Lesson Topic:
Geography of the Native Americans
Learner Outcome: Students
will be able to recognize existence of many Native American’s tribes throughout
this country.
Lesson Development: At
first, we will review many theories of migration of pre-historic Indians
to this continent. We will discuss existence of many pre-historic Native
American tribes throughout this country. Focusing primary on the west,
east and mid-west regions. We will discuss the relationships among different
tribes. Other main objectives of this lesson will be the adaptation of
Native Americans to their geographic locations- what they eat, use of tools,
clothing, and touch little on their religious beliefs.
NJ Core Curriculum Standards: * Standard 6.5: All students will acquire historical understanding of varying cultures throughout the history of New Jersey, the Unites States, and the world. * Standard 6.8: All students will acquire geographical understanding by studying human systems in geography. * Standard 6.9: All students will acquire geographical understanding by studying the environment and society. Materials Used: Textbooks, video, web pages, and over-head projector. Lesson Follow-up: After this lesson, students will view The Last of the Mohegans. By showing this movie, students will have better grasps on the living conditions of many Native American tribes. I want students to use visual aid as an another option to learning. Students will link what they have read from the textbook to a visual assistance. During the movie, students will critique the main objectives of the movie. Students will list Mohegan tribes’ lifestyles- major aspects that were taught during the lesson. This list will be used in open notebook test later on of the course. |
