In the kits, there are the following: kanda leaf, various-sized needles pre-threaded
with verr-gut thread, tweezers, pliers. Also in the kits are small pads of
cloth for controlling blood flow and cleaning wounds.A bottle of diluted Paga
mixed with water, and a bottle of sterile water, and a vial of kanda salve.Store
these kits in the medical wagon and a few in quick to retrieve places in the
camp.
Making Bandages
Using old clean soft cloth, sterilize in boiled water, dry then cut into thin strips. Wrap strips into rolls then place in med. kit pouches. Check the kits often to make sure they are well stocked.
Preparing Kanda Salve
Grind the kanda until fine then boil the kanda in water cooked with bosk lard,
until the mixture thickens slightly; pour into small vials(jars), using a
cloth over the opening of the vial/jar to strain out any bits of leaves; allow
to cool and thicken. Store in the med kits.
Poison
If a slave or a Free gets poisoned then use milk and honey, mix it together
and make the P/person drink large dozes.
Bruises
Put icepacks on the bruised place, offer to massage it gently with oil and
then wrap a bandage around.
Cuts/Gashes
Wipe the blood away, clean it with diluted paga and decide if it needs stiching.
If not, then clean it and wrap a bandage around to protect it from infections.
Stitching Wounds
Remember-when treating wounds, to treat the bleeding wounds first, always
stop the bleeding first.
1.) clean the wound, dip a clean rep cloth in the diluted paga. carefully
wipe the blood away and determine if wounds are still bleeding and stop the
bleeding. then assess what stiches to use. internal for deep wounds. external
wounds not as deep. smaller stiches for places that bends (ie. knee, wrist
ect.)
2.) reach for the needle and thread it according to whether the wound needs
inside stitches first or not.
3.) if internal stitches are needed move quickly and offer more kanda leaf.
4.) stich the wound, as small stiches as possible, after every stich, tie
a knot. after the stitches are in place generously apply the kanda salve and
then sprinkle with the healing herbs.
5.) apply a soft clean pad to cover the wound and wrap the wound in a clean
bandage
Cauterizing a Wound
1.Wash the wound with sterile water only. Do NOT use paga at all.
2.Heat the fire-stick/quiva in the fire until it glows white.(Always ask permission
to use a weapon)
3.Press the heated item to the wound, quickly for five seconds. Remove the
stick/quiva and check to see that the wound is sealed completely.
4.Apply a thick layer of kanda salve and healing herbs.
5.Wrap with fresh bandages, sterile bandages.
Blades / Arrows in Wound
Any protuding object in the Master (ie:arrows, quivas, bolts, etc) reach for
a clean rep cloth and hold it next to the wound tightly. pull the object out
in one clean swift motion. continue to apply pressure and stop the bleeding.
clean the wound. then stitch accordingly.
Herbs that are good to know.
Black pepper : It hurts but will stop bleedings.
Capture scent : it will render a person unconscious when inhaled, can give
headache when the P/person wakes up.
Honey : Applied on a wound helps promote healing.
White sage, Peppermint and Bearfat: will pull out an infection.
Kanda : Used in healing salve and Kanda leaf will take most of the pain. BUT
ALWAYS tell the P/person not to swallow, it is deadly poison to swallow.
Willow bark : may be added to teas for bruises, strains or head injury .
~* Gorean Health *~
Goreans are rarely sick. Many toxins are found though and a Gorean may be poisoned or injured, though they do heal amazingly fast. A severed limb can be reattached and fully functional in three days. The same with broken bones. A wound unless needing stitching only needs to be cleaned and lightly coated with antiseptic salve
Wounds that require cauterizing for blood loss and stitching or just stitching will take only a couple of days to heal. Bruises take merely a day, sprains 3 or 4 days. They are treated with herbal liniments and ice or soaks in the hot springs. Poisons work fast. Usually noted by the third heartbeat of the slave testing the food and she will be deceased by the 10th heartbeat but full recovery if given milk and honey and the antidote is swift. It only takes a couple of hours and the slave is back to work
Medical supplies are kept in medkits throughout camp and in the medwagon next to servery. They are to be checked and restocked the beginning of each day and after every spar and raid. They consist of finely forged surgical implements which are essential. (also see list below) They are tweezers, pliers, some items to retract flesh, flexible chest tubes and small wood handled cauterizing irons, numerous needles for stitching, small skeins of gut of different strength are there for stitching, soft cotton pads and clean boiled rence cloths are there for packing and bandaging, rolls of silk andages are also in every chest in good supply and soft verr skin bags to be filled and used as ice packs or heating pads, bottles of the poisons antidote and some strong herbal emetics much like ipecac, to be given with large doses of milk and honey
Some of the herbs available are kanda leaf, a poisonous narcotic if ingested but when chewed, numbs the body thus relieving pain. Too much chewed will also poison. This can be ground fine and added to salve of boiled lards, steamed to purify and is used as kanda leaf salve which numbs the skin its applied to. A green herbal powder of antiseptic properties is available to add to paga for a sterilizing anti-infective purpose. It can be used to bathe wounds and it may also be sprinkled on dressing wound.Infections are almost unheard of. Valerian (sleeping aid) is used in the herbal tea with small amounts of kanda. This tea aids in prevention of infection, pain relief and making One sleepy. Willow bark may be added to teas for bruises, strains or head injury or used alone for headaches. Peppermint is used in teas along with ginger to relieve indigestion. Very rare lemon and honey and ginger in tea is a restorative for sore throats which is very rare, almost unheard of,in a Gorean. There is also a kettle of boiling water and restorative broth constantly simmering. keep checking this throughout the day too. The cauterizing irons are left in the coals to be ever ready and there is a verr skin bota of paga there as well, to be kept warm. For bathing wounds, add green powder right before using the paga.

