This cave system located about 3 miles downstream from Swan Reach on the River Murray, has been carved into an ancient sea bed. The nearest coastline today is more than 80 miles away.

Some think this cave is part of a system which stretches its subterranean veins across the Murray Mallee to the township of Loxton.

A newspaper in the 1920s reported that heavy rain had fallen on a normally dry claypan east of Swan Reach. It created an inlake lake covering many acres.

Farmers on horse back were extremely startled by the tremendous sound of the earth swallowing this entire body of water in a few short minutes.
