Amber Dragonsfury, daughter of Ubar Ragnar and Ubara Karanis, was born between First Son, Sigarr, and Second Son, Terran. She was a triplet, and from her birth, the First and Only Daughter of the Ubar and Ubara. She grew as any Tuchuk child will grow, forming a close bond with her two Brothers. A bond that even the Ubar and Ubara could not understand themselves. The triplets even went so far as to make up their own language, so that the adults around them could not understand what plots and evil ideas were forming in the three children's minds. From early on, Amber was a treasure, the apple of Ubar's eye. Pretty, like her Mother, but with a certain tomboyishness about her, she was hardly as normal as other little girls in the camp. She refused to learn the finer things of being a Woman, such as sewing, cooking and cleaning. If there was anything around to climb on, she did it. If there was something her brothers were doing, she did it right along with them. The only thing her brothers could do, that she couldn't, was wield a Man's weapon. As much as she was discontented with that fact, she didn't let it deter her from constantly browbeating her brothers. Despite her not being able to wield swords, axes or hammers, she could still put a beating on her brothers like none other could. Time passed, and more than a few grey hairs on her Father's head later, Amber turned 18. She had earned her name by learning how to ride a kailla, the lance, the quiva and how to use a horn bow. She could outshoot and outthrow most of the children in camp by the time she was 8, even besting her brothers who had certainly outgrown her by then at some of the things. She wasn't nearly as gentle as other girls of her age, nor even remotely close to feminine. She was feral as a prairie larl, as untamed as a wild sleen. Her rage was equal to her Father's, her words as biting as her Mother's. She learned from everyone around her. She was not calm, nor patient, as those would be lessons learned later on in life. As she was growing, she found a love for painting. Her beginning paintings were filled with doodles, stick figures, roughly brushed backgrounds. Things she had found in ordinary every day life began to spring to life with brightly colored pictures of things she saw. Flat rocks, sides of wagons, anything that stayed still long enough had been painted. Even a bosk had been painted, much to the dismay of ever patient Outriders, who didn't see the sneaky First Daughter painting that bosk. Unaware that she was being watched by everyone, her Father, and an admirer as well within the group. Unaware that she was, that eventually she would blossom into a curvaceous and tall Woman, she had gained an admirer. A girlish crush had developed upon a boy of her age, she had gifted him many things, little things that perhaps meant nothing to anyone but the 8 year old girl. His name was KamKhan. It was only after KamKhan perished in a Kataii raid that Amber ever knew that the feelings had been returned, that KamKhan had already begun to gather what was needed for a Brideprice. His death had affected her severely as she cleaned out his wagon. He had been a bit of an artist himself, sketching her as she moved around camp, always watching her, protecting her. She had forgotten about the crush, but he had not. He had even kept her first painting. Stick figures on a flat rock that she had given to him out of hopes that he would return her crush. Little things happened for most of her life. Her 18th birthday along with Sigarr and Terran really began her life. She began to participate in more wagon life. Interacting with the adults of camp rather than just living life for herself. The responsibility of being the Ubar's Daughter rested easily upon her shoulders as realization came slowly to her that as her birthright, she was to live for Camp. She really didn't pay much attention to the more feminine aspects of camp life, not really, until she happened to notice a Man. Actually, her notice was sort of forced. She had been bathing when a girl, then named ivy, brought it up to a Free Man that she was worried that Amber may be drowning or in trouble because she had been gone so long. The Man, only acting on instinct to protect moved towards the hot springs in silence, not making a noise. Amber had long since begun carrying things to the springs to protect herself should an attack happen while she was bathing. She heard just the small noise of the Man's boots upon the plains grass when she picked up a rock and waited. Sinking low into the water she watched the entrance to the springs and when the Man, worried about the lack of noise from the waters, came rushing in to protect her, she threw the rock in her hand, her aim perfect, landing a blow to the Man's temple. The Man, whose name is Strider, fell to