|||Medical Serves|||
MEDICAL NOTES:
1) Between raids: do field dressings only. NO KANDA LEAVES!
2) Keep posts short and to the point, no uality. No flowering it up.
3) A slave may never to touch a weapon, without the permission of Master/Mistress.Once
permission is granted. then they must use a repcloth to remove the weapon.
4)Cauterization should only be used in extreme cases with severe bleeding
from a wound.
5)If owned a girl/boy will tend their own Master or but chain sisters and
brothers are to help Others as needed.
6)If conflicting orders or commands are given by Masters or es that differ
from the first s or senior kajira, please post the following: "Master/Mistress,
this slave has been assigned to tend Master/Mistress/sister/brother"
Minor Wound Treatment:
1.The first task is to assist the O/one wounded to a Chair, Medical wagon, or Thier furs( or thier Master/Mistress furs).
2. Ask what wounds the O/one has recieved.
3. Using sterile water and a rep cloth, clean the and dirt from the wound. If sterile water is unavailable paga can be used
;;4. Add the green herb powder to the paga (or use some Agrimony tincture), pour on rence cloths to pat the wound clean.
5. Then apply a thick layer of agrimony/wylow salve.Wrap the wound with a cloth bandage. This is all that is done for wounds that don't require stitches.
6. Change bandages daily for the one or at most two days. Use the same routine, clean with paga or sterile water. Put on antiseptic salve, leave off dressing after third change for worst wounds, most stitched wounds after second day, dress with light layer of cotton.
Major Wounds Treatment (After a Raid or Spar):
1.The first task is to assist the O/one wounded to a chairs Medical wagon, or Thier furs( or thier Master/Mistress furs).
2. Ask what wounds have been recieved during a raid or spar. Tend to the most severe first and foremost, then move on to less severe wounds.
3. Offer a kanda leaf. Remind the O/one being treated not to swallow the juice as it is poisonous. Using sterile water and a rep cloth, clean the and dirt from the wound. If sterile water is unavailable paga can be used.
4. Using sterile water and a rep cloth, clean the and dirt from the wound. If sterile water is unavailable paga can be used
5. Add the green herb powder to the paga, bathe the wound this mixture or pour on rence cloths to pat the wound clean. Then apply a thick layer of numbing kanda salve to the wound edges to make sure no pain is felt.
6a. If small blade or arrows peice remain in the wound (If granted persmisson
to do so as a slave) Use a rence cloth or the pliers from the medical kit
to pull it free.
6b. If it is a full arrow or a cross bolt, then another step is done here.
Cut the end of the flight with the pliers or knife, then push through to the
other side. If this cannot be done, then use the knife, after liberally coating
the inner wound with kanda slave to numb, and cut around the arrow head or
bolt. Inspect the wound afterwards for bleeding and fragments. Use the tweezers
(after dipping them in paga) if needed to remove them.
<font face="Tahoma" size=?34;2">7a. If there is severe
bleeding, (If granted persmisson to do so as a slave) take a cauterizing iron
from the coals of the brazier and lay it over the bleeding vessel to sear
it shut.
7b.If it is an artery bleeding, (this pumps bright red at the same rate as
heart rate) then it must be carefully stitched back together first with a
fine curved needle and fine gut suture stitching.
8. Use small fine, even stitches in a herringbone pattern to draw the flesh edges together in a smooth unpuckered line. If the wound is very deep use more than one layer. Strong stitches are used to sew tendons back together if cut. If the wound is over a body area that will bend alot, then after done stitching, add some mattress stitches to brace the incision line.
