% set on believing she is doing the right thing if "Nannyven
tells her so". She tries much harder to pronounce his name when he's listening
to her, but everywhere he's not, and when she is angry, it's Nannyven. If Nanoven
hates you, the so does Aisling. If you disagree with Aisling, then you're an
em-nem-ny. This may make you think she hates all people, but just because she
throws rocks at your head doesn't mean she hates you. If a person pursues her,
or nags her to do something, then she may become annoyed. Further irritation
causes hate. SHe has a loose sense of enemy and friend. Even someone on the
same team may be her "enemy." If Nanoven told her not to mess with
them she won't. But is she randomly meets a Gifted on the streets, and she can
sense their Spark, she may still want to be friends, just because they can be
fun to be with.
She is also very persistent, even if it takes her awhile to try again. All right,
she is stubborn as heck. ("Aisling, that is the 879th time you've tried
to make the color red." "I refuse to believe it is a primary color!
I WILL FIND THE ANSWER! AHAHA!" Umm, yeah.. sort of like that... that is
also demonstrating her childishness...) Just because someone tells her something
is impossible, doesn't mean she isn't going to try it. A challenge is fun for
her, at least for awhile. After awhile, if she doesn't need to do whatever it
is she's trying, she'll lose interest and walk away. Aisling doesn't think about
how to conquer the challenge, she does whatever she is thinking at the moment.
This means that she has never developed planning skills, and personally doesn't
care to.
With such an adorable little child, why in the world would Nanoven want her?
All-out psychosis? Why yes, now that you mention it! Aisling's seemingly childlike
ways conceal an energy inside with great power. She is brimming with magical
promise and enjoys watching pain and suffering. No vegetarian forest dweller
here! She kills all her own food, and eats all that she can. Make her angry,
and the powers that she hasn't learned to control can show themselves, destroying
parts of the forest. Her fear of watching death or suffering is nonexistent,
and she can sometimes be very sadistic, mostly towards small creatures, and
rarely humans. It is a stripe in her that comes out when it feels like it, then
fades back into her childish self.
People first see Aisling as a cute little girl, maybe a troublemaker who needs
a home in a populated town with a family and friends. However, get to know her,
and they find that she is twisted and deeply scarred with evil desires and plans.
They treat her as she acts, most starting with "Aww, she's a cute 'ittle
kid," and moving to, "Ahhh! Get her away, I'm too young to die,"
sort of thing. However, Nanoven treats her like a little child, maybe like a
grandchild, if you will. Many people who are just generally mean or evil often
take a shine to her 'cause, "She's just so cute when she's being evil!"
History: First off, for some time in this history, I will call her Aisling.
There is no evidence of what her birth name is, so I just call her Aisling,
until someone else gives her a name...
Aisling's family is one of many generations of nomads. Not desert wandering
nomads, but they never stayed in one place long. Can't say there were a lot
of children in the band, most died within the first move. Since they lived in
many old and abandoned buildings, Aisling's parents noticed strange occurrences
in their three year old daughter's behavior. She began to show oddities, both
in personality and in general person. First, her parents began to realize that
there were certain places during their travels where Aisling's personality would
change. Sometimes, she'd get very scared and quiet, and then she'd be more up
than they had seen her, like she was playing with someone. Eventually, they
asked her what was happening. She sat down and explained the fact that sometimes,
she'd be in a spot where a scary shadow would throw things or shake things or
other spots where a little girl would play ball with her. She described a few
spots, including a place where a man kept grabbing his chest and falling over
and a place where there were a lot of children all playing together. The next
time they reached the spot where Aisling had seen the murder, her father asked
the leader of the group if anything happened in the spot. He reacted in surprise,
then told him that the cottage and surrounding area was told to be haunted by
a torn soul who was stabbed by a rapier through his chest. When asked how he
knew, Aisling's father explained about Aisling's visions, and there was a sudden
freeze in the movement of the nomads. Some believed she was gift from the gods,
and others thought she was an evil temptress sent to destroy the group. One
night, while every one slept, a group of three religious fanatics abducted Aisling
and threw her into the forest. When her parents found her gone, the fanatics
told them that the gods must have sent a lion to take the evil from their midst.
Being good little religious drones, her parents accepted it. Aisling, only 4,
became crazed after a few days from lack of food and water. Just when she was
going to die it seemed, a large white tiger appeared through the trees. Chanting
"kitty", she fell over, and the cat came over and picked her up in
it's teeth. It carried her to a small secluded temple carved in the mountain
wall. A gruff looking man named Ganit took care of her and revived her. Her
taught her to read and write. She couldn't remember her name, so Ganit taught
her a language similar to Hebrew and let her name herself Ilana Eilat, meaning
"Tree Grove Of Tall Trees." (hey she's a kid, what d' you want?).
