Dream Street

A poem by Phillip Hayes
I sat myself down to rest
  And fell deep into sleep.
I dreamed I was alone
On a cold and empty street.

I peered into the darkness
  On this strangely empty street,
Hoping I could see something,
  Hoping for someone to meet

I wandered lost and aimless,
  Not knowing where to go.
The empty buildings told me
There was something I should know.

Stark and bare the street it was,
I wondered what it all could mean.
Then the street sign I did see,
This was the street of lost dreams.

A thought it then occurred to me,
I will find the dreams I'd lost.
I found the store of all lost dreams,
But once inside I saw what they cost.

It seems I could only afford
To make one lost dream come true.
I thought and then finally decide,
I wanted only a love like you.

Once the purchase had been made,
It was then you came to me.
Bright and fresh as morning dew
Beauty I could touch and see.

My heart so full of joy it was,
Our time we spent in peaceful bliss.
I gave you a daisy for your hair,
A way to show my happiness.

Time was ours, it had no end.
Your sweet perfume scented the air.
Through love our lives became as one,
In this world we had not a care.

A clap of thunder awakened me,
The night was cool and breezy.
I went to close the open window
And on the sill I found a daisy.