the ground unconsious, but not before getting a good eyeful of the naked, curvacious form of the Ubar's Daughter. Dismayed, and more than a little upset, Amber called for help as she scrambled out of the springs to get dressed and help Strider to the medwagon. It was the first time she had intentionally hurt a Free Man of Camp outside of the sparring pit for practice. ivy came running, first covering Amber up before any of the ASKARI came running at the sound of their Charge's voice raised in alarm. Biting her lip, Amber finished getting dressed and hustled back to Camp as the ASKARI took Strider to the Medwagon. He was diagnosed with a concussion, and from there spoke with Amber, alleviating her of any guilt for her actions. From then on, Strider and Amber seemed inseparable. Every moment of free time each had, they spent with one another, getting to know each other better. Amber getting used to Strider's rogueish ways, his easy smile, the banter from him. Strider getting used to Amber's determination, her sheer pride and force of will to getthings done when they needed to be done. He also realized that her temper was not something to invoke at any given time, and to this day, still wears a helmet whenever he may anger her, to protect him from any rocks thrown at his head. Strider eventually asked the Ubar, her Father, to court her, but that was to be denied, as Amber had yet to prove herself as a Woman of Camp, and it was too soon to let her go for him. She had been his little girl for so long, he was not quite ready to allow her to be another Man's just yet. Strider was told to wait, to become friends with Amber, and both seemed content to do just that. Time passed, and friendships came and went for Amber, having found a friend in a released slave known as Brooke, only to be slapped in the face with her dishonor when Brooke failed to live up to her Home bead and became a bitter shrew to her family. Amber continued to strive for her own beads, having earned the Courage bead in a Raid, her Home bead was next and then shortly followed the Trusted bead. Time passed and once more the idea of courting came up to her Father, this time, in return for Strider behaving in the Medwagon, Amber brought it up to Ragnar. Once more, she was told that she wasn't ready to be a proper FC, and Amber had never felt such a weight on her shoulders. In an effort to be equal with her brothers, she had lacked in the things that separated her from them. The fact that she was indeed female, and needed the basic skills of being a Woman, to be a proper FC. She was given the list of tasks she would have to complete in order to court. She set about with determination to finish these tasks, throwing herself completely into them, while doing her normal Clan work as a Painter. During the time of her attempting to get things done to be a proper FC, Strider went out for a Salt Hunt and didn't return. This worried her, and she felt as though she wasn't good enough for him to come back to her. It didn't stop her from learning the skills needed to survive on her own if needed. The sewing, the cooking, the healing, the meanings of the lanterns, the cleaning. She learned it all,and in it, found a passion she never thought was possible. She had found, that during her time, watching Lady Muse, the first Healer of camp, and learning from her, that she wished to learn more, to be more of a help to her family. She kept that fact a secret for a bit, just watching and waiting until the time may be right when she may approach her Father and Muse for an opportunity to apprentice as a Healer. It wouldn't come for awhile, but during that time, Terran had begun courting Muse, and Amber was feeling closer and closer to the First Healer. The death of her brother, First Son, Sigarr, was hard on her. He had been acting out, even challenging her Poppa for his rightful spot as Ubar. Sigarr had begun to act like a petulant child, drinking heavily and not doing his duty to camp. It worried Amber, as she knew her father had little patience for Sigarr's childlike antics. Sigarr was locked away in his wagon after striking Muse, only to escape during a raging thunder storm. Amber, Terran and Shukan went out to track him, joined shortly after by their injured Ubar. Amber found Sigarr and despite her better instincts, called her Father over. In that gully, during that rainstorm, Ragnar and Sigarr fought in a battle to the death. At the end, only Ragnar stood as his Son's life slipped away. The Camp was decimated emotionally at the death, and the Dragonsfury's never really have overcome the emotional tumult of having the First Son's loss of life come from Ragnar himself. Another storm soon after the one that clouded Sigarr's death left Amber ill and out of sorts. She slipped from the medwagon and searched for ImInnocent