Ganit was someone who had worked on the temple for Nanoven, and was still devout
to him. He had been cast out because his fellow workers who survived hated the
fact that an ally was siding with the evil god. Ganit became a recluse, living
in the forest and adopting the tiger. He taught Ilana, as she was now called,
to hunt and survive in the forest, and she took to it well. He also tried to
teach her to use some of the energy and magic that she might be capable of using,
and managed to teach her a few small spells such as a spark for fire, and how
to find water. When Ilana was 8, Ganit took sick, and even as Ilana gave him
herbs, he descended into death, leaving her with the tiger, now named Ganit
II. She began to live alone, stealing food and other goods from forest travelers
and campers. She became wild and untamed, and she loved it. She killed when
she had to, and never cared. When Nanoven came to her, and told her that she
was destined to be a Zodiac Chosen, she was ecstatic since she was now being
given permission to kill without guilt, and she'd have power, and she'd get
to travel, and play with things, and, and, and... He gave her knowledge of more
of her powers, changed her name to Aisling Kern Xylia, and then left her again,
telling her he would call for her when she was needed.
One cooler day, a wandering group of nomads came to drink from the spring outside
of the hidden temple. When Aisling stepped from the trees, the nomads went into
an uproar, screaming that the gods were sending them a warning about some evil
yet to come. Two nomads looked very famil(y)iar, and they were the only ones
to just stare at her and not run away into the forest screaming. Eventually,
most the nomads who had disappeared into the forest were found by Aisling on
her daily excursion into the forest. Most were dead or near so, but she didn't
seem to care at all. The two nomads who had stayed were killed when she let
Ganit II play with them. She then waited for Nanoven to call for her, and when
he did, she was willing to leave her forest sanctuary to do his bidding.
NPCs: Ganit - Former Nanoven follower who discovered the slightly crazed Aisling after being kidnapped from her parents. A small time magic user, he raised Aisling until she was 8, never forcing her to become mature. He died of food poisoning from improperly prepared food that HE MADE!!! Aisling never took sick, perhaps because she didn't like the smell and cooked it black.
Ganit II - A white tiger, probably from the Aquivan nation. He generally hangs around the temple where Aisling was, and lets Aisling play with him. He is self sufficient, though he wouldn't object to free food. He will chase you, unless Aisling yells at him. He acts as sort of the temple's guardian, not letting any but the most trusted people in. Any friend of Aisling's is a friend of his.
2. Zodiac Chosen Section
Sign: Dasha. Aisling becomes Dasha when she starts to use her energy. The only physical difference is that her eyes start glowing red instead of just being penetrating.
Attack(s):
Sylvan Wooden Slash! - Dasha giggles and starts dashing around like a maniac
in a circle at an insanely fast speed. She pauses slightly, yelling Sylvan and
crossing her arms (left arm on top) while leaning in a running pose. Her head
is tilted and touching her left hand, looking generally cute. Her hands were
clenched, but now she opens them until her hands are wide open. Dasha yells
Wooden, and completely stops. Her open hands, palms towards herself, appear
to have palm size wooden balls in them, but they are glowing green. She yells
Slash and throws her arms open like she wants a big hug. The oversized glowing
cedar balls split into a random number of slightly smaller balls, anywhere from
6 to 12, and when they hit the ground (usually in front of the enemy) they explode
into a storm of razor sharp leaves which cut victims and create a sort of screen
which inhibits the vision between Dasha and her victim. This is the only damaging
version of this attack, but she does another variation. It is a distraction,
she throws the two balls, but they just land in front of the person and they
open with a jack in the box popping out, tongue out and laughing. She thinks
it's funny, and has usually left while the person is looking confusedly at the
balls. Once the balls have landed, the leaves are hard to dodge. Fire or ice
is usually the best choice, either incinerate the leaves or freeze them where
they are. If the balls are sliced open in mid air, the leaves are released early,
however, only two balls worth of leaves are released. If they are knocked away,
once they hit the ground, they just disintegrate into a pile of harmless leaves.
Don't try knocking them with your hands unless you want the feeling of hardwood
flung at high speeds against your knuckles.
Green Orb Evacuation - Dasha's way of removing a Spark of Creation from her
victim. After identifying a victim by her spirit sight, she follows them for
as long as she wants. When she has a clear shot at them, she begins bouncing
a transparent green ball about volleyball size against the ground. She chants
Green Orb, and the ball bounces faster and faster from her hand to the ground,
glowing green. She catches it between her hands and throws it yelling evacuation.
It flies extremely quickly toward the victim, and if it hits, the ball goes
through the person, trapping the spark inside it and then comes out the other
side and lands eventually. The spark can be removed from the ball by anyone,
so she tries to hurry over to it. The ball is fairly hard to dodge, and you
can't grab it since it would just go through your hands and then your chest
and take your spark.