9. Wipe away the withsterile water or paga soaked cloth, sprinkle with green powder if needed and then layer on Agrimony/Kanda salve. This is all that is done for wounds that don't require stitches.
10. Wounds that require stitching needs bandaging. Use a thick layer of cotton then wrap this snugly with cloth bandages.
11. Change bandages daily for the one or at most two days. Use the same routine, clean with paga or sterile water. Put on antiseptic salve, leave off dressing after third change for worst wounds, most stitched wounds after second day, dress with light layer of cotton.
Treatment of Burns:
1.The first task is to assist the O/one wounded to a Chair, Medical wagon, or Thier furs( or thier Master/Mistress furs). It is important they are comfortable. Prepare for posssible shock when O/one is burn.
2. Clean the wound with antiseptic soap and sterile water to remove dirt from the wound. Carefully pat with a sterile repcloths. Washing is the most important thing you can do in the treatment of a burn This one time one would not use sterile paga, it may irritate the burn.
3. Remove all devitalized tissue and lance all blisters that may appear. If left in place there is an increased potential for wound infection because the fluid which collects within a blister and the devitalized tissue creates a culture medium in which bacteria can thrive.
4. Shave hair adjacent to the wound (if granted persmisson to do so as a slave). Apply blue short grass or kanda salve to numb the area.
5. Leave the wound open or wrap lightly with gauze. Repeat the cleansing process and application of healing antiseptic salve twice daily. Put on antiseptic salve, leave off dressing after third change for worst wounds.
SPECIAL NOTE: If a burned foot it should not be walked on, or the foot will
swell. The more it swells the more likely it is to get infected, the more
likely it is going to hurt and it will take longer to heal.

Additional knowledge needed for Healers and healing kajira
Child Birth and Pregancy
Terms of Pregancy(Online Note):
Many have different points of view on how long a pregancy should last or be
acted out on Gor. For many Free Women and some special slaves this is a very
important thing to them. Now many know there is a standard of 40 weeks for
full pregancy. So to make it simple as well as practical, a simple equation
was given to me.
1) for each day of activity in your homestone will equal one week of pregancy
(example: 1 week real time[7 days] = 1 month of gorean pregancy on gor).{beside
9 r/t weeks of rp of pregancy is better than trying to do 9 months}
2)From the moment the pregancy is announced. The W/woman can be at least already
1 month and up to up 3 months,(that choice will be made during the examine).
3)Now I am not sure when it happened or how it happened but, twins and triplets
are a rare thing. It was more common for a Gorean W/women to have one child
at a time. Now I am not saying it is wrong. Yet there are some serious things
to consider.
A) Your term can become shorter about 4 weeks
B) The children can be born premature
C) There is always the chance not all the children will survive
As a Healer,I just want the facts to be known. For the complications can be
very un-nerving.
D)You should see your Physican or Healer at least every once a month( or once
a week r/t) to check on your progress
Child Birth
Check the dialation how open the womb is
Time the contractions
When they are close and she is dialated wide and you can see the head, tell
her to push.
Guide the baby out gently.
As soon as it is out clear the mouth and wash off . Smack its bottom.
Cut and tie cord and rub with animal fat and wrap
Have someone hold the baby until after the mother has the afterbirth
Then gently check to be sure all is on and out and clean her up then give
her the baby
Collapsed Lung (Lung Puncture)
Use the chest tube in med kit
Insert between the ribs on side of injured lung
Use a sharp trocar to make the hole (ask permission first..,it is an ice pick
and can be considered a weapon)
Then inserting chest tube between ribs, stab gently with firm pressure with
a little twist
Remove trocar, leave tube, blow hard on the end of the tube until you hear
the lung pop back open
Then pad the end to catch y drainage
Stitch in place
Remove the chest tube when lungs sound clear and stitch back together usually
in 2 days
Tracheotomy
If airway is blocked due to smoke or blocked objects or a broken wind pipe
and the patient can not breath, take a knife and cut a small hole at base
of neck where the endentation is, just below adams apple for a man, then insert
some tubing.
The patient will be able to breath now
Remove object or repair the broken wide pipe and sew back the trache
If the problem is smoke inhalation, have the patient drink cool tea pepermint
& sage for two days
Sew back the trache when the patient can breath better.

Note on Medical Chores
Everything is in the Medical wagon that you will need except for a few things
(rags, extra water, etc.) Please consult the Camp healer or check the chore
boards for supplies that needed to re-stocks and replenished.
