Great Books About Women

While searching for a gift for my best friend, Kris (Happy Birthday you old person!), I came across a book called Uppity Women of Medieval Times.  Hmmm . . . Intriguing title.  Then I searched by the author, and found other "Uppity" books.  Check out my reviews below!

Uppity Women of Ancient Times is a refreshing book that chronicles the lives of women who refused to follow the rules.  I cannot imagine the amount of research conducted to unearth these women, from glorious rulers to servants.  Each tale is less than two pages, so it is easy to read a little at a time if you are busy.  I wish I'd had history books like this in school!!  I loved all the tidbits of info, such as the fact that the famous Cleopatra was actually Cleopatra the Seventh!

Uppity Women of Medieval Times was as delightful to read as the previous book.  Great little stories about women who defied men and their rules, as well as a few martyrs and accused witches.  I also loved this book and highly recommend it for anyone!  I even shared some of the tales with my children.

Uppity Women of the Renaissance was written in the same vein as the first two books and is also a great read.  The book does not dwell on the more famous rebellious women of the time, like Queen Elizabeth or her ill-fated mother, and includes an astonishing number of tales of uppity women.

I thoroughly enjoyed each uppity book I read, and hope you check them out and give them the attention they deserve.  I hope Vicki Leon can unearth uppity women from more eras and share their stories with us!  Send me your questions or comments via E-mail!