during the storm, only to find that her beloved Kailla had disappeared. She couldn't find him anywhere until a small boy, about the age of 8 rode up on him, claiming he had gone to look for his missing Father. His Father was never found, and it was to be known that his Mother died during a stampede that happened over the course of the storm. The boy had nowhere else to go, and Amber took responsibility of him, affectionately naming him Lil Man, until he was of age and knew the proper skills to earn a name. As migration passed Turia this season, the Camp stopped just outside to allow shopping to commence. Amber went into the city with familure, a sweet little blonde slave, feeling a little down because Strider had yet to return from his last salt hunt. lure, in an effort to bring a little cheer to Amber's sour mood, bought a small piece of amber and gifted it to the young Ubar's daughter, effectively cheering her up some. That same night, her Father gifted lure to her, and Amber happily accepted the wonderful girl into her collar. Life settled down for the Ubar's daughter, and with lure in her collar, and Lil Man as her son, she began to feel a lot less lonely and a lot more loved. She eventually approached Muse about becoming blood to one another, as Muse was the closest thing to a real Sister as she had. Muse accepted, and shortly afterwards, Amber also became an Apprentice Healer, learning more in depth treatments than the basic first aid. Recently, Strider has also returned to Camp and asked the Ubar to court Amber, and after much debate and inner struggle, the Ubar agreed. But that courtship was never to be. Strider once again went out on a Salt Hunt, and this time he did not return. Amber held on for as long as she possibly could, waiting his return. She waited and waited, watching the horizon, looking for the figure that she knew so well on the plains, but she never saw it. Strider never came back to Tuchuk, and to her. She still does not know to this day whether Strider is alive, or if he met his end and went to the CoD. She was heartbroken. Self doubts had begun to culminate within her. Perhaps she wasn't a good enough Woman for him to return. After months of holding on, of hoping that he was well, she gave up. She spoke with her Father and ended the courtship. It was a decision that weighed heavily on her heart, but something that was necessary. She retreated into herself, alienating herself from most of her family, remaining mostly by herself, except for the times when lure or Lil Man was near her. She had some happy times, an Assassin had taken an interest in her, and though she reciprocated his feelings, they both knew that their love would never blossom into a full relationship. He could not, or rather would not, settle down and become part of Tuchuk, and she knew that her Father would never allow her courtship and eventual Companionship to one not of Tuchuk, and an unscarred man at that. That didn't keep her from enjoying what little time she had with Mithras. Until the day that he decided, it was too much to be around her, and not have her as his Woman. So he left Tuchuk and never returned, not even to visit. Once more, it seemed to Amber that there was just something about her that drove Men away. She moped for awhile, a long while, not sure what to do with herself. During this time, Lil Man earned his name and became known to Tuchuk as Cassius. Amber delved herself into her Sons life, teaching him all the things she knew of Tuchuk, of the proper way to conduct himself, and with the lack of a Father figure in his life, she tried to teach him how to be a Warrior of Strength and of Honor. Not only had she not been able to keep a love interest around, but also the two Women she looked up to the most, were away for long periods of time. Her Mother, Karanis, and her Blood, Muse. She felt even more lonely, never quite comfortable enough to share her thoughts and feelings with any others. Though she tried with her Father, he could be quite dense about how she was feeling, and she wasn't exactly eloquent with her words either. Time passed, though Amber hardly noticed. She lived her day to day life without much rhyme or reason besides Healing when it was necessary, as she had become a full healer, and painting. She wasn't aware that once more she was being watched from afar. One night, after a ceremony held for Scarring Honors, there was merriment and cheek pinching, as was custom for the Tuchuks. One man, having earned his very first scar, the Courage Scar, was being especially picked on. Amber did not figure that this was very fair. Under guise of Healing, she approached the pincher, and proceeded to pinch his cheeks roughly before skittering away to move towards the one who had just earned his first scar. Something must have caught his attention