pyometra 1
PYOMETRA
The best reason to spay your dog: pyometra, a potentially deadly bacterial infection of the uterus. These pictures of an infected uterus being removed from a bitch show what a dramatic effect the infection has, swelling the uterus with pus and bacteria. Even after an infected uterus is removed, the patient is not out of the woods: septic shock can result from the body being showered with bacteria.

If you plan to breed your dog, do so early in her life. Then schedule her spay with a veterinarian. Indian Hills Animal Clinic recommends spaying your pet at about six months of age.
