Lower & Mid Murraylands South Australia
Stables operating from J.G. Schulz's Dairy Shed c1911

L-R:  L. Phillips; Alf Schulz; Frank Thorton; Adalbert Nagel and Chummy Raymond.
Thorton's forehead was injured in an accident with a windlass near Hampton Well.
He was taken to the Kapunda Hospital in a spring cart. As can be seen in the photo he was lumping wheat in Swan Reach in 1911. It was reported that apart from a big dent across his forehead  he appeared well.

Chummy Raymond seen on the far right, fancied himself as a prize fighter, and reportedly enjoyed a bout in and out of the ring, with and without gloves.

Interestingly: It appears the photograph was posed for publicity. The gentlemen are all well supplied with William Appelt's - creaming soda; soda & lime; and konig lager which Appelt produced under license to the West End Brewery, at Appelt's factory, Railway Tce, Nuriootpa.