Map Coming Soon
Medical and Surgical Wagons
The medical wagons needs to be cleaned and sterilized everyday. All should
be cleaned down with soap and sterile water, then wipe down with sterile paga.
Making needles
Carve little slender bits of bone, sharpen one end and put an eye in the other
(slaves must ask permission to use a quiva)
Making bandages
Find rags in good shape (don't use the silk ones though), wash them, then
rip them into long strips, then boil them so they're sterile, dry them and
then roll them up and store them in the Medicine wagon.
WAYS OF PREPARING HERBS FOR USE
Notes: Always post your medical chores on the choreboard. The water in the
following preparations is brought to boiling then poured over the herb, the
herbs are NOT boiled in the water, for that would cause a breakdown of the
vitamins and minerals in the herbs that are so vital to the healing process.
Making An Infusion
This process draws the properties you want out of the herb for healing. An
infusion is basically a strong tea. The normal mixture is 1 pint of warmed
water to ounce of herb. It takes experience to learn how long each herb needs
to steep, some take longer than others, the average length of time is hour
but with practice you'll learn which take longer and which take less time.
This is the easiest od.
Making A Decoction
This is much the same as an infusion (tea) except you are working with a much
more solid herb such as thick pieces of root or bark which can't be ground
up or the remedy calls for a much stronger dose.. This is the one case where
you should BOIL THE HERB. In fact that's the whole process. Make sure that
no steam escapes or the vital oils will go away with it. Also (of course)
never use any metal when doing ANY herbal remedies.
If you will have more than one ingredient in the decoction begin by boiling
the toughest then work down. Start with cold water and after boiling for what
you consider long enough allow it to steep usually for at least 30 minutes.
Making A Poultice
This is used when you need to apply the herbs externally such as for a burn
or for wound. Yes it's messy but often essential for healing. Pour boiling
water over the herbs using just enough to dampen them or evenly cover the
plant matter, you're not trying to extract anything from the herb only to
moisten it. When it is all evenly wet remove it with a strainer and place
between 2 pieces of rence or rep cloth. You then apply the rep cloth with
the herbs inside to the affected part and allow the moisture with the herb
essence to pass within the person.
Making An Ointment/Salve
This process involves mixing the herb(s) with a fixative such as animal or
vegetable fat. This is done by heating the fixative until it is quite warm
and adding the ground herbs to it. Once mixed up the mixture can be heated
more than once and allowed to cool, Once you are satisfied that all the goody
has been removed from the herb the whole mixture should be strained and put
into a storage container then allowed to cool. This is the same procedure
used to make salves.
Making A Wash
This process draws the properties you want out of the herb for healing. As
you done when making a infusion. An infusion is a strong herbal infusion used
externally. The normal mixture is 1 pint of warmed water to 2 ounces of herb.
As with infusions, to do a was takes experience to learn how long each herb
needs to steep, some take longer than others, the average length of time is
hour but with practice you'll learn which take longer and which take less
time. This is the easiest method.
Making A Tincture/Extracts
These are used when long term storage is required. It requires alcohol of
at least a 75% grade which can be safely ingested such as paga. Place the
following in a jar which can be tightly sealed.
1-4 ounces of the herb
8 ounces of alcohol (drinkable!)
4 ounces of water
Seal the jar and keep it safely out of the light for 2 weeks. Each day at
least once, check it and make sure that you loosed the mass of herb inside
the jar by swirling it about. Continue this process until at the end of the
2 weeks the alcohol has extracted all the constituents without need of heat.
This process is best begun on the new moon and completed on the full.
Making Basic Animal Fat Soap
Grease soap mold and set aside. Put on the protective apron, gloves, and eye
gear.((Note: the apron, special gloves and eye coverings next to the soap
mold area...*snicker* got to love that mul slave gear))Place 2 1/2 pounds
of bosk tallow(fat) in a large lye resistant pot and heat fat, stirring occasionally,
until, until it reaches 120F to 125F. Place16 oz of water, preferably distilled
and at room temperature in the pourable spout lye resistant pitcher. Very
carefully measure in 5 1/2 oz of lye and slowly blend it into water. Stir
occasionally but slowly with a wooden spoon until all lye is fully dissolved.
When lye-water mixture is within the same temperature range of the tallow (between 120F to 125F), start pouring lye-water mixture into the melted talllow in a thin steady stream, stirring occasionally. Keep stirring constantly and slowly, but not over zealously. You don't want to be creating air bubbles in the mixture - unless you want your soap to float.
After about 10-15 minutes, the mixture should start tracing, which means that it has gone from clear to opaque, that it has thickened and that when you now pick up the spoon in the pot, the liquid soap drizzles off of it and leaves a trace on the surface. If after 45 minutes to an hour, your soap mixture still hasn't started tracing yet, then you might have to recheck your measurements.
