Indian Hut
In New Jersey tribes, men did almost all hunting, however women occasionally hunted birds and frequently helped butchers. Women generally did more fishing rather than hunting. The gathering of wild plant foods was largely a task for women, but men helped in areas where plants were vital or where tree climbing was required. Farming was mainly the work of women, with men concentrating on hunting, fishing, and fighting. Women normally did the cooking and also the bulk of the processing of food short of cooking.
When a hunter brought back one or many species, he usually shared it with other families in the community if they were in need. Many families were often related by blood or marriage, unrelated members of the same community was treated in the same way.