with her doing such a thing in his defense because he grabbed her, pulled her close and planted a kiss on her lips. Stunned and shocked that she was handled in such a way, and that he took such a liberty, she didn't have much to say or do on the matter before her Father was told of what had transpired. She stood mutely, watching and waiting to see what her Father would do to Salem for his indiscretion. The only thing that needed to be said was that if he did such again, Salems lips would be stapled to his forehead. Amber shrugged off the kiss, figuring it was just lack of sanity on Salem's part, delirium from the fresh scars and cheek pinchings, until he started showing up wherever she was in camp. He apparently had been watching her for some time and had grown to become quite fond of her from a distance. Amber decided to give this a chance. She chose to try one more time at this relationship thing. Salem was used to taking what he wanted, a Man of the Cities he was not used to the rules and regulations put forth by the Ubar in the matters of Courtship and Companionship. Many a night was spent by him wanting to take her lips beneath his once more, and many a night she was reminding him of the rules. They spent most of their time together behind his wagon, staring at the sky and making small talk, getting to know one another better. She was up front with him, telling him that he would have to earn more scars before even attempting to ask her Father for the right to Court her. Though he by rights of the Tuchuk could take a Companion, she was the Ubar's Daughter after all, and there were certain things her Father demanded of any Man who may wish to Court and Companion his Daughter. Amber needed incredible patience to deal with her. She still had the subconscious doubts and fears about not being a good enough Woman, about being abandoned once more, about her not being worth the time and effort Salem would have to put forth in order to even enter Courtship with her. He took it all in stride, but he could not wait until the day he was given the Ubar's permission to Court her, and told her that on a constant basis. Around him, she felt like she was the perfect Woman, and though he complimented her as others had, she truly believed him. Life settled down for Amber quite a bit, and though Salem was gone for long periods of times, she knew he would come back to her, unlike the others. He had promised, and she trusted that promise. The long times of not seeing him made the time they spent together even more special because each moment was not to be wasted. A year passed and finally Salem asked Ragnar to court Amber. He was told that he would have to spend more time within Tuchuk, with his family instead of taking long trips outside of the plains. Salem agreed and worked for that goal. Although Amber was very happy that finally a goal had been set that seemed rather accomplishable to her eyes, there was tragedy on the horizon. Her Mother, the Ubara decided that she was no longer happy within the confines of her Companionship with Ragnar. Instead of approaching the situation with grace and Honor, Karanis decided to dishonor Ragnar and Tuchuk all in one go, making the biggest display she possibly could of her leaving, even going so far as to blatantly and openly kiss Raziel, one of the Ubars Trues and ASKARI. Of course, Raziel was not to blame for this indiscretion so the last ditch effort to cause strife amongst Tuchuk was for naught. Amber was devestated that her Mother, the Woman who she had looked up to for so long, would do such a thing. She also knew how upset her Father would be, and knowing that fact, she kept as much of her emotions under wraps that she could. She knew that if her Father knew that she was upset, that he would be even more upset with the situation. There was light on the horizon though, even as he was devestated that Karanis had left in such a shameful display, he began to become close to a Woman called Nexhias. Though Amber felt it entirely too soon for her Father she kept quiet, watching the two of them as they grew ever closer to one another. Just before the summer migration her Father asked Nexhias to court him, and she accepted. Soon after Migration began, and Amber was not allowed to ponder the feelings that she had about the relationship between her Father and Nexhias. During the Migration while stopping to rest, Salem asked her Father to Court her. This time, her Father accepted the bid and gave his permission. This couldn't have made Amber happier. Migration was not easy by any means, but at least it was easier than most, and at the end of it, Cassius had earned his Courage and Home scars, and also, Salem had earned his Home scar which Amber was given the Honor of giving to him, this time, with no pinching, and no abrupt kissing. |