At this point, the soap mixture is ready to be poured or ladled into the
molds. Do so, seal the mold with plastic wrap (or with the cover to the mold),
put some blankets or towels on it and place it in a draft-free place. Let
it sit for 2 days
.
After 2 days, remove the mold's lid and plastic wrap and assess your soap; with the gloves on ((remember: the lye is still highly caustic so don't touch your soap with your hands)) gently touch the surface of the soap. If the soap is still very soft, let it sit overnight and the next day unwrapped. If the soap is firm to the touch (yet still leaves an imprint) take the soap out of g the mold cut into pieces (if necessary), trim off any excess and place it on a drying rack, or clean butcher block.
If you have used individual soap molds, then you simply need to wait another three weeks for your soap to have completed its aging process. If you have used a large mold and are planning on slicing it up into small bars, then start checking the soap after about one week or so. ((there is both in the Med Wagon))
Once the soap is sliced, place the individual bars onto a drying rack, or
butcher block, and let the soap air dry for another 2 1/2 weeks until the
surface of the soap is very hard to the touch. Scrape off whatever ash might
be on the bar's surface with a sharp knife(((slaves must get permission to
use a knife. or use a cutting shell)), and the soap is ready to use!

Talk about infant mortality. ( Tribesmen of Gor )
Feeding tubes and stomach pumps. ( Players of Gor )
Black pepper : It hurts but will stop bleeding.
Blue short grass : Grows under the water of the falls. When dried and crushed, it has numbing qualities. The powder aids in comfort and pain.

tarnsmen; it is often used by slavers. Anesthetic dart, too are sometimes
used in the taking of female; these maybe flung, or entered into the body
by hand; they take effect in about fourty Ihn; she awakens often, in a slave
kennel." ( Marauders of Gor pg. 115--116 )
Cayenne Pepperalso : referred to as stinging spices...levels out pressure, when made as a tea helps to stop internal bleeding, when applied as a paste, stops external bleeding
Chamomilein : a tea to aid with sleep....especially during pregnancy
Dar-kosis : A virulent, horrible, wasting disease and is similar in many ways to leprosy. Dar-kosis means Holy Disease and it is also known as the Sacred Affliction. The diseased are commonly known as Afflicted Ones. The name of the disease is rarely mentioned. The Initiates feel Dar-kosis is an instrument of the Priest-Kings to punish those who displease them. The afflicted are holy to the Priest Kings and it is heresy to shed their skin though they can be stoned. It is highly contagious and the afflicted must wear yellow robes as a mark. Many victims also periodically clack a wooden device to warn people to stay away. Initiates have arranged Dar-Kosis pits where the Afflicted may voluntarily imprison themselves, to be fed with food dropped by men on tarns. Once in a Pit, an Afflicted is not permitted to leave.

Obstetrics
(( Artificial insemination done in Tharna )) "I have never been in the arms of a man before, she said, for the men of Tharna may not touch women. I must have looked puzzled. The Caste of Physicians, she said, under the direction of the High Council of Tharna, arranges these matters." ( Outlaw of Gor pg. 106)
(( Birth of an Alar baby )) "The tiny baby, not minutes old, with tiny gasps and coughs, still startled and distressed with the sharp, frightful novelty of breathing air, never again to return to the shelter of its mothers body, lost in a chaos of sensation, its eyes not focused, unable scarcely to turn its head from side to side, lay before him. The cord had been cut and tied at its belly. Its tiny legs and arms moved. The the membranes and fluids had been wiped from its small hot red firm body. Then it had been rubbed with animal fat." --Mercenaries of Gor pg 46.
(( Discussing differences between Red Hunter and Red Savage Babies)) "Their is (Red Savages) are not born with a blue spot at the base of the spine, as in the case with most of the Red Hunters." --Savages of Gor pg 35.
(( Cleanliness habits of Tahari Mothers and resultant low infant mortality rate. )) "Another habit of nomads, or of nomad mothers, is to frequently bathe small childeren, even if it is only with a cloth and a cup of water. There is a very low infant mortality rate among nomads, in spite of their limited diet and harsh environment." --Tribesmen of Gor pg 171.
(( Comparison of infant nursing habits )) "It might be of interest to note that childeren of the nomads are suckled for some eighteen months, which is nearly twice the normal length of time for Earth infants, and half again the normal time for Gorean infants." --Tribesmen of Gor pg 170.

((Speaking of the differences in menstration ages between Red Savage and Red Hunters.)) "Their daughters (Red Savages) menstrate earlier (than Red Hunter daughters)" --Savages of Gor pg 35.