Special Skills: Spirit sight: Seeing ghosts and other independent energies. Aisling sees two things with this, ghosts/spirits and defined auras. When a person is in touch with their Spark of Creation, they develop a distinct aura. Aisling uses a form of spirit sight to locate particularly bright Sparks of Creation. Basically, she might happen to catch a glimpse of really shimmering silver light in a person's aura, and she thinks, "ooh, pretty... must get sparkly..." As for ghosts or spirits, I'll explain the difference. Ghosts are left by a person's "soul" that is left behind when it dies. Most of the time, they have unfinished business or are in limbo. Spirits are NOT DRINKS but impressions of strong emotions, happy, terrified or otherwise. Most spirits are negative, and can occasionally cause poltergeists, but happy times and children do happen.
Weapon: This staff of green emerald-like stuff that Ganit was carried. She can spin it, and smack stuff, but other than that, it just looks nice for a Chosen to have.

4. Writing Sample
"Whee-hee-hee!" Aisling jumped down from the tree, running like a
sprite through the dense wood. She could hear someone crashing through the brush
behind her, yelling and screaming. "Can't catch me, not in trees!"
"Get back here, you infernal elf!" The furious tone of the man carried
through the forest, terrifying the birds into taking flight. The traveler's
morning meal had been interrupted when an impish child had taken some of his
meat, and dashed off into the woods. Chasing her down, he began to get a touch
tired.
"Get back here, big big ear! Infernal elf, broken shelf!" chortled
the sprinting creature. Quickly, and in perfect contentment, Aisling headed
towards her home and sanctuary. The pursuer was falling behind, and she slowed
in her dash, allowing him to catch up a little bit. The trees in front of her
began to thin, and she dodged to the left as the unfortunate traveler made a
grab for her. The leaves were not up to his fiber content apparently, as he
rose to his feet and resumed his pursuit. To him, the forest was merely a blur
of green in streaks of shades, but Aisling saw every tree, and made note of
which direction she needed to travel. Before the wayfarer knew where he was,
the forest ended in a wide-open field with a large stone structure against the
Burindhi cliffs. The small nymph-like girl was crawling up a massive chair,
at the apex of which an immense white tiger lay.
"H-hey! Girl, don't go up there! There's a tiger!" His words seemed
in vain as the child climbed into the seat, and proceeded to nudge the tiger
out of its seat.
"Ganit! MOVE! I wanna sit here! You go play with that guy!" Ganit
rose, stretched and jumped to the colossal arm of the chair. "Good kitty!
Silly neko-baka!" As she sat down, she stroked the cat's large head.
"Do you live here forest nymph?" The man took his hat off reverently,
as his parents had told him to do in the presence of power. But the Aisling
only looked around behind her.
"Nope nope nope! No nymphs here. But I'm Aisling! What's your name?"
She leaned forward, elbows on her knees, and her feet waving ten feet above
the floor of the clearing.
"Po'ino. And if you are no nymph, than will you return my ham?" Aisling
looked up at the cloudy sky, and sighed.
"Mmm, nope!" Po'ino frowned, and put his hat back on.
"Child, surely your parents will provide you with food of your own. Let
a traveler have his stores."
"NO! I have no parents, so this is my food!" She stuck her tongue
out long and hard at Po'ino, who growled.
"Perhaps I can take you to the city so you can have all the food you want,
girl. Now be a good little child and give my ham back!" Po'ino, obviously
short of temper and brains, began to advance on the tall pedestal chair.
"No ham, stupid man! No city, get him kitty!" Aisling rose to stand
in the chair as the man climbed the chair, though at a much slower rate than
she had. Ganit rose and stretched, then leapt down on top of the man, claws
extended. Po'ino had no inkling of the danger, and only realized that a tiger
was upon him as the claws tore through his shoulder and took him to the ground.
With vicious efficiency, Ganit tore apart Po'ino, as Aisling watched amusedly
from her chair. Once Ganit lost interest in the dead body, she jumped down,
petted him, and kneeling next to him, hugged his neck.
"Let's go to his camp! I wanna find sparklies!" She skipped off into
the woods, Ganit following behind, like some animalistic guard for a sylvan
princess.
Reasons-
Why...
Aisling? Aislynn's the same thing?
Sounded more foreign, something closer to what a God might say.
The 3rd? Cliche isn't it?
Yes, but in numerology, the 3rd also symbolizes a happy go lucky person who
has a tendency to overdo the happy thing.
Ganit?
"Defender" in an unknown language
Spirit Sight?
I needed reasons for her to be abandoned, and I needed a way for her to find
sparks (capitalized?)
Has Aisling ever tried to make the color red?
No, although she considered it, but never stole any paints to try.
Po'ino?
"Unfortunate" in Hawai'ian