"The buyers were also informed that I was `glana' or a virgin. The correlated term is `metaglana,' used to designate the state to which the glana state looks forward, or that which it is regarded as anticipating. Though the word was not used of me I was also `profalarina', which term designates the state preceding, and anticipating, that of `falarina,' the state Goreans seem to think of as that of being a full woman, or, at least, as those of Earth might think of it, one who certainly is no longer a virgin. In both terms, `glana' and `profalarina,' incidentally, it seems that the states they designate are regarded as immature or transitory, state to be succeeded by more fully developed, superior states, those of `metaglana' or `falarina.' Among slaves, not free women, these things are sometimes spoken of along the lines as to whether or not the as been `opened' for the uses of men. Other common terms, used generally of slaves, are `white silk' and `red silk', for s who have not yet been opened, or have been opened, for the uses of men, respectively." --Dancer of Gor, pg 128.
(( Terms to refer to the virginity of Free Women. )) "Glana denotes the state of virginity and metaglana dentotes the state succeding viginity." --Savages of Gor pg 203.
"Another way of drawing distinction is in terms of falarina and profalarina. Profalarina designates the state preceding falarina which is the state of a woman who has been penetrated at least once by a male." Savages pg 203.
(( Slave wine and the prevention of pregancy. )) "Slave wine is bitter intentionally so. Its effect last for more than a Gorean month. I did not wish the females to conceive, A female slave is taken off slave wine only when it is her Masters intention to breed her." --Marauders of Gor pg 23,24.
"He proffered me a cup and I with one hand holding the blanket about me with the other drank its contents. It was a foul brew but I downed it. I did not know at the time but it was slave wine. Men sledom breed upon their slave s." --Slave of Gor pg 69.
"I held the object before her. She regarded it with dismay, I have already chewed sip root within the moon, she said. She did not need the sip root of course for as she had pointed out she had had some within the moon and indeed the effect of sip root in the raw state in most women is three or four moons." Brothers of Gor pg 319.
(( **Quotes showing SLAVE WINE Lasts indefinately** )) "In the concentrated state as in slave wine developed by the Caste of Physicians the effect ( of sip root ) is almost indefinite, usually requiring a releaser for its remission, usually administered to a slave in what is called breeding wine or second wine." -- Brothers of Gor pg 319.
"Have you had your slave wine?" asked Ina. "Yes," I said. This is not really wine, or an alcoholic beverage. It is called slave wine I think for the amusement of the Masters. It is extremely bitter. One draught of the substance is reputed to last until the administration of an appropriate releaser. In spite of this belief however or perhaps in deference to tradition, ing from earlier times, in which, it seems less reliable slave wines were available, doses of this foul stuff are usually administered to female slaves at regular intervals usually once or twice a year. Some s rather cynical ones, I suspect speculate that the Masters give it to them more often than necessary just because they enjoy watching them down the terrible stuff." --Dancer of Gor pg 174.
Slave wine makes sense in a slave-holding ure, such as Gor. The breeding
of slaves, like any sort of domestic animals, and particularly valuable ones,
is carefully controlled. As a slave, of course, I could be bred or crossed,
when, and however, my master might see fit. It is the same with other animals.
. .
. . . When the is taken to the breeding cell or breeding stall, she is normally
hooded. Her selected mate is also hooded. In this fashion personal attachments
are precluded. She is not there to know in whose arms she lies, or piteously,
and in misery, to fall in love, but to be impregnated. And in accord with
the prescribed anonymity of the breeding, as would be expected, the slaves
do not speak to one another. They may be slain if they do. Their coupling
is public, of course, in the sense that the master, or usually, masters, and
sometimes others, whether in an official capacity or not, are present, to
make any pertinent payments or determinations. --Dancer of Gor, pg. 175
"What is it? I asked, startled. It seemed he had produced this almost by magic. It was a soft, leather botalike flask, drawn from within his tunic. Slave wine he said. Need I drink that? I asked, apprehensively. Unless you have had slave wine, he said, I have no intention of taking you through the streets clad as you are. Suppose you are d. I put the flask, which he had opened, to my lips. Its opening was large enough to drink freely from. It is bitter! I said, touching my lips to it. It is the standard concentration, and dosage, he said, plus a little more, for assurance. Its effect is indefinite, but it is normally renewed annually, primarily for symbolic purposes. I could not believe how bitter it was. I had learned from Susan, whom I had once questioned on the matter, the objectives and nature of slave wine. It is prepared from a derivative of sip root. The formula, too, I had learned, at the insistence of masters and slavers, had been improved by the caste of physicians within the last few years. It was now, for most practical purposes, universally effective. Too, as Drusus Rencius had mentioned, its effects, at least for most practical purposes, lasted indefinitely. Have no fear, said Drusus Rencius. The abatement of its effects is reliably achieved by the ingestion of a releaser." ( Kajira of Gor pg. 130)
(( Second wine - reversing slave wine. )) "The active ingredient of breeding wine or second wine is a derivative of teslik." --Blood Brothers of Gor pg 320.
Slave Health
"I was then at the infirmary. I had not known if it would be practical
place to hide or not. I found that it was not. There the s lay on wooden pallets,
on the ground, chained to them by the wrist, ankles and neck." ( Vagabonds
of gor pg. 456 )
(( Examination of a new slave / barbarian )) "The building where I would wait on these days was the house of a Physician. I was taken through a corridor to a special rough room, where slaves were treated. There my camisk would be removed. On the first day the physician, a quiet man in the green garments of his Caste, examined me, thoroughly. The instruments he used, the tests he performed, the samples he required were not unlike those of Earth. Further ceratin peices of equipment were clearly far from primitive. For example there was a small machine with gauges and dials. In this he would place slides, containing drops of , and , flecks of tissue, a strand of hair. With a stylus he would note readings on the machine, and on the small screen at the top of the machine, I saw vastly enlarged what reminded me of an image witnessed under a microscope. He would breifly study the image, and then make further jottings with his stylus. When he was finished he mixed several powders in three or four goblets, adding water to them and stirring them. These I was ordered to drink. The last was peculiarly foul. She requires the Stabilization Serums, said the Physician." --Captive of Gor, pg 92-93.
(( Administration of the Stabilization Serums )) "They are administered in four shots, said the Physician. The guard took me and threw me, belly down on the platform, fastening my wrists over my head and widely apart, in leather wrist straps. He similarly secured my ankles. The Physician busying himself with fluids and a syringe before a shelf in another part of the room laden with vials. I screamed. The shot was painful. It was entered in the small of my back, over the left hip. They left me secured on the table for several minutes and then the Physician returned to check the shot. There had been apparently no unusual reaction. On the first day I had been examined, given some minor medicines of little consequence, and the first shot in the Stabilization Series. On the second, third and fourth day I received the concluding shots of the series. On the fifth day the Physician took more samples. The serums are effective, he told the guard." --Captive of Gor pg 93-94.
(( Physicians examine to determine virginity of new slaves )) "Our Physicians ascertained, said he. That she is only a red silk girl." --Assassin of Gor, pg 45
(( Physicians examine to determine virginity of new slaves. )) "Tamirus approached me. He wore green robes. I did not know at that time but this indicated he was of the Caste of Physicians. Throw your legs apart or we will do this differently. Tamirus was careful with me and gentle. He checked twice delicately. It is certified by the House of Hendow, he said, the slave is a virgin. Tamirus was signing a paper He replaced the pen in the inkhorn, which closed the horn, shook the paper a bit and held it up. A fellow near him handed it to Mirus. Here is the signed attestation, said Mirus" --Dancer of Gor pg 188.
Other common terms, used generally of slaves, are `white silk' and `red silk', for s who have not yet been opened, or have been opened, for the uses of men, respectively." --Dancer of Gor, pg 128.
(( Discription of slave virginity )) "Such expressions ( refering to falarina / profalarina and glana / metaglana ) are commonly to be spoken of and by Free Persons. They are not to be applied to slaves anymore than to a tarsk sow. You were white silk now you are red silk." --Savages of Gor, pg 205.
(( Opening a slave that is spasmodic )) "If you should prove unusual in some respect, although this is extremely rare, I said. We can tomorrow, grind one of Grunts trading knives into a lancet, I understand. She shuddered. This seemed to me better than leaving the matter to the red savages. They tend to be impatient in such respects, even with their own women. A homemade lancet, sterilized in boiling water, seemed preferable to a sharpened kailiauk bone or a whittled lodge peg." --Savages of Gor, pg 173.
(( Whipping of slaves - Tending to the wounds physical and mental )) **Speaking of the snake whip** "I knew that twenty blows of that fearsome whip could kill some men." --Fighting Slave of Gor, pg 207.
(( Speaking of Jason after the whipping with the snake ship )) "Return him to his kennel, she said. Put balm on his wounds." --Fighting Slave of Gor, pg 207.

( Nomads of Gor pg. 263 )
(( speaking of the land surrounding the Ua River)) "The river and forests teemed with life. Fibrous, medicinal, and timber resources alone seemed inexhaustible. A new world, untrapped, beautiful, dangerous, was opened by the river. I think it would be impossible to overestimate its importance." ( Explorers of Gor pg. 383 )
((The speed that healing salve works))The ointment will soon be absorbed,” she said. “In a few minutes there will be no trace of it, nor of the cuts.” I whistled.“The physicians of Treve,” I said, “have marvelous medicines.”---"Priest-Kings of Gor" pg. 64
((Codes of the Physician Caste))It is little wonder then that the cities of Gor support and welcome the fairs. Sometimes they provide a common ground on which territorial and commercial disputes may be amicably resolved without loss of honor, plenipotentiaries of warring cities having apparently met by among the silken pavilions. Further, members of castes such as the Physicians and Builders use the fairs for the dissemination of information and techniques among Caste Brothers, as is prescribed in their codes in spite of the fact that their respective cities may be hostile.---"Priest-Kings of Gor" pg. 9
"A physician entered the booth with his kit slung over the shoulder of his green robes. When the physician had finished the cleansing, chemical sterilization and dressing of the wounds (dagger stab wounds) he left. The scribe paid the physician a tarsk bit."--Beasts of Gor pg. 104
(( Samos's instructions after reading a message marked on a slave s head with a tattoo )) "Take the to the pens, said Samos to the guards. With needles remove the message from her scalp."--Tribesmen of Gor pg. 24
(( Gorean Physician's recommendation to Free Women that consult them about frigidity )) "A familiar bit of advice given by bold Gorean Physicians to Free Women who consult them about their frigidity is, to their scandal, Learn slave dance. Another bit of advice, usually given to a Free Woman being ushered out of his office by a Physician impatient with her imaginary ailments is, Become a slave."--Guardsman of Gor pg. 260

(( The storage of meat )) "In another area boiled meat hung on ropes. Insects swarmed about it."--Beasts of Gor pg 63
(( The decay of food )) "Further, of course, a body in the Tahari decomposes with great slowness. The flesh of a desert tabuk which dies in the desert, perhaps seperated from its heard, and unable to find water, if undisturbed by salivary juices of predators, remains edible for several days."--Tribesmen of Gor pg. 117
Leech plant :
A hemovorous plant that fastens two hollow, fang like thorns into its victim,
through which it can suck the blood that nourishes it. It strikes like a cobra.
You can hear the popping, sucking sound of the bladderlike seed pods of the
plant as they expand and contract. They are usually cleared from the sides
of the road. They are primarily dangerous only to children and small animals.
But, an unwise person who chooses to sleep in an unknown wilderness area might
also succumb to their dangers.
(( Tarl Cabot speaking of the state of technology on Gor )) " Be that
as it may, the Priest Kings have limited man severely on this planet in many
respects, notably in weaponry, communication, and transportation. On the other
hand, the brilliance which men might have turned to destructive channels was
then diverted, almost of necessity, to other fields, most notably medicine"
--Assassin of Gor pg 30
(( Information on the operating room of the Priest Kings where they had a
Human member of the Caste of Physicians perform neurosurgery )) "I looked
about the room, turning my head painfully, and saw that the room was some
sort of operating chamber, filled with instrumentation, with racks of delicate
tongs and knives. In one corner there was a large drumlike machine with a
pressurized door which might have been a sterilizer."
--Priest Kings of Gor pg. 253
(( Discussion of the capabilities of Physicians in doing the neurosurgery
to create a "Implanted One "for Priest Kings )) "Who has done
this? I asked. I, said Parp. The operation is not as difficult as you might
expect and I have performed it many times. He is a member of the Caste of
Physicians, said Kusk, and his manual dexterity is superior even to that of
Priest Kings."
--Priest Kings of Gor pg. 254
(( Discussion of " Implanted Ones "agents of the Priest Kings that
have had neurosurgery performed on them to allow the Priest Kings to control
their will and to be able to see through their eyes )) " you are seeing
through the eyes of an Implanted One, said Sarm. I gasped. Sarm's antennae
curled. Yes, he said, the pupil of his eyes have been replaced with lenses
and a control net and transmitting device have been fused with his brian tissue.
He himself is now unconscious for the control net is activated. Later we will
allow him to rest, and he will see and hear and think again for himself. ...Can
he disobey you? I asked. Sometimes there is a struggle to resist the net or
regain consciousness, said Sarm. Could a man so resist you that he could throw
off the power of the net? I doubt it, said Sarm, unless the net were faulty.
If it could be done, I said, what would you do? It is a simple matter, said
Sarm, to overload the net's power capacity. You would kill the man? It is
only a human, said Sarm."
--Preist Kings of Gor pg. 136 - 